Tiny Homes Move From City to City

Here's an interesting idea...It's a service that offers tiny homes and it will move them from city to city. They claim they cost less than half the price of a studio apt.

Tiny smart homes move from city to city - Business Insider

I'd love something like this...except the homes are just a little too small for me. And it would be even cooler if you could put them on train cars and/or tow them yourself.

That would be an awesome franchise business. Like Uhaul only move the whole house/apt.

    Basically, inner-city trailer parks.

    I like it.

That is a great idea ... not for me though. I don't want to live in a cube inside another big building with a bunch of other people living in cubes inside the building. I love the tiny homes, but in a nice rural setting.

You can tow some of them yourself. Google tiny homes on wheels.

And here's some really tiny homes on wheels.

That's the way I feel too. No city - no apartment. Lots of land - few neighbors. As far as tiny homes on that land. Works just fine for me.

My OP wasn't about tiny houses really. We've already had a number of threads about tiny homes. It was more about a cool new idea that makes it easy and efficient for people to change locations.

Too many people wanting "space" is why nature is being infringed upon so badly. IMO, people should all be crammed into as little space as possible and let nature have as much space as possible.

I realize your post was to show the new idea - and I appreciate that and think it's a kewl idea. But..................

Sorry - I've lived in apartments, and in cities, and I won't do it again. Most people don't mind living like sardines - let them have at it. I didn't contribute to over-population - opted out of having kids so I don't feel any responsibility to have to change my lifestyle because of the clueless and selfish who want to squirt out litters of kids. My health is better in the country, so I will stay there. However - I might just get a tiny home to stay there. I wouldn't mind living in a small settlement of tiny home off the griders. At all.

Then don't complain about over population or deforestation. How many trees were cut to build the roads that lead to those country homes or cleared off the land?

Your post is typical of those people that are unwilling to make a sacrifice because they don't want to. It's always someone else that should sacrifice. Just be thankful every other person on this planet doesn't feel like you do because if they did there wouldn't be any "country" left for you to live in.

BTW, I don't have kids either, nor do I plan on trying to live for 100 years. It's always someone else's fault, isn't it?

You have a right to live where you want and I have a right to point out your selfishness.

The storage ideas and solutions those builders come up with on the tiny house TV shows are plans you could use in many smaller homes. The important thing to me about the "tiny house movement" is it leads people to rethink the space they use. They simplify off the grid living, too.

because of the clueless and selfish who want to squirt out litters of kids
That is disgusting. You don't have children - so those who do are clueless and selfish? You might want to think before you spew.

typical of those people that are unwilling to make a sacrifice because they don't want to
That's sort of spewing, too, for me. I'll make a sacrifice of time or money to help a person or a cause I believe in. I don't owe a sacrifice to anyone just because they have less than I do - or want what I have. I live in a large house with no apologies - but I will be volunteering for several hours today.

I make no apologies for living in my space in the country. Wildlife live around me without harm and a few species live inside with me, like spiders and at this time of year, a few stink bugs.

I also make no apologies for having children, or as a childless woman says ... squirting out babies, like she would know what delivering a child is all about ... I can tell you now ... it ain't squirting.

I, nor any other human, was imported to earth as an invasive species. We're as much a part of this planet as any other species, like it or not. Anyone think that humans don't have the right to be here should just commit suicide and help the planet out by doing their part.

I'll stick around in my country, 3 bedroom, modestly sized home and enjoy my children and grandchildren and animals. Thank you very much.

I've noticed more stink bugs around this fall then usual, outside mostly though a few inside.
To go further off topic I found a Pheasant strutting around my yard the other day. First one I've seen in the yard in close to 30 years.
The tiny houses are cool but not my thing, yet. I could see me in one someday but more likely my tiny house will be the coffin they put me in the ground in
I do agree with Kurt's idea of cramming more people into cities though. Makes for more room in the country for us country folk.

Our house is paid for and has been for a long time, so we don't have any plans on making any moves for our old age (and that's my brother and I and father who live here). If I weren't settled in to a nice country home with no mortgage, I would seriously consider upgrading my truck to a heavy duty truck and buying a tiny house on wheels. I do really like some of them a lot and as long as there's room for two dogs and a cat and myself, I could easily live in one. I wouldn't, however, consider one of those portable boxes that the OP is about.

... and you're right about those blasted stink bugs. They're trying their best to infiltrate the house before cold weather sets in, and there's a million of them.

Even though my house has been in the family for 85 years I had to take out a small mortgage in 02 when my wife and mother died leaving me around 40,000 in debit. Only got 2 years left on the mortgage. I have been entertaining a couple ideas. Both involve selling the house. One is to sell everything else I own, buy a new Indian and see (more of) the country. The other is to buy a house down south, in the country of course, ride my motorcycle, play my drums and chill.
What will likely happen is I'll stay where I am, keep adding more drums to my collection and give the house to my youngest.
Between my drums, cats, and houseplants I'd have to sleep on the roof of one of those tiny houses

Yeah ... I'm not even sure if two dogs (one being a very large coon hound and the other small one) would fit in a tiny house with me and my stuff. I don't own a lot of stuff, but I'd like to keep what I do have. I already downsized the "stuff" when I moved into this house because this one was already furnished.

I'll complain about over-population all I want. I didn't reproduce. Go tell it to some human xerox machine, not me. As far as deforestation - we didn't need to do a lot of it even with our huge numbers. We allowed hemp to be illegalized when we could have been using it for all sorts of construction -- and for paper for the last 100 or more years. Could have saved a LOT of the ecosystems - but have allowed a few greedy people to completely destroy everything to be wealthy.

Yes we all need to do our share. I'm probably doing a lot more than most - and I'm aware enough to keep my footprint more minimal than some even know how to.

Whereas those would be a great idea if they were arranged side by side, stacking them on top of each other is going to create any number of problems.

What happens if the guy/gal on the ground level wants to move? Are they going to take all the other levels off to facilitate this move. All the residents above will need to evacuate their homes before that can take place. And so on.

The only way that's going to work in the real world is if the homes are permanet and not movable from one location to another.

They're not actually "stacked". According to the video, they fit into a larger structure that's already in place.

    Earth's big, she's a mother.

So, gotta figure in the future we gonna know better than hittin' on streams an' hills for where to pitch up our fort.

Our teched-up X's gonna mark the no-go volcanic hotspots & such.

Gonna drop home wherever we wanna fly all our stuff.

Dunno what happens to cities and landmarks in this new deal, guess it kinda depends on who's around, but unless we wanna watch shit get ****ed on by sumthin' way more ballsier and growsier and frickin' cosmos-spawned than anything we can stick in the ground right now, mebbe boxes Hogwarts-staircaisin' pan-planet gonna be an option.

Live wherever ya want, switch an' change an' flash about the planet, cruise the joint in your own personal space.

Drop down into nowhere an' everywhere town.

    Find no place, anyplace.
