Why is the same post title normal, then bold, then normal again, etc?

It's bold when you haven't read it yet, then normal after you've clicked on it, then bold again when there are new posts in the thread since the last time you clicked.

it's bold if you have not read it, and normal when you've read it and bold again when someone adds a comment to the post
