News today that Lionel Messi's agents have had initial discussions about a deal with Uk football club Manchester City that would see the 28-year-old Barcelona and Argentina forward join on a weekly wage of £800,000.

Over $60 million a year seems an incredible amount of money for kicking a ball about. But even that figure is dwarfed by the $300 million earned by Floyd Mayweather in 2015

Worlds 100 highest paid athletes 2015

There's no doubt though that Messi is one of the best footballers on the planet, and he puts it all down to his mate from a little sweeper store in Ohio . . .

There's a whole lot of money floating around sports these days which is also entertainment. Market forces - like TV contracts now dictate that the superstars will get paid and I can't begrudge them for that. I say more power to them even if it is to kick a ball around.

And then there's the money they also make from endorsements - wow!

There is Nothing unfair about this !
The Marketplace determines the salary. It is a matter of Supply and Demand...

i.e There are only a few athletes talented enough in the World who can play to this high level . And the Demand to watch talent like this is in the Millions.

      You do the math

Some crazy salaries involved in football and other sports. Yes sometimes I do get jealous but I suppose any of us could have ended up professional footballers if we where super dedicated as children.

This is a great article about sportsmen giving back to charity.

  • Why do footballers have such stoopid mouths?

This guy would look so much better if he jus' flashed his teeth an' smiled normal.

Right now he looks like he jus' walked out of a dental surgery after havin' alla his teeth taken out.
