Southwest Airlines had a plane return to the gate and asked this woman get off... thankfully.

Peggy Uhle was on a flight from Chicago to Columbus in her seat with the plane still in the runway when the plane turned back to the gate and she was asked to get off.
After she got off the plane customer service told her that her son, who lives in Denver, was in a coma after suffering a head injury. Even before Uhle had disembarked, the airline rebooked on the next non-stop flight to Denver-free of charge.
A good, story.

This Airline Just Kicked This Woman Off the Plane for the Best Reason

I've always loved SouthWest. I remember being on a flight a few years ago from Burbank (CA) to San Jose, just a few days before Christmas. The cabin crew had all the passengers singing Christmas carols throughout the flight

Back when I still flew SouthWest was always my choice.
Coming up to NY from Orlando one year I had timed the flight to get me home in time for Monday night football. We ended up getting delayed because an idiot light was out in the cockpit. The pilot explained what was going on and said even though the light wasn't important he wouldn't risk our lives (and his) with a plane that wasn't in perfect working order. When getting off that plane I commented about how I'd miss watching the game. When we finally boarded the new plane (at 9pm) the co-pilot had myself and my daughter sit in the first two seats and told me he'd have the game on the radio and keep me updated. When we got close to Albany the stewardess had us look out the window pointing out the Northern Light display.
By the way the co-pilot did keep me updated on the game

not that I want to be seen as the cold hearted bastage, but.....

The airline really had to take her off the plane. Yes, it's great customer service...but to ignore the message would be very bad business. And this story (free ticket) is far more valuable than the actual cost of providing a ticket.

So...kind and thoughtful? Absolutely. A great public relations story the will bring in business? Absolutely. .

Well, the sun is coming up, so I'll get back in my coffin now.

Your always having problems with Coffin Fit's, they should make them wider.

So is Count Whitacre right or is this airline always that accommodating?

My guess is that every airline would be that accommodating. Doing less would be a stupid blunder. And that's assuming nobody is thinking about the mother's pain.

Of course, everyone knowing about this would feel for the mom. But providing a free ticket (and helping her to the flight) would be the most natural response, I would think.

                Can you imagine doing less?

I hope it's just a matter of doing the right thing without thinking about the consequences. Regardless of the airline.
