I'm looking forward to seeing it next week when it dies down a bit.

I'm not crazy about having to have it too packed in the theater.

Is that, I'm a Star Wars nut fanatic who would like anything done on it reaction, or that of an objective movie critic who would look at the acting, plot dialogue and fx last in a clear and unbiased way.

Rotten Tomatoes finally has had a few critics see it and so far it has a highly favourable 94 percent rating.

      General synopsis so far reads:

"Critics Consensus: Packed with action and populated by both familiar faces and fresh blood, The Force Awakens successfully recalls the series' former glory while injecting it with renewed energy."

I'll be way behind as I don't see them until they are released on blue-ray. Usually wait for Netflix but will buy this one to add to the set.

My son in Atlanta has been watching the previous Star Wars movies (in order) - one a week - with his son....getting ready for this big release.

I think that may be a mistake in this case. Some movies just benefit from the theater, and I find them to be big effects movies.

Watch them in the theater and they're breathtaking. Watch them again later on blue-ray and you're like "meh, what was I thinking, these are cheesy hokey effects."

Avatar is a classic example of this.

So if you're remotely interested, you should go see this one in the theater.

Apparently the CGI FX were kept in check more this time. A lot more models and real sets were built so the actors had something to relate too. Not just green screens.

I can say that the film got a standing ovation at the end and everyone had smiles on the dials after leaving and the after party was great because you could talk about the movie and not spoil it for anyone

Given that it was a midnight showing, everyone there would've been a fanatic (as opposed to just being a fan), so you'd expect a standing ovation from them. That kind of ausience would've given the trailer a standing ovation. Hardly an objective reaction from an objective audience.

This latest release has however, piqued my curiosity. I'm actually going to go out buy the dvd box set of the first 6 chapters as I still haven't seen chapters 1, 2, 3 or 6.

I stand corrected. Everywhere else it was a midnight screening. That doesn't change the fact that the audience was hardly objective though.

All that aside, it is getting positive reviews from those who are objective. After I lost interest in the franchise after The Empire Strikes Back, for my interest to be rekindled is a also positive feedback, even if I haven't seen the movie yet,

If I was to number the movies on how I have seen them

5-7-4-6 ( the 3 before were not true movies ) In some scenes 7 is a touch better then 5

What, well, some of Avatar was brilliant, (approaching the planet) but others were clearly computer generated, still good, but more obvious.

If you are pressed for time, then 1,2,3 are a must see, before this one. Preferably the originals, the remastered ones, were crap, (or they tried to make it better and dropped the ball). I went to see the remastered Star Wars, and walked out to get a refund!

The Prequels aren't that good, but do fill in the gaps, between 3 and 7, (new one). If they show the lot in theatres, (some are) it might be best to hire, 4-6, so you have the option of fast forwarding some of the boring stuff, (Ja Ja being one).

230! l only went to see it 7 times!

Although l have probably seen it about 30 times on tv, well this was before tv turned to s***!

From what l have heard, l might go and see this a few times!

I read about this today, apparently Disney is going to do quite a few of these, one movie is concentrating on how they got their hands on the death star blueprints, (probably the ones R2 D2 had)?

And Harrison Ford, is going to do another Blade Runner, (cool) and l have to say it, yet another Raiders!

Lets hope that they do away with the CGI monkeys?

In numbering the series I was referring to their order in the story arc, not their date of release.

          1 The Phantom Menace
          2 Attack Of The Clones
          3 Revenge Of The Sith
4 A New Hope (The original Star Wars)
          5 The Empire Strikes Back
          6 Return of The Jedi
          7 The Force Awakens

Out of all of those I've only seen 4 and 5.

            5?

So, you have seen the prequels only, sound like you have seen the worst ones first.

Go and watch the first few, much better, and as said before if it says Remastered, as in updated CGI, bin it.

            Only rent the original ones!

                My two favorites.

I still remember the first minutes of A New Hope. I was stunned by the grandeur of the whole thing. I think the music played a big part of the success of that movie.

The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite. There is still dialog I remember when Yoda is training Luke. And it still gives me chills when thinking of it.

                Luke; "I don't believe it!"

Yoda; "That is why you fail".

And in case there are still people on the planet who don't know, the single biggest shocking reveal in movie history, comes at the end. And nobody...nobody spilled the beans, to ruin it for others.

Just after the "long, long ago,," scrolls off the screen and the underside of the spacecraft appears gradually and them takes up the whole screen. That set the tone for the whole movie. Oh, oh, if that is true, then maybe you should rent the rest, the furry things do get a bit annoying, and as for Ja Ja in the prequels, screaming into the night is more likely?

R2 D2 for me was ok, but Ja Ja, has to be the most hated Sci Fi character of all time?

Well, it took a lot of digging, but l found it!

Starring Claude Ford, Princess Chapshaw and that kid, Susan Ke , l think?

Classic, had a few months in Belvie, and a round of tranquilizers and l am as right as rain?

The scene where they are eating horrible, uncooked dunuts, and the giant dunut eating bugs were the worst parts.

Well, the worst part is where Indiana Claude eats a Viagra laced jam dunut, and then fights off the main enemy with his,......well, l don't want to say, don't want to go through rehab again?

                  But it gets messy!

No, wonder they rated it MAI, mature adults Idiot!

Wow - I went to my first movie theater in years yesterday....

Eight of us went to see Star Wars and I loved it. Not a lot of plot - but after all this is Star Wars. Special effects and sound effects are great. I'll be humming the theme music for days, I expect.

                    My two favorite things....

                    1. That little wrinkled old lady person with the round glasses with the little adjustable lens thingies (just like Penn of Penn and Teller used to advertise).

                    2. The scenery at the end when she climbs all those steps to reach Luke....I'd love to know where that scene was filmed (if it was a real place).

Kay; It's all real. What you were looking at wasn't a screen...but a window.

Still by far though, your favourite is when the dounuts on the other side are Double Glazed.

Just watched it tonight... I would give it an 8.75/10 it was an amazing movie from start to finish no fillers. But the casting of the villain was poor and left a strong distaste throughout the movie. His acting was very weak, non menacing and unbelievable. On a good note everything else was fantastic. This is the one movie you will want to splurge and see it in Imax 3D. Make sure to get there early they pulled out all the stops on the preview trailers. Good to see old faces and a new injection of characters.

Assuming someone has never watched any of the previous 6 but wanted to before seeing #7, what order would you watch them in. The theater release (4,5,6,1,2,3) or by chronology?

The prequels aren't that good, but does show how Darth Vader came about!

      Then watch Star Wars, etc.

But Star Wars, (the original, not the CGI crap one) kills the prequels, so that is it.

If you can sit through a fair grade 6 hours, including a very irritating comedy relief, with an impressive, (especially on a quality sound system) speeder race, and continue to watch the first three, then go ahead.

I would still watch it in the order they were released. There is magic in that first movie, #4.

I recommend original trilogy followed by the prequels. The prequels give away a great deal of the twists and turns of the original trilogy.

Just to be clear about my question - it's not me it's my wife. I've seen all 6 several times and they are my favorite movies with no real comparison.

I'm holding out a bit to watch #7, even though it's absolutely killing me, for 2 reasons. One I'm using it as a reward for finishing something I've been working on and will see it as soon as I reach my goal. Two I'm waiting until she can see it with me which is difficult because of her work schedule.

I'm watching this tonight! Looks like it's going to be an awesome film TBH! I'm a big fan of the original movies and I'm hoping the new movie is going to follow suit; the Stars Wars producers always try to push the limits of what our current film industry technology can produce; so I'm getting real excited to see what these magicians can craft together for us.

I'll post an update (without spoilers) once I've seen it and let ya'll know what I think of the film.

    Peace.

We had a good laugh when my Grandson asked me if I "understood the plot".

My reply: "Of course....they run over to this ship and fight for a while - then they escape to that planet and blow it up - then they run after the bad guys and fight some more.... and they fly around a lot and the long skinny planes shoot at the planes that make no aerodynamic sense".

By the time I got done my Grandson was laughing and said "yep, you got it".

I'd still like to have a Wookiee , though. Chewbacca is cool.

JJ Abrams did his job well.

His mandate was simple: undo the Jar Jar Binks Effect on the franchise....

True, but l was hoping for, fly into the new death star, destroy some barely plausible, regulator for the artificial black hole, with tie fighters in tow, of course.

Then barely escape while the compressed star, well, uncompressed?

But they took the cheap option of a p*** weak, death star type gulley and not much else!

I hope that they don't hold back for the next few, or l will go off the whole thing!

I loved Tron, but the Disney remake, groan!

Let's hope so, but if they keep the bratty Darth Vader, alive, it will do downhill pretty fast!

Yes, out of retirement and ....., (won't say anymore, but it sucked).

You will be happy to know that he is doing another Indiana Jones movie, hopefully Spielberg, will ignore his stupid kids and not put in CGI, monkeys or aliens!
