Really? $4.3 Million for That Photo?

What exactly makes it so great?

Is it worth it?

The "Rhein II" was taken by Andreas Gursky in 1999 and sold november 8, 2011 at Christie's New York.

A photo (or anything) is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it so, for the new happy $4,3 MILLION photo owner it was worth it but, for you and I, probably not.

Edit: I just want to add this... The "Phantom" is a photo made in 2013 by Australian-born photographer Peter Lik. If true this print was sold to a private collector for $6.5 million which would make "phantom" the most expensive photo ever sold.

However, many in the industry have expressed skepticism over the claimed sale price and that the alleged sale was handled privately, instead through an auction house or gallery and that no documentation had been provided to confirm the sale and the 6,5 million sales price. The most expensive and confirmed photo is the "Rhein II" above as for what i know.
  • Value is a f*cker.

I was gonna qualify that remark, but that would only diminish the f*ckeritude of value.

I've dug better photos out of the trash, after you threw them away.

My Rachel Welsh photo still makes me tingle. This photo does not.

Idiot! Her actual birth name is Rachel Welsh. She changed the spelling, to be more distinctive. She was born in Wales, and that's how they spelled it there. When she moved to the US, her agent had her change the spelling.

Just look it up on Wikipedia.

It doesn't particularly bother me what someone chooses to spend their money on, but if you're going to pay that much for a digital photograph, you'd better be confident the photographer isn't going to print off hundreds more down the line and devalue your "investment".

And I read that this photo was digitally edited to remove some dog-walkers and a factory building. To my mind, that makes it more of a manipulated image than a pure photograph. Makes me wonder why he didn't just paint it.

Apparently it is massive and took months to set up and do all the digital stuff.

Having said that, I would have paid a little bit extra to have the photographer killed to limit his originals. Having him drowned in The Rhine would be a nice touch.

Nothing personal, just ensuring a quicker ROI for myself.

It l saw that on Fiverr l would pass?

4.3 for a dreary river, in England or Scotland, Princess, F***wits is an understatement!

Even if it was a tropical beach with scantly clad women l wouldn't pay that, well, maybe $10?

Months to set up,.......were they waiting for a particulary overcast day, so the light would glisten off the dreary river,.....groan, where is a razerblade?

I knew either you or Kurt were going to say that. This just proves that NASA has gotten to you. Sure, keep your head in the sand while believing their lies.

What a lot of people don't know is that Raquel Welsh is the mother of Jennifer Lopez. When Welsh was 21 years old, she had an affair with Ricardo Montalbán. They had their fling on Fantasy island. If you take the names Ricardo Montalbán and Raquel Welsh, you get Jo Raquel Tejada....Jennifer Lopez's real name.

NASA has been keeping this information off of Wikipedia. But my investigators have dug up the facts...and Ricardo Montalbán.

NASA can only keep us in the dark about this for so long. The truth will out.

You ain't the most sane person here Claude, hate to break that to you!

My told you so, speech is under glass, with a "in case of truth" break glass hammer on the side.

I will use it at least once this year, twice if NASA backs me up again?

Clarence Whitlowe...Now it's Raquel Welsh? Above, you said it was Rachel Welsh. I corrected you that it was Raquel Welch. Keep trying, the law of averages suggest you should be right sometime.
