I'm not American, but I might get a burger to celebrate.

    Sausage stuffing
    Mashed potatoes
    Green bean casserole

    Cranberry sauce
    Pumpkin pies with whipped cream
    Apple pies

Jill ... glazed carrots sound interesting. What's your recipe? I found two different ones via Google.

      My sister is making them.

      Steam baby fresh carrots.
Put them in a casserole dish with OJ, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter - to taste.

Bake for 10-15 minutes to caramelize. If oven space is an issue, can be done on stove top.

She is in Florida so the oranges are used in a lot of things.

We're having rib eyes BBQ'ed over hickory coals.
Homemade pan fried crispy french fries and for myself a good stout.

We eat chicken, turkey and fish most of the time all year long. So, for us this is different.

Normally the menu would look like this:

The turkey. I use my own blend of herbs for a rub. I put half of the stuffing in the turkey. I always cook the turkey breast side down until I'm ready to brown the top.

Roasted mashed potatoes. I use just a little bit of mayo and sour cream to blend the potatoes. When roasting them, I add the butter to the top!

    Wild rice and mushroom stuffing.
Green beans cooked in lemon pepper, sauteed onions and bacon.
    Dinner rolls
Cranberry apple sauce. It's made with white wine!
    Brandied pumpkin pie
    Harvest pie
Candied ginger whip cream for the pies

    All is homemade.

This year, because of our big storm that still has so many without power, we are spending it catching up on debris removal. Our dinner will be something with hamburger.

I know this sounds sad, but it's not. So many were affected by this storm almost 200K, just on this side, and no one was seriously hurt! We had zero damage here, other than debris... so

    I'm Thankful! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

You too! Sorry about the hassles.

Is harvest pie like a mincemeat?

        Hi Jill!

Harvest pie is cranberries, pears and apples. Something I used to make in our restaurant years ago. Believe it or not, my biggest seller (pies) during the holidays, was a lemon chiffon pie. I make a butter crust for that, you have to press it in the pan, not roll it out.

Thank you for the wishes! We actually got our power back before some that are in town! That NEVER happens! When you live in rural areas, you're usually last.

        Have a super day!

Hmm, B-I-L was supposed to bring turkey, but forgot to thaw it out in time to cook! So we did not get turkey this year.

Lots of goodies, but could not stand to look at them Friday after we all ended up stuffed, so we went out to dinner.

Our no turkey for you Thanksgiving this year had -

      Roast pork loin
      Sauerkraut
      Stuffing
      Gravy
      Baked sweet potatoes
      Mashed white potatoes
Green bean casserole w/french fried onions
      Glazed carrots
      Salad
      Italian bread and butter
Beer, wine, coffee and soft drinks
      Lemon cake
      Cherry pie
      Pumpkin pie
      Pecan pie
Munchies and cheese, etc. for when relatives arrived, but no turkey and I don't think anyone felt deprived. Only one person in my family is a big turkey fan, and we'll get that maybe for Christmas dinner.

We gave relatives big batch of leftovers to take home and we'll have our leftovers starting tomorrow.

I like to make roasted leg of lamb, but the price at local farms has gone through the roof for the amount I'd have to make to feed us and a bunch of relatives, so that was out this year.

Time to start planning Christmas/New Year's dinners.
