It's a point of conjecture, but let's say you did take a moral compass that way.

Would it cease to be a truly moral compass?

If you were pro-compass inserto, the morality detectin' powers of the device wouldn't matter a jot to you as long as it felt good, but, like the tree fallin' in the forest that emits sound waves in the absence of ears to register them, it would still possess those powers.

Same for anti-compass inserto, I guess, but is a moral compass compromised by its location or manner of use? Same as a priest might be if he started laughing at the jokes around here? Or t*ssed off over Santa Girl 4 real?

Technically, a moral compass is not the same kinda agent as the priest because it has no volitional power to corrupt itself.

Any potential compromise is not down to IT.

But, sacred objects are taintable.

(Go see Justin Bieber's frickin' life.)

So I guess any sh@ttered compass mebbe would cease to be moral in the eyes of those who venerated its powers of discernment most.

Further down the scale of veneration you go, the more the compass retains its inherent moral detectin' powers in the eyes of the beholder, but the irony is, the less the revelations flowin' from those powers are of value to those people.

But, hey: conjecture.

All I know is, I ain't interested.

I got no desire to walk all crooked.

It is bad enough they had flared pants in the 70s without any more of us tryin' to walk in a straight line in spite of our peccadilloes.
