Nike and whodathunkit? McDonalds!!!

One of the worst performers? Apple. They have formally delayed their plans to purchase Vatican City for cash until the launch of the iPhone 7.

Cheers

Well, I got off the island of no junk food, and actually did have me a bit of micky D's about 3 nights ago. So they can thank me personally.

On the apple side, I didn't need to buy anything really from them this year cause my stuff is pretty good quality and gets me through a good 5 years. Haven't hit the mark yet with what I've currently got so they are gonna have to wait for it.

Jill, you must be careful, this is Frank's thread. When you tell him you have not purchased newer Apple equipment simply because it is shinier than last years model he will be deeply hurt. It's the law too.

Not a problem. I'm buying an Apple watch as soon as V2.0 is released, an iPad Pro as soon as I can get to the Apple store and 200 shares of Apple stock on the dip. I'd buy a new computer, but they don't have anything new in the way of desktops. :-(

        I've got everyone covered.

I don't own anything Apple so far, but I've now decided I want an iPod Touch. lol. I know ... years late, but I want one.

What I've noticed about Apple products, is they all seem to do much of the same thing. It seems there is a lot of duplication and overlap of features between the iPhone, iPod, and iPad, and who knows, maybe even the watch.

Honestly, Suzanne - yes and no! While there is some overlap, they each have a specific strength in their niche, compared to the others.

If you're really into listening to music, the iPod is the way to go, although I'm surprised they still make them.

I had heard a couple of years ago that they stopped making them, however, the Apple store online sells brand new ones as do other stores, so that doesn't seem to be true. I want to replace my radio in my truck to be iPod compatible and get an iPod and stop listening to the douche bag DJs around here that think fart jokes and conservative rhetoric is what people want to hear in between a bit of rock and roll. All talk and little music ... I want all music and no talk.

That's no big deal to folks that bought the stock when it was $10-$15 before any splits. They are playing with house money and are not losing any sleep or thinking of selling. Apple's projected growth in China is astronomical and the country's weakening economy will not dent those projections because owning an iPhone is at the top of the purchasing list for anyone under 25 - food be damned!
The new Apple watch should do well. They supposedly have eliminated the shortcomings and concerns. I'm almost certain to get one, after seeing the reviews, of course.

I have been telling myself that I will be getting an iPad for years. Since I'm never away from home where I have two complete workstations, I haven't had the need. Now that I will be working much less I'm looking forward to doing much more reading after years of neglecting that interest, the time may have arrived. I also want to start listening to audio books. While I still can't define an actual need for the device, being able to sit in my lounger while reading or listening to books will certainly be more enjoyable than sitting at my desktop to do so. Additionally, I'm sure that I will find other uses for an iPad such as using it as a teleprompter for client videos. There are some great rigs for that functionality. The new iPad Pro is the first model that has enough whiz-bang technology to keep me interested.

Of course Steve Jobs is missed at Apple, but the head designer, Johnny Ives is one truly gifted humanoid. There is not a single Apple product that doesn't have his imprint on it and heads-up, Johnny is a car nut. Anything more need be said?

Suzanne - I've been looking at ipods, too - never wanted one before.

My d-in-law is the family computer expert and she uses Galaxy phone and non-apple pad/laptop/etc. Says she doesn't want to "feed apple" -maybe from her Oracle experience? Don't know. Son and grandson use iphones like 99% of the people around here.

My Atlanta son has a Classic Ipod - one of the first popular ones sold - still in original packaging and worth quite a bit more than he paid for it back then.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my life was dramatically changed 31 years ago by purchasing a Mac Plus and and Apple Laserwriter Plus printer. These two purchases set me on a path that outside of some rough times resulting from PTSD, enabled me to build a personal business that has been the genesis of everything I have in my life, today.

It's rare in life when man and machine come together with such incredible synergy. My Mac is the most important possession in my life. It gives me the ability to create and prosper. When people ask me why I would spend $10k on an Apple computer, all I can tell them is, it's because using Apple computers has made it possible for me to do so. My computers are actually free of charge since the money to purchase the new one was made by the ability for me to reach my full potential using the last one. It has paid for my lakeside house, a farm, my hobbies, my BMW convertible and knowing when I wake up in the morning that my Macs are there for me sends a tingle down my leg.

It's easy to mock, especially when you are a card carrying member of the Cult of Negativity and are incapable of acknowledging the richness of the lives of others. Pathetic.

This is where you say, "What's pathetic is being an Apple fan boy." Have at it. lol

LOL. Frank, I never been categorized like that but that is quite a sincere honor coming from the Founding Member of the Cult of Negativity

I must admit I find it amusing and very ironic and typical Warrior Forum mindset that somehow and someway you sum me up ( according to this one thread or any thread for that matter) as someone who is incapable of acknowledging others' richness.

Thanks for knowing me inside out, buddy. You are a true legend lol

I believe if I tallied up your posts the majority would be negative and dismissive, much like many of mine. I wasn't judging you, just stating an observation. I don't know you and can't judge you, nor do I spend my life judging others. I'm kind of a live and let live guy. As long as you're not hurting another person, I really don't care how anyone chooses to live their life and unless they are spouting religious or 'spiritual' claptrap, I never mock.

All I can say is get to work young man. And report to me this time next year with your tallies. And in particular go up to the Upstairs where it really is telling and truly counts !!

I'll pass. If it means that much to you, you can put in the effort to prove me wrong.

Additionally, for sure I did an inordinate amount of mocking 'upstairs' and deservedly so. I believe though, that if you take the time to tally, I haven't even taken a peek upstairs in months, let alone posted anything. Those days are over.

My 'mocking' comment referred to down here, where I communicate with people on an ongoing basis. Am I mock-free? Hardly, but it's a very minor portion of anything I post and that becomes less and less with each passing day and like I said only toward people that I don't have an ongoing relationship with - for lack of a better word. How do you think I've become so beloved?

You should be aware that the latest version of OS X has a push notification to warn me when something I type may be perceived by someone on an inferior PC as mocking. :-) Much like spell-check, it's not perfect, but it's good enough.

                      Cheers. - Frank

If the mac works for you, good for you. And after 31 years, I wouldn't even think to suggest you should even try anything else. There's really no point in it.

But every single time I have work that simply must be done on the mac, I cringe. I procrastinate. And eventually when I muster up the resolve to deal with the horrid pile of ish that is the mac way, I have to remind myself, generally more than once breath deep relax this is temporary breath deep relax this is temporary soon we will be back to sanity.

When they put the max on linux, I was like woo good news. But even that couldn't fix it. It fixed the horrid os internals, but it couldn't fix the Apple mentality.

My macbook air, with the i7, 8GB ram, and 500gb ssd, is almost, but not quite, one fourth as fast as my 5 year old i7-870. I'll give it credit, it's a sexy thing. When it's closed. But trying to use the thing, it just has no power. I didn't complain about the price I had to have one, and I paid double to get the most powerful one so I wouldn't have to suffer ill performance. And I STILL have to suffer ill performance.

Which to be honest just blows my mind. I haven't had a computer that actually annoyed me with ill performance in years. YEARS. But Apple has somehow managed to spec an i7 chip that is slower than a 5 year old celeron. I didn't even know that was possible! I guess mac people just don't even know how fast current chips are supposed to be.

And when I use it, it just feels like an out dated paradigm. It feels like a Sparqstation from 1994. Forcing the menu bar to the top, for example. Wtf?

And I sharing a thumb drives between systems is just nasty because the mac insists on scribbling all over the damn things with extra bs files. .fseventsd .TemporaryItems and more like ._.fseventsd

Native linux doesn't do that. No Apple had to work extra hard to eff that up.

And the single biggest wtf? Autosaving without asking me. That's just rude and obnoxious. I open a file, cut something from it, paste it in another file, and close the original. Decide it don't want it in the new project, so delete it. A few weeks later I go into the original and the stuff is GONE! WTF? Someone said "just go find it in TimeMachine". Are you effin kidding me? THAT'S your solution? I don't even know exactly WHEN I had it. Now I have to go wander around and try to find it, because the mac paradigm overwrites my files without asking me?@?!!?!!?!?! Srsly? GTFO.

But there is no way Apple will ever succeed with mac osx as a general mainstream business platform.

And it's not because they can't design and build cool stuff. They can and they do. Rather it's their entire "we know what's best for you" mentality. I mean cool is cool and all, but losing a lawyer's work product because "they should want to work different from how they want to work" is just never going to be a successful strategy.

My wife has a Mac I7 laptop with 8 gigs, admittedly several years old version. It's very slow compared with my I5 PC (about a year old). She is a graphic designer and Mac may still have a slight edge over the PC equivalent software. It was once its forte but PC has caught up pretty much.

The wife looks at my PC Which once had 8.1 and now 10. She expressed some interest in getting an Edge. She is impressed. I have done stuff on her Mac and familiarized myself with the operating system but she quite often comes over to get me to do something on my PC that she can't do on her Mac.

Well, nothing you mentioned affects my daily use. Not every tool is right for every person. It depends on the job at hand. I've yet to come across an issue that I couldn't handle, although on occasion I would have to hunt for a piece of arcane software.

As far as 'auto-save' is concerned, while that is a feature of some applications, it can be turned off. My Mac, running OS 10.3.3 does not auto-save anything - ever, nor has any version of any Mac operating system I have ever used. For my use, I wish that more apps had an auto-save feature. I find it quite useful and all apps that employ it have both an 'undo' and 'revert' option, allowing you to instantly return to any previous state of a project. Additionally, I don't use Time Machine for anything.

My rig is perfectly configured and suited for my work, which is not that intensive. Perhaps that's why I'm so delighted. While I love my Mac Pro, I could probably get by for 90% of my work with my Mac Mini workstation, which is a sweet little machine in its own right.

All talk and little music ... I want all music and no talk.
If this is your intended use, then an iPod is about the worst possible solution.

Get a new radio that has a USB or a SDHC slot, and then you can put folders of music on different chips, and its just plug one in and play it.

With the iPod, it is far too attention devouring to make it actually do anything useful while driving.

And finally, of all the use cases for Apple, anything music related REQUIRED iTunes, and I promise you it is the most invasive arrogant unproductive pos on the entire planet.

Last week I decided to finally put a few MP3's on my work iPhone so I'd have something to listen to on the train.

I copied 3 - 4 GB of mp3 files to a USB stick on my PC in about 5 minutes.

Plugged my iPhone into my macbook (bought only because I need it for compiling w/ xcode) and after 45 minutes of trying, still hadn't managed to get a single song onto the iPhone.

Finally, if I wanted to, I would have to "reset/clear" the iPhone, as whatever was on it was sync'd from another computer. So I gave up.

The problem is that a single iTunes instance has to be the sole exclusive owner of anything music (and probably video) on the device, and there can be only one.

Well, that's completely broken. I own my music files, not Apple, not iTunes. Most of them were ripped from my own CD collection, and I manage them in my own file system. Yes, I know, *gasp* I actually use my file system.... a thought Apple finds appalling, and would do anything to prevent.

But if I want to put a file on a device, I damn well expect to be able to plug in the device, browse what's on it, browse what on whatever computer I'm on, and drag and drop files between the two. Add this song, get rid of that one. From the files. Directly. In about 20 seconds.

I have 4 or 5 computers I use regularly. Work windows desktop. Home windows desktop. Laptop at "field office" where I manage personal real estate investment. Macbook for mac/ios development. Windows VM on macbook. I'm not in the mood to have to build and manage a "library" on every device where I may choose to make a few adjustments to my music files. When I'm 3 hours away from home at the satellite office, I'm not looking to wait until I get home to do something. And as a software developer, machines come and go like the wind. If not the hardware, then at least a full strip and reinstall of the software.

So that single instance of itunes to own the library? Never going to happen. My machines come and go too much, I migrate from one environment to another. And iTunes adds zero value to me, just aggravation.

THUS, the flash memory chips. USB sticks are like $4 (for a USB3 8GB). A half dozen of them is... um... $24. a 10 pack is $20 to $30 on ebay. Almost 80GB of music, in your pocket, plug and play, $30.

Thank you Apple, but you can take your damn iTunes and shove it wayyyyy up where the sun don't shine.

My new Town and Country has a USB port. The new SL63 has BOTH an SDHC slot (in dash) AND an USB (inside the console). I can't imagine any new car doesn't include a USB or SDHC port.

WTF do I need an iPod for?

I had this radio in my Ford Freestar (rip)... so I can personally attest to it being a pretty good radio. w/ Factory speakers sounded wayyy better than the factory radio. played from USB sticks. Maps worked well, but NAV would sometimes crash in NYC. But really, I know how to use a map, so I don't need NAV, just map.

It also has hands free bluetooth for any phone, but honestly, the sound quality for that was barely adequate. Good enough to avoid getting tickets for using the phone, but not so much for extended conversations.

          VX7020VX7020

But whatever radio you get, get one with USB or SDHC and leave the iPod / iPhone out of it.

When people ask me why I would spend $10k on an Apple computer, all I can tell them is, it's because using Apple computers has made it possible for me to do so. My computers are actually free of charge since the money to purchase the new one was made by the ability for me to reach my full potential using the last one. But if l have a choice between a high powered Toshiba, with 1 terabyte of storage, or an Apple, (for around the same price) with 256 gigs of storage, no contest!

Thanks ... this is what I just discovered. My nephew is visiting his Dad and brought a couple of iPods that he has moved on from. I had already ripped all of our albums for an MP3 player and thought it would be just a simple copy them over to the iPod. I mentioned this and was informed that is not the way it works. Got to have the iTunes account, which I don't want.

I did download it and attempted to install it on my computer. I have Windows Vista and it said NO ... must have at least Windows 7 so that solved the problem right there. I think my laptop is 7, but I still really don't want an iTunes account, due to all the hacking and theft of iTunes store credits and charges that show up on hacked users credit cards that they didn't authorize.

So, your solution seems the best. I actually have a CD player installed in my truck that I use, but I liked the idea of smaller media carrying an entire library of music.

WOW, guess l am not the only one, that has doubts about Apple PC's!

My Mother has considered getting one, and as far as l can tell they roughly have a Pentium 4, with little storage memory.

It is the lack of storage and price that always puts me off, eventhough they look nice!

My present Laptop Toshiba, i3, 8 gig, 320gig HD's, memory is almost full, well, l had to strip everything off it, and put it on the 3TB external drive, (l do a lot of memory intensive graphics) to claw back about 40 gigs.

So, $2100, for a Laptop with 256gig HD, is pretty useless for me, and l was a bit stunned that it is slower!

So much for my brother saying that they are perfect!

But l will say that iphone's navigation is a dream, so!

My brother has to occasionally use a normal PC for business and hates it!

But as l have pointed out, if it isn't refragged, scanned for viruses, etc regularly, then it will be a dog to use!

Autosaves, groan, what a pain. I would throw out an Apple if it did that to me with using Photoshop?

Sometimes l have to compress the entire file in order to turn it into a jpeg for presentation purposes. So, what happens if l am tired, do this, and put the image on my desktop, and turn it off, since l saved it before flattening, but Apple stuck in a save before l switch off?

Basically l may lose, a month of hard work, (l usually create an emergency file, and back up externally) but yeah, pretty annoying!

Doesn't sound like l will be getting an Apple anytime soon?

And there would be no reason for him to. Samsung is a one-trick pony. Apple has a bevy of products with incredible margins, some as high as 40%. Apple shares were down 5% last year.
The Apple watch is a pretty cool product, but it is most likely with the founding genius gone, more rare than common?

Samsung is definitely not a one trick pony. They are one of the most diversified conglomerates on earth. and are involved in textiles, food processing, ship building, insurance, retail, electrical, electronics and information technology..

Apple on the other hand deal in information technology and a retail component. However since their retail division only sells Apple products, that hardly qualifies as a diversification.

DISCLAIMER: Despite not owning a single Apple product, i directly own shares in Apple.

I own a Samsung TV, desktop PC monitor and a mobile phone. I do not own any shares in Samsung directly.

Indirectly I own shares in both Apple and Samsung through Exchange Traded Funds..

I was referring to their electronics division. Yes, they make computers, but I have never met anyone that has actually purchased one.

Samsung has a reputation for poor build quality, reliability and horrible customer service, Never purchased a Samsung anything.

Build quality, looks and reliability is something Apple has, but you sure pay for it.
