Hi all,

I have no idea if this is allowed, as a post in the forum so I am asking before I do it.

The son of one of my friends is currently in hospital after a serious car accident.
My friend and I are using Gofundme to raised funds for his medical and other expenses because it looks like he will be in and out of hospital for at least 9 months.

My question is this: can I wrote a post linked to the fundraising site in the hope that some members here may consider donating?

I welcome your opinions as to whether it's possible.
I DON'T welcome spam. TIA

Pure self promotion no matter how you color it.

I'm not saying you're a fraud but I know one guy on this forum did something similar only it was an obvious scam.

This is why I am asking if it is suitable or not.
I can prove it is legitimate and I think people know me well enough to know I don't do anything scammy. I wasn't sure if I could post this or not.

Would a link to that site be something they would approve, do you think? I know I promote my sites in my signature but this is more important fight now.

I prefer honest answers and am glad you do that Mr Yukon.

Maybe try local news media, they should have 1000s of social followers.

Back in the old days we would band together and set up a WSO with numerous Warriors donating products and raise the funds needed tis shame this does not happen any more.

Laurence if you do get one started I will come out of retirement and make some vids again for some warriors good luck mate

Laurence, very sorry to hear about your friend's son - I hope he is going to be okay.

I don't think it's a question of legitimacy; rather, if the mods allow one person to do it they have to allow everyone to do so and then the door is opened for all sorts of "fundraising" scams.

The last time someone did something like this in the OT the thread was either locked or deleted (I don't recall which) - and it was a long-time member. My guess is, if you tried, your thread or post wouldn't last long, unfortunately.

@Regional Warrior - that's a really kind and generous offer!

Jason, that sounds like a terrific idea to me. I truly appreciate your offer.

I have posted a WSO before but haven't had a lot of buyers. I do miss the "old days."
I am not sure what else I could do to create a WSO about right now. But I will have a good think about it. Or maybe other people have a good idea? I have never run one of those campaigns but I have donated to them in terms of products.

I wonder if anybody may be able to help point me in the right direction.

Thanks Cali. I think I will pm Alastair and see what he thinks.
I do appreciate all the support so far. I don't want to jump in if it is a waste of time.

I have forgotten the name of the Warrior who needed a new Kidney and a lot of people pitched in and set up a fantastic WSO for about $25 and there would have been about 30 products in all

Laurence I would email the Mods or even higher and see if this could be set up I am sure they would be OK by it but may have to prove first so it is all above board.

Then we just put the word out and who knows maybe some of the old time Warriors may put something in to it.

I think he's speaking of KimW - who did have a kidney transplant. That was a few years ago.

Kay I think you are right , would that have been the last charity WSO ? I don;t see why It can not be done again for the right reasons.

That's what I was thinking, Dennis. No telling what will get you the axe right now though. We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto.

It was Kim W. Tim Pears set one up later but due to some lawsuit he'd had previously there was a lot of controversy about it. It was the last fundraiser we did in here.

I wondered what happened, did he ever get sorted.... I recall that it was a do or die situation he was in and then it just fizzled out...

I don't think you can get the same results with the current membership. The fundraisers that have worked in the past were for clearly defined problems faced by well known members here.

ANY fundraiser back then had to have Allen's approval - some may not have realized that. Also, if you remember - for every successful fundraiser we had here...there were about a dozen or more attempt to solicit money for one cause or another that were deleted.

I hope you are able to help your friend and his son but I question whether you can get great results raising money for someone not associated with this forum. Don't want you to be disillusioned should that be the case.

I'm not surprised at the answer. Similar 'please fund' requests were deleted by the previous owner, too.

I have to say I agree withe decision. Serious fundraisers here have been for contributing members who were well known and liked. They were almost always having a problem not of their own making and we were able to help out.

Even under the previous management I doubt what you propose would be allowed. I remember many deleted threads where people were pointing to fund raisers for friends or extended family - or for people they saw online. Those were never allowed to remain.

I have been told that I can't do it as it is not allowed.
I agree that today it may not work as well as in the past due to the changes that have occurred here and many of the members who would happily got involved aren't here anymore.

So I guess that is that, sad to say. I think Kim's package got a LOT of support and that was great to see. I also have no idea what happened with him in the end.

Kim's kidneys put us into fund mode a few times over the years. Right now - he has a transplanted kidney and he's doing very well after having it..........I believe for 2 years?

I think Kim's transplant was late 2011 or very early 2012 - so perhaps 3-4 years ago.

I think it's great news about Kim. It proves that we're a force to be reckoned with when it comes to serious problems and fellow members. I am not surprised about the decision which is why I did not create a fundraising thread to begin with. Asking if I could was smarter. I certainly would not have wanted to be banned for trying to help my friend.

I thank everyone in this thread for your support and feedback as it has helped me a lot.
