I did (briefly) consider going the high road, but then I realized that someone who's that far gone is never going to be able to communicate sufficiently enough to make any money here, and frankly, (as evidenced by the post itself), "bored" is almost certainly a synonym for "lazy".

Yes, and possibly one for "I haven't got a clue what I'm doing."

Being an unbelievably good music critic who objectively ascertains the quality of songs based on the merit of the tune/melody only. I decided to take a look at the output of Taylor Swift on Youtube.

With the exception of one song: "You Belong To Me" which was quite good musically, I find the rest of what I heard to be formulaic C & W style structured pop songs. The tunes were slight and the hooks/choruses were unmemorable musically.

The songwriting reminds me of the sort of stuff that is relentlessly churned out by many modern day Country & Western stars. Generally, all done in a similar key and when listened too one after the other tends to blur into an overall similar sound, one song completely indistinguishable from the other.

If Taylor Swift had a part in writing "You Belong To Me" then I would put her in the category of a singer who can occasionally write a reasonable tune. She may get better at it?

It would also suggest that you may be into modern day Country & Western music with rock power ballad overtones.

Taylor wrote or co-wrote all of her songs. Songwriting partners include Liz Rose, Max Martin, Johan Shellback, Jack Antonoff, Ed Sheeran, ...

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catego...y_Taylor_Swift

        My favorites are:
        Tim McGraw
        Everything has Changed
        Safe and Sound
        Back to December
The Best Day (She was young and it's about her family)
        All Too Well
        Begin Again

Now, it's not that I think she is the most talented. I admire that she constantly improves,
can do a huge stage production, connect with the audience (All Too Well - live),
and the variety of her work. And the way she is off stage with her fans and character
        and integrity for a celeb.

I copied and pasted them into you tube and listened to most of each. I largely maintain my position. They have similar structures, tones and keys used. The Best Day, one of the older ones was the better of the bunch. she largely suffers from sameness in her writing.

While being functional/pretty and good for that sort of style, I don't see anything memorable and lasting it terms of great songwriting/tunes/melodys

I can see it's appeal to people who listen to that sort of stuff though and she's not just a plastic pop star of the moment, she is an artiste.

That would've involved some capitalization and at least a few punctuation marks, quite a step up from what he posted. But yeah, I was also afraid that it'd go in that direction, as well.

I've never listened to her, but it's a good bet her audience doesn't know the difference.

Musically, they are similar to the OP's example.

Too funny. I think they call that style "Bro Country". Although I am a country fan, I had to turn the radio off when the one station my car radio gets played a lot of that in a row. Some were the same songs in the video. Can't stand Luke Bryan's newest release.

Country, country-rock, Southern Rock, soft-rock, and folk are my favorite genres (to answer Ian, whom I'm punishing by calling Ian, not Mark). All time favorite performers: Marshall Tucker and Nanci Griffith (Swift's "Tim
McGraw" reminds me of Nanci's writing.)

Sorry this thread got a little sidetracked.

I think it has been topped.
But - on the plus side the "me me me" novella has finally been closed. 200+ posts and the OP made 90+ of them.

I have never seen a thread where the OP continues to post 3/4/5/6 times in a ROW - left open as long as that one was. In fact, it seems they closed it only when the OP said "I'm done". I will says threads like that make it easy to see who knows something - and who doesn't have a clue. Lot of clueless in that thread.

Then there were the old meanies - cali and Frank and me....

Yes - there are threads deleted that you've missed from this person. Same questions over and over - claims of having loads of money to spend and basically it's someone just playing around.

We've always had members doing that but not in the numbers we're seeing now. It does hurt because new members with real questions end up getting bad answers because other newbies seem to think it's all a game. Maybe at this point it is... The level of "substance" is declining rapidly and it's sad to see it. Consider the "all about me" GaiaGoddess thread that just keeping going in circles - getting bumped by the OP whenever it slows.

It's been literally YEARS since we've seen numbers as low as this:

Currently Active Users: 7798 (946 members and 6852 guests)

A long time member (was it Ron?) had posted recently about threads increasing in quality - and it did seem to be happening but it didn't last.

Lee - I just ran into another example upstairs. A thread started by someone who never posted again and didn't come back to the WF - thread dated April and is still being bumped....by affiliate links in posts - by copy/pasted "advice".

The copy/paste model has been rampant here recently. Paid posters are a problem, too, and a hard one to identify sometimes.

What's even more puzzling are the people who actually try and provide serious answers to these type of threads... I mean it's obvious that the average IQ of this place has taken a nose dive recently but it seems there is no end to the drivel...

For all the time wasted on people that will never do anything, sometimes there is a glimmer of hope and someone actually starts changing or they actually start doing what they need to be doing.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and help when and where I can but know that a lot of the effort is wasted. And I don't do it to get my sig seen either. I really want to help where I can.

If people with experience don't try and help then who is left to help? Talk about the downward spiral when the the only people left talking are the ones we complain about.

If we ignore all the pleas for help - even by those without even a snowball's chance of succeeding - then what do we discuss since there are more pleas for help than real discussions among people with similar experience lately?

There's also the argument that one might (or even can) help people other than the original poster. Don't forget that most people never do more than read a thread, and that also there's about eight or nine times more unregistered visitors than there are members who actually have an account here.

It's not just awful; the post took it to an extreme. Either this was a troll that wrote that poorly intentionally, or, (more likely), it was someone who just could not be bothered to show the least amount of incentive in life. He's "bored", he wants to be paid to play games, (as long as they're free), he states that his own production is "random", and frankly, can't be bothered to even try to punctuate, capitalize, or take any effort to construct his thoughts into some sort of cohesion so as to communicate clearly with others.

I've outsourced for two decades. I've dealt with plenty of people for whom English is not their native language. Most people from such a background at least try to show some effort, especially when they intend to earn money. In fact, if you show some patience, folks from third-world nations can often communicate better than some native-born Americans who seem to take English for granted. The educational system here, ("No Child Left Behind", and now this "Core Curriculum" nonsense), is an absolute joke; the only thing that's stressed in school is how to pass tests, and even those can apparently be faked easily. If the teachers don't care, certainly the children aren't going to care, and this post was a prime example of this extreme apathy.

A huge section of the American population just doesn't seem to care, isn't interested in working, lives on public assistance of one form or another, perpetuates additional (and subsequently larger) generations with the same attitudes, and it's all incredibly frustrating.

Because he lacks poor educational skills, doesn't seem right to publicly humiliate him twice. Seems like a lot of effort to get some kicks, not sure who is worse, the guy who is not educated or the guy laughing at it, just my 2 cents.

I don't have "showcase" English skills (unless it's in an example showcase of native speakers that can't write worth a darn) and so I'm slow to say much of anything about other people's skills.

However, this guy has been told several times by several people, including me, that those kinds of posts just ain't right. And he doesn't seem to care. So I quit trying to help him. He's beyond help and in my humble opinion, anything he writes is just a waste of time and bandwidth.

Now, if he would be willing to act halfway decent about things he might have a chance. Until then - waste of time.

I couldn't do it anymore past page one. My hat is off to you both for staying in and being the voice of reason for as long as you did, even though it was destined to be a futile effort.

I look at a thread like that and weep for the poor pixels being wasted on such cluelessness and mediocrity.

Do you ever have a moment when you realize....

'if I met this person in 'real life' I'd have nothing to do with them'? That's when I exited that thread. I've met people like that and I distance myself far and fast....because listening to them makes my mind glaze over.

Not saying I'm "better than" - just that I have low tolerance for the drama.

If someone I meet starts off needy or drama, drama, that almost always is how they are.
And, the two seem to go hand in hand.

Although, I do have a re-hired employee who was needy and a drama queen and got word
that I would not rehire her. Since then, she did 30 days in jail for her DUI, and stopped drinking
because of that - and more so the fact that her Dad might need one of her kidneys. I did not know
before that she has schizophrenia, hence the reason she was mixing drugs with alcohol and was a
load to deal with. She is now actually a stellar employee and the meds for the schizo seem to
be working well. I see now how she is smart enough for graduate school, how her life went
downhill over the past 6 to 8 years, and that she might make it back up to normal.
