Storing All The Worlds Information In DNA

Watch the video at the top of the page after the obligatory ad.

BBC - Future - This is how to store human knowledge for eternity

It has been discovered that you can store all the worlds information and history encoded in a small amount of test-tubes of DNA and retrieve it, But, you have to fossilize the DNA in glass to keep it long term.

Hard drives, disks, cd's are of course painfully finite. Not a long term solution.

Fascinating stuff.

Yes, but l would stay with atomic scale, crystal embedding.

    Well, when they invent it?

Not crazy about some descendants finding a small room of crystallized, snot!

Probably need a diamond sign saying, " this is not snot"!

So what happens when you lose all the information for processing DNA?

If you hand an illiterate person a book it doesn't do them much good without being able to process the info.

That's a very good point. Nothing is foolproof or lasts forever. A huge thick rock fortress with instructions deeply etched into rock, even rock wears away.We may lose the ability to read. Eventually it may be down to visiting aliens to read our history if they ever show.

It would be cool if you could then implant that into humans so we know everything.

Are you suggesting we clone Claude?

        The logistics here are impossible.

The globe only got room for one Circumference Doom.

Anyone who suggests that should be banned immediately. From the human race.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

You mean know everything that we know?

Implanting information in DNA doesn't mean we will know everything, just that we'll keep knowing what we know now.

I'm messing with you. I know you meant "access everything humans know"

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

I saw this movie. Earth barely survived, but Superman did get to bang Lois so everything turned out ok.

Superman had to lose his powers to have relations with a human. Otherwise he would have torn her limb from limb. The downside of being a superhero.
