RE: link above, Some people want everything to be defined in black and white terms. It's like defining White people as albinos. What I'm finding that is actually overlap between so-called "psychopathic traits" and leadership qualities LOL.

The closet psycho is the person manipulating others while they have no clue what is going on. The synonym is "leader" (often behind the scenes like the Koch Bros and the Wizard of Oz).

I was thinkin' more of someone at the mercy of others with every clue what's goin' on.

Guess i was figurin' on a bigger closet an' a sharper psycho.

Hey, mebbe that's what the psycho leaders are here in tne article -- sharper than yr regular psychos, moderatin' the killer instinct, bein' supremely selfish.

One huge phenomenon I see when talking about "Psychopaths as Leaders" is only seeing the one beneficial effect, and ignoring all the negatives that come along with it.

For example, the executive fires people, almost gleefully. Later one worker says, "Yeah, he looks like he enjoys it, but I know deep down it bothers him. He's just covering up a big heart". Well, that's attributing normal characteristics to a not normal person.

You may say that a psychotic firefighter is brave and courageous because he went into the fire to save a child. But the reality is, he simply doesn't process fear the same way "Normals" do. He was really dispassionate about the entire evening.

He're is a good example from a pet store. I saw a woman with a large iguana sitting on her arm, digging in its claws. The woman said, "Sure, it hurts a little, but he's hugging me. He loves me. He knows I care about him. He feels my love".

But the truth? The iguana is cold blooded. The arm is warm. Everything else, she made up to make the lizard more like a person.

And so it is with Psychopaths. We attribute qualities to them, to help soften the idea that they are cold blooded. Now, cold blooded doesn't necessarily mean evil...but they are cold blooded. And you cannot make a cold blooded creature into a warm blooded creature, just by imagining it to be so.

I think that is key. Not all psychopaths are evil. They're different from most people, yes. Your analogy strikes me as accurate.

I guess there is speculation about causes. In some it seems to be genetic, in others such as a serial killer in Russia (the Chess killer), it seemed to be from a childhood accident that caused brain damage. In others, maybe extreme psychological abuse?

They do say it is a spectrum, so that means it comes in degrees, I guess.

Releasing inner psychopath seems ridiculous for self-help book, but I haven't read the book. Hey Ayn Rand did well in glorifying psychopathic traits.

I may buy the book out of habit, but you can't become psychopathic, by deciding.

Psychopaths are either the result of brain damage, injury, or lack of development in certain areas of the brain.

Experience helps rewire the software in the brain. It can also be genetic, I suppose...but it's usually caused by sections of the brain not functioning properly.

Sociopaths are made from abuse and neglect. They are usually the more inherently violent. Of course, it can be both.

But, it's like an iceberg......if you see positive traits from a psychopath. It's because you are missing the 95% below the surface that would make your toes curl.
