Kurt knows a little about yurts.

Here's a link to one of the best known yurt companies in the USThey also sell tipis)
Colorado Yurts: Modern Yurts for Sale from the Colorado Yurt Company

    Here's their gallery:
Photos and Videos of Yurts, Tipis and Tents from the Colorado Yurt Company. See videos of yurts and tipis being set up.

I think a yurt is a better idea than the "tiny homes" in many circumstances. They're a little bigger and often less expensive.

Videos often bore me quickly - but that was fun! What an interesting couple. I thought I'd like a yurt but after being in one (just to look at it) I didn't care much for it. I like angles and a yurt is all rounded.

This life-style does not really appeal to me but I do find it interesting. They (this couple) actually stopped homesteading for a bit.

I think the incident with the bear was a deep emotional trauma at the time.

They did, as you can see, get back to it.

I'm not into that lifestyle either...but I do like the idea of yurts. I'd want more modern conveniences, like indoor plumbing, running water, and more solar/wind electricity.

But I'm intrigued by the concept of yurts and other non-traditional building concepts. I think if someone is interested in tiny houses, yurts may appeal to them too.

Watched both video's. Strange one this. They are not self sufficient, perhaps a little. The husband still works. The power situation requires them going out back to civilisation to get the parts, it's affordability requires an infrastructure that can make them cheaply, that goes for other things too.

Here is one case where perhaps a gun would be appropriate for the bear episodes. Rather a half hearted attempt, an experiment. It's also not like they can make all or forage for their own food to get away from processed stuff either.

The guy 4 doors down has his roof covered with solar panels, he is off the grid, pays nothing. He also has water butts in his yard so gets a lot from them. A better example to pursue.

The only advantage would be fresh air, the view, the fact that it's the woods, the solitude, the peace and quiet.

I like that they are circular, although I'd want the top part of Kurt's yurt to be "see through". With the yurt being round this would give me a 360 degree view of the sky and stars at night.

I also like the "Taoist" feeling of a circular home, with no beginning or end.

However, with a little creative design, there's a lot that can be done to the interiors...take a look at this for an idea:

Kurt - I was looking through those photos - and that is the same one I saw and thought "I could do that". Lot more customization in those photos than I expected.

The only yurt I was in was fairly large but dark. There were 4-5 windows but it wasn't enough light.

I'm interested in tiny houses but couldn't live in one of them. However, saw a bunk house re-design on HGTV and I would LOVE to live there. Bigger than a tiny house and with defined spaces - big windows - a front porch and a lot of lovely wood inside.

I think the biggest impact of the tiny house popularity may be the realization in a wider audience that bigger is not always better. Bigger houses are more to take care of, more to repair and pay taxes on - and you can only be in one room at a time anyway!

I also enjoyed the second video. I admire someone who can try, back off and then try something again. Being alone with 3 small children in a yurt...with a bear just outside.... would be quite traumatic.

Might there be a link if that episode is on YouTube?

The problem I have with tiny homes, other than them being too tiny, is that for the same price, one could get a pretty decent used truck and a travel trailer with a tip out. If I'm going to live in something compact, I'd rather be mobile.

I think my "favorite" for long term, inexpensive housing is something that combines 3D printers, using local earthen materials, along with hobbit home design. I read an article a while back about a 3D printer that could use natural material to build houses.

I like the hobbit concept of having the home under "ground", which allows for green space above the home for gardens, park settings, play areas etc. It also is a great insulator to reduce the need for heat and AC.

This video shows a hobbit home built with pre-made modules. I bet that these modules (or entire homes) could be produced very cheaply in the future using 3D printers and natural materials like adobe. And the best thing is, they look cool.

Slow day at the sweeper store, eh.

By the way, if you're so good at local selling, why do you need to advertise your book on the internet?

Because...(pay attention now)...not all salespeople in the world, that read books on selling..... are local to me.

Sounds like a cop out. Maybe you should check out some of Kurt's stuff. Maybe you'll pick up a thing or two that will help you sell a couple books.

On the subject, I wouldn't mind living in a yurt. The wife and I toured one. I loved it. She, well, despised it.

You mean Kurt's stuff on marketing with videos? I'm all over it. He's about the best there is at video marketing. I read his stuff on the High Voltage Video Forum often.

Your wife hated the Yurt, because it reminded her that you used to live in a tent, before she saved you from your loser hippie tree hugging lifestyle.

                    See this?

He's a bit Smaug with his jokes. Joe Golfimbul thinks that about him too. Perhaps he should change his name from Kurt to Carc. In his one bi adult movie he was known as The Great Goblin and had a huge Bolg in his pants.
