But a new rifle unveiled earlier this week is a game changer for individuals and organizations looking to protect their privacy and safety by warding off snooping drones, and it doesn't even fire a single bullet.

  • Thing I never figured about Jurassic Park is how they reconstitute the dinosaurs an' expect nature to take its course on the whole repopulation deal.

"Welcome back to life on the planet after a zillion year sojourn in stasis, reptilian wunderbeests. Now go get fresh and lay us some dollar-generatin' eggs."

Yeah, before we see any kinda millennia-delayed stegosaur on stegosaur action, gotta break out the SWAT guy packin' the twin smacka vibro.

The nondestructive tech "utilizes a non-kinetic solution to defend airspace up to 400m against UAS, such as quadcopters and hexacopters, without compromising safety or risking collateral damage."

You can bet your last dime that device would get you thrown in a jail or a federal prison.

They advertise a range of 400 meters (1,312 ft) while the max. legal flying height of a US civilian drone is only 400 feet. In other words, they're messing with regular aircraft in the area that has sensitive navigation equipment.

    Good luck with that.

I imagine that law enforcement and the gov will be allowed to own them, but not civilians, who need protection from the invasive drones as well.

Looks like a rangefinder with a directional antenna, probably picks up a good signal for local TV.

The company that developed it is a govt think tank that is non profit and has private employees who are some of the top minds around. The company invents things - and then sells off the patents to manufacturers who sell the products (and the govt gets some good stuff, too).

I didn't know the company but my son has been there frequently in his work and said he enjoys the lobby because walls are filled with photos and samples of various products developed by Battelle. His own favorite was TANG - the drink developed for astronauts but sold in huge quantities to the public, too. He loved that stuff when he was a kid.

If this affects drones but not aircraft - larger versions of this anti-drone product might be permanent installations around airports in the future...

Thanks, Joe, learned a lot from reading this post and looking into it.

In the Chinese space program, Tang was the astronaut.

In Las Vegas it's legal to buy Tang.

Yes - but we are playing russian roulette at our airports. Too many drones coming too close to passenger planes. Sightings and warnings, etc - but one will take down a plane eventually and there will be hell to pay then.
