Ok, Windows 10 Related Problems Have Begun

Both my HP 8.1 (laptop) upgraded to 10 and my Dell 8.1(Desktop) Upgraded to 10. Both machines under a year old. The problems are more consistent on the laptop, the PC seems to fix itself and then they return. PC, wired to the NET and the laptop is wireless.

As follows:

Windows cannot connect to Group Client Policies

No automatic Windows updates for several weeks now?

Realtime Virus scanning (Mcafee) does not initiliase on login, a message appears. This comes and goes on the PC but consistant on the laptop

Google Chrome does not load up on both machines or a long delay before it comes up.

Cortana constantly losing contact with the cloud so effectively not performing.

Anyone else seeing these problems? All was ok for about 2 months before they started to emerge?

I get an impression that the connection to the net (essential to these) has somehow changed in it's initialization or somehow lost the ability to let some programs recognize it is available. No problem with surfing or streaming, email etc.

No, l have messed around with it on a public computer, and the weird way it finds a USB stick is putting me off.

I mean Start, then Documents, the Word file, etc, groan, if l buy a new Laptop, l will install W7.

W7 does have freezeup issues when the tab windows are transparent, (at least when l am using Photoshop) but apart from that not too many issues overall.

With ME, the browser enabled wifi BROKE for a couple weeks, but they apparently fixed that late last week, or there abouts. Cortana doesn't work well for me, and I don't use group policies. I WILL tell you one thing though, I have a VPN that DEMANDS IE, so I hope nothing happens because, apparently, they don't allow you to fix it yourself, like you could with the other OS'.

Interesting what you said about the broken browser wifi. So should a windows update have fixed that? Not had any updates for a few weeks?

I'm still using Windows 7. Glad you posted this, Mark, as I've been thinking about upgrading to 10. Think I'll hold off for now.

I installed 10 and after half an hour of it, I switched back to 7. I'll stay with it until MS no longer does updates, and then get a brand new box with 10 on it. For the time being though, it ain't broke, so there's no point in fixing it.

Heh, maybe you just aren't noticing or trying to use what it can't or doesn't do?

I'm not going to use it, I have no real tech skills and I've seen too many complaints about it already.

From within settings you can re-install it I have read. Going to try that. Then, if the updates start again they may well have fixed the teething problems.

Given MS's history of problems with GREAT NEW WINDOWS [fill in the year], I did not take advantage of the free upgrade that came with my new laptop.

Maybe in a couple of years, when they have their next unbelievably fantastic new upgrade, I'll switch to 10. Until then, no way.

I feel very bad for all of you who were upgraded automatically. If you can downgrade back to 8 or 8.1, then grab the opportunity and don't look back or your computer will turn to salt.

I am sticking to Win 7 for now, at least.
My dad has upgraded his pc and laptop to 10 and has had problems.

@Shane, saying your usb stick has a weird way of finding 10. Do you have issues with your own laptop/desktop?

My dad had an issue that if he had to reboot either device, it would try to reboot from his external drive which he keeps plugged in all the time.
He has it fixed now though, with help from MS.

      No, no issues with mine.

I plug it in and it displays the content tab, (well, acknowledges the device if new then does the rest).

Windows 10, acknowledges the device, then l need to click on the MS Word square thing, then documents, then Cruzer, blah, blah memory stick, and it finally displays what is there!

So, W10, has a lot of hoops to jump through, compared with W7.

Update: Well I finally got one on my PC. This may have fixed things, time will tell.

What I noticed was although the PC was hard wired to the net via Lan, when I powered it up to the splash screen (picture, time and date), sometimes I see that the lower right computer screen symbol has a circle by it or on it. If you click on it you will see the computer is not connected to the internet yet. This would cause a problem when you login as the net picks up a little later .

In that I mean that the realtime virus scanning, Cortana and Chrome, group client etc was not immediately connecting and causing error reporting and lack of functionality.

So power up, if you see the computer screen symbol has that circle, click to the password screen and then click the power button and Restart.

Bingo, it installed the updates, even restarted a second time. Hopefully the thing I noticed was fixed in the update, we shall see!
