This has to be a joke in poor taste . . . doesn't it?

Bay City Rollers announce reunion

  • Profile picture of the author Jason Kanigan
Obviously this 'reunion' is in effort to stimulate some evolution in our understanding of What Saturday, and in particular what Saturday Night, Is All About.

    Look at the evidence.

Chicago began the inquiry in 1972 with an advisement of a particular location and even a specific date Saturday ought to best be experienced.

In 1973 Elton John deepened the analysis, explaining how the night was acceptable for violence. Considering the source, this was dramatic testimony indeed.

Tom Waits weighed in not long thereafter with an investigatory check-in on the heart of Saturday Night. His drunk and stoned impression of the period contrasts strongly with the upbeat narrative to come.

Two years following, after deliberation and contemplative discussion, the Bay City Rollers deconstructed the occasion by chanting the day's letters to spell out the name. They also added the impression that Saturday Night might be fun under certain circumstances. But then they went on to brush off the seriousness of the event, implying the listener should participate but remain cool.

Since that time weaker artists have attempted to add to the analysis, such as Rebecca Black's abortive missive following her success in encapsulating the end-of-workweek feeling Friday exudes. None, however--not even The Jam's glance into the multicultural world of poverty and the unwanted children resulting from Saturday Night encounters in that avoidance-prone environment--have impacted or improved upon our current knowledge.

Clearly it's time to reopen this book and discover a new chapter about Saturday Night.

So put that vomit back into your stomach and get dancing.

I like the Shawn Colvin cover of Tom Waits Heart of Saturday Night, a great song!

I was also a big Elton John fan when I was younger. The Bay City Rollers means nothing to me.

Can you still be a boy band if you are in your sixties?

Yes, l didn't mind Elton John, but recently with all of this Sir, Elton crap, and $400 dollars for a $12 student hair cut, he has lost the plot!

      Bay City Rollers.....

I remember reading that the band are still owed millions of dollars in royalty payments from their old Record Company. This move is clearly a ploy to extort that money from music lovers all over the world. Pay up or we'll get back together.

          They're bound to clean up.
