Wow, thanks for sharing.. I´m going to Peru next year and will def look this up, can´t wait...

Here´s more info on this skylodge from youtube:

"Thrill-seeking travelers can now stay in Skylodge, a trio of transparent pods placed 400 feet (122m) above the ground on a cliff-face in the Peruvian Andes.

Located near the city of Cuzco, the three 24 x 8 meter capsules, made from polycarbonate and aluminium, are operated by Peruvian tour company Natura Viva and overlook the spectacular Sacred Valley - a region renowned for its breathtaking scenery, small villages and death-defying roads.

The price you'll have to pay to stay in one of these incredibly unique capsules, is having to climb a 400-foot steel ladder embedded in the almost sheer-cliff face to get to one of these unique hotels. If you don't fancy that, you can also hike or use a zip-wire. Oh, and the other price you'll have to pay is approximately $300 USD."

That's awesome. I just hiked to Machu Picchu...Did the Sal Kantay trail with Alpaca Expeditions. It was amazing.

PM me if you need any info.

FYI stay in Cusco for 2 days before doing the hike. Altitude sickness sucks!

They have complimentary burials at the bottom of the cliff. If you land in the river you'll be billed for a burial at sea.

      Or condensation spoils the view?

If people gonna climb down a 400' ladder to sleep in a purpose built sleepin' pod, gotta figure they gonna be energetic sleepers.

I want a discount on that room. They totally forgot to put the curtains up. Everyone's gonna see me in my scantily scanties.

Who's responsible for cleaning the bird poop off those windows?

They agreed to the discount, but interestingly, demand for the other two units just increased sharply for that week, and they had to charge a premium for them.

Yeah, anyone in the lower two pods kinda gonna be on show.

But I jus' figured the real deal problem with these babies.

Condensation ain't gonna be an issue cos the designers factored in the need for ventilation.

Problem is, in places like Peru, ventilation = snakes.

Tellya, that rocky outcrop, up there close to the sun, is perfect for any number of venomous slitherers.

Get onea those in your hermetically-sealed prison pod, an' you are in trouble.

I figure we are all agreed that the covert USP of these pods is some kinda panoramically enhanced snake action, but the last thing you want in that scenario is serious opposition of a scaly an' fanged variety.

But what if the worst happened?

You got a big ole snake in there, squirtin' its stuff all over the glass, an' you had to make an exit through the escape pod?

Only a condor jus' perched there with a buncha twigs for its nest?

                It's a disaster movie, guys.

The Rogers brothers (good lookin' blonde triplets) all marry on the same day an' honeymoon out overlookin' Peru.

1st brother dies when his pod plummets into the valley durin' overvigorous foreplay.

2nd brother gets the snake an' condor scenario.

An' the 3rd brother's new wife is a werewolf.

I cannot believe the bozos behind this scheme are chargin' $300 a throw.

These frickin' pods are death traps with too many inbuilt options.

  • Yeah, I figure those cables pack a whole buncha slack to take account of alla the shakin' around these pods gonna take in the breeze, an' the only reason all three pods are arranged as they are has less to do with preventin' the top pod from fallin' on either of the other two, an' everythin' to do with how people are dirty f*ckers gonna pee outta the window.

Better not be a sleep walker! So, how much do they pay to have someone sleep there? Nice view, but PB has a point! There is the long climb, condensation, etc... What about MAID service? ROOM service? Emergency service?

Serious question: Is there any way to acclimate to a higher altitude before actually arriving? (Yes, I have a practical reason for asking this.)

Absolutely - once you have been at altitude, your body should recognize it. At least that's what they say. I was sick day 1 for 10 hours and then I was fine. That was my first time at altitude.

I have no qualms about climbing down the side of a hill as long as it doesn't take ropes to do so...........but sleeping in air like that? Holy cow. To me this is paying for the opportunity of having a coronary. I think I prefer my sleeping with nice solid ground under me, thanks very much.

I'd love to get into Peru for some rock hunting, though. The hanging pods are so disturbing to me that if I had an invite to go to Peru free, but that's where I had to sleep when I got there .....................I'd pass. If I need a rock from Peru that bad, I can just go to the Quartzite rock and gem show and buy one and sleep in a tent or in my rig to do so.
