This was a shock to me because he was only 60 and was recently at the Hall of Fame inductions. What a great player he was. Three time MVP and all time leading offensive rebounder.

And his backup in Philly Darryl Dawkins just passed a week or two ago. DD was one of the all time great characters in any sport and by all reports a really nice guy.

I saw Moses Malone play in one of his first pro games ever. It was a preseason game when he was with the Utah Stars of the ABA. I actually went to see David Thompson, it was his rookie year too, along with Marvin Webster. Webster actually "caught" a shot by Moses. Moses wasn't that impressive that year, as he was right out of high school in a time most of the other players spent 4 years in college, so he was a lot younger than the other players.

Even though he earned a lot of awards, IMO he's still one of the most underrated players in NBA history. He was relentless on the boards.

PS...How about the 3 centers on that 6er team? Malone, Dawkins and Caldwell Jones?

Great depth on that team. That sixers team was one of the all time great teams.

A fan had her picture taken with Moses the day before he died and posted it twitter today:

Saw Moses and Calvin Murphy play against my Hawks and John Drew in 1980 at The Omni in Atlanta.

He was right up there with Hayes and Jabbar. Just a dominate player

Yep, Moses was a huge problem for opposing teams and Moses was the final piece that helped Doc get his only NBA ring when they swept my Lakers. He was a monster on the boards. May he rest in peace.

And may the funk be with Dr. Dunkenstien.

Note: Both came straight out of high school.
