Wow. Good read of the situation. Lucky that he totally called the guys bluff about the weapon,
or using it if he had one.

    Well, no powers.
But a hero? Absolutely. He may have saved her life.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

I mentioned in another thread about when playing poker intentional tells are "lies" or "bluffs" and unintentional tells are the truth, and that this concept can be applied to real life too.

This situation is a good example. The only reason someone in this situation would act as if he had a gun in his pocket is if he really didn't have a gun in his pocket. If he really had a gun, he would have pulled it out to intimidate the clerk (or worse), not act like he had a gun in his pocket.

Acting as if you have a gun in this situation without showing it, is an intentional tell, something that's being done on purpose, therefore it's a lie/bluff.

Of course nothing is 100% certain, and in poker you also have to factor in risk vs gain and in this example, the risk is death. But death is also an option if you do nothing. In a similar situation, I'd "bet" a person acting as if they had a gun but aren't showing it is bluffing. There's not a lot of good reasons not to show a gun in this situation, unless you don't really have one.

        Insightful, and almost certainly true.

I just threw up a little.

Acknowledging that Kurt said something insightful, churns my stomach.

Acknowledging that you said something insightful, just gives me a mild headache.

So, now I have an upset stomach, and a headache.

            I hope you are happy.

He knows violence, and he knows how to read people, and he knew the coward would fear the bluff.

It's interesting to think whatever he lived through that made him the person he is,
for him to be there in that moment to save a doctor.

You mean I give you indigestion? I always thought it was your diet of fried chicken, donuts and diet Mountain Dew that caused it. You don't know how happy it makes me to know that it's my constant posting of insightful advice that gives you your perpetual indigestion.

I was talking to an attractive lady customer, and she looked down and smiled, saying "Is that a potato in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?"

I felt really embarrassed, and had to admit, "It's a potato"

That pun is so bad I thanked you for it. At least you didn't call him Spud Nick or Mr. Potato Head.

Tell the truth. What she actually said was "Is that mashed potatoes in your pocket, or have you just had an accident?".

And the perp's defense is going to be he was under the influence of a potato.

I still think the store clerk has Spidey senses - LOL - and should start working for the FBI. (Semi LOL).

  • You frickin' potato kidnappers oughta be ashamed of yourselves.

Tellya, if you come anywhere near my store, gonna whip out my imaginary firearms an' interpose myself between you an' your zipper.

Carrot guys better watch out also.

Swede, broccoli, cauliflower — yeah, you're all dead meat.

Sweetcorn — K, so mebbe I'm prepared to negotiate.

Superman got his Kryptonite, an' I am a sucker for the corno.

Only thing bugs me with that baby is how it gets stuck in your teeth, even if you soften it up with plenty of butter.

I guess it's just the skin on the lumpy parts bein' less amenable to saliva an' chompin' than what's deep inside.

Way I see it, potatoes got skin too, but you can peel it all away real easy unless you want 'em in their jackets.

Hey — mebbe I've jus' figured what to eat later.

A simple vegetable concoction, high on essential vitamins, low on irritatin' maintenance, ready in a microwave flash, served on a bed of sumthin' exotic like mebbe sh*tloads of bacon.

    Yum.
