Surreal Treetop Bubble Shelters

From the Video Description

Published on Nov 21, 2015

In this video, we take a tour of the colourful and inspiring bubble shelters at the Canopée Lit eco-resort in Sacré Coeur, Québec. The bubbles are inflated with a fan system and are designed with a separate vestibule so that you can get in and out without deflating the structure.

The bubbles are placed on elevated wooden platforms to create the impression that you're in a treehouse. During the day, the clear domes offer panoramic views of the forest and wildlife, and at night, a view of the moon and stars.

This might not be a good long-term tiny house / housing solution but it's a very unique type of accommodation that we haven't seen anywhere else.

Each bubble has it's own dry toilet-style outhouse, a sink, and water jug for washing your hands. The main cabin, a 15 minute trail walk away, has wifi, board games, a patio and a cafe that serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and more!

Check out the Canopée Lit website if you're interested in learning more: www.canopee-lit.com

Thanks for watching!

Mat & Danielle

Very interesting.

Not a bad way to "camp" but I'm wondering how exactly "away" from anything you would be since there would always be others wandering around there, too. Beats the run of mill hotel, though - and more comfortable than camping.

Well, you know what they say about the three little pigs, and bubble houses!

The big bad wolf, only needs to sink in one tooth and the three little pigs are skewed and roasted!

Burst a bubble, and poke a pig!

Hey, an' don't forget Little Red Ridin' Hood.

I figure these bubbles gonna score higher than those dangly clifftop pods from a while back when it comes to red hoods an' ridin'.

              Meantime, wolves are so cool.

They had a bad press down the years, but they are real good at what they do.

Hyenas are similar, but they look weird, like hunchback clowns.

Wolves have noble faces, an' I understand they are the ancestral/genetic blueprint for all dogs, even the stoopid ones.

I didn't want to mention ridin hood, since there is a 30 metre restraining order between her and the wolf.

As the wolf has filed charges against ridin hood, saying that she gave inflammatory and racist remarks, (with all of that, big teeth, stuff).

I won't even mention Grandma, but let's just say that she is in a safe house, and new identity!

As for the three pigs, l can't discuss that, but they, (lawyers) are trying to get the Wolf off with third degree murder instead of manslaughter.

Or plead temporary insanity, (you know, l bit the bubble house, because of a whopping cough, and skewed the three pigs and put them over an open fire, because l thought that they were pink elephants, usual stuff).

I like echidnas. Top them with lots of cheese and sour cream, with some refrieds on the side. Nothing like good old Mexican food. Give Claude a few and he'll keep the bubbles inflated without needing to use an air pump.

Mark, a quiet word in your ear. There are no echidnas in Quebec. Not unless they're hopelessly lost anyway.

Gotta figure the bubble authorities would ban BBQs up there in inflato-land, but yeah, the more people you got in a forest, the more likely the trees gonna be incinerated.

That's actually a pretty interesting observation.

Remember a thread a little while back where we were talking about fresnel lenses - and that curved building that was melting parked cars on the street? (http://www.warriorforum.com/off-topi...l#post10428073)

I wonder if it's possible for one of these bubbles to start a blaze if the sun hits it just right...

Yes, good point, and more so, would you leave your kids in one of those things in summer?

If the blower is an air con, then it will probably be ok, but l guess unless there are Teslar wires up all of the trees, having multiple air con's going negates, the one with nature bit!

My guess is No. If they were filled with water, Yes. To create a lensing effect, the bubble would have to be solid, and transparent....or have the exact concentric ridges to create the lensing effect. I am basing this opinion on my years as a Super Ninja with sharp swords and Ninja stars....with rampant kids with knives.

    Quebec isn't a dry area.

As I mentioned - how far away from everything, yadda yadda? Well - you can bet that there will be built paths that people aren't supposed to go off in their "forest experience" - and in dry conditions there will also be fire and smoking laws in effect. This is a "nature experience" -- not nature. It's corporately run land, and being that extreme dryness will ruin the forestry, and subsequently, the profit margin, you can bet that they have capability to water that whole area.

Just got around to watching this video - and my reaction was totally different than it was for the "rooms" hanging on a cliff.

My first reaction was positive and I do think it would be a beautiful view. But then I realized that much of what I like about wilderness camping or renting secluded homes or cabins for vacation is the view combined with the sounds of nature and the fresh air coming in through the windows.

              Interesting concept though.
