Dean of a Texas University gets stopped walking in her own Neighborhood

The Cops were doing the right thing..to stop a pedestrian walking on the wrong side of the street and also impeding traffic as she strayed out in the middle of the road.

But where they kind of lost me is asking for her ID and Name and DOB. Do not understand why that was necessary?

She is claiming racial profiling. Personally, I have been stopped for something similar to this event and did not have to provide anything of the sorts like she did.

Makes you wonder ?

NOTE: Iam excited and very proud recently of my fellow OT members who seem to be maturing enough to have critical and civil discussions related to things of this nature without getting them shutdown. Its very promising as is evident by the Classroom/Police Thread.

Keep it up guys and lets continue to have these very interesting and revealing discussions
We all may learn a thing or two

But there is one problem for Bland's recollection -- dashcam footage, which tells a different story. In her op-ed, Bland describes "flashing lights and sirens" rousing a quiet morning in a golf-course community. But there was no siren, and the video proves it, as Bland doesn't even notice she is being followed for nearly 40 seconds. In Bland's account, there is no mention of the first words uttered by the police officers, who politely informed her that a truck had almost hit her because she was impeding traffic by walking on the wrong side of the street. (She was under a hoodie and listening to music on her phone.) The footage also revealed that she becomes agitated after she is asked for identification.
What do we want to discuss...

How overly dramatic she made her story? How much she exaggerated the encounter and turned herself into a victim?

I know there is profiling and it's wrong - but it's equally wrong for people to lie and exaggerate trying to create stories that don't exist.

Im not so sure she lied per say. I think she did see it like she said.. It may or may not be accurate but I think she really felt like she was being harassed or profiled.

I think those were sincere beliefs and feelings she felt, even though it could have been exaggerated

Sorry, not buying it. I think she's petty and needlessly confrontational and wanted to make this "a black thing." I don't really think anyone cares about the photos she took of the polite (from what I could see) officers. It really makes a joke out of the term harassment.

Yeah, I agree. It was all normal enough and everyone was polite and agreeable until they requested her identification.

I don't ever get stopped by police myself, even when a crazy woman got the notion that I was kidnapping a child --- my mixed-race son -- and alerted security LOL.
