Yes, pretty accurate, you have to be in it to have a P*** weak chance of winning it!

A P*** weak chance of winning?

Odds of winning are 1 in 292 million. You have a better chance of...

Having an IQ of 190 or greater - (1 out of 107 million)
Give birth to quadruplets, even without the help of fertility treatments - (1 in 729,000)
Be killed by an asteroid strike - (1 in 700,000)
Being an American billionaire - (1 in 575,097)
Be killed by a lightning strike - (1 in 164,968)
          Die by drowning - (1 in 1,113)
Be struck by lightning, while drowning - (1 in 183 million)

Be killed by a lightning strike, cool, l was almost killed by lighting when l was young, well, we where driving home, got close to our driveway, and l looked behind the car in the rear window and saw a large flash.

Apparently the strike was about 5 metres away!

But yeah, Tattslotto in Au, is about one in 13,000,000.

And what l am currently doing, which requires a lot of hard work, and investment, etc, should be a sure thing if results are viewed within a year!

But it has taken me about 7.5 years of hard work, learning and countless failure.

Far easier for someone to listen to media BS and go and buy a ticket!

You got to be in it to win it, puke!

Or the ever so popular,....the power to change it all. Yeah, change it all for the company, f*** all chance for you!

And if l make 3 or 7k in a week this year, some will say how lucky l am, yeah, almost 8 years of hard slog, with failure being the most likely outcome!

            Frickin, Lucky!

And I can I say for absolutely certainty neither you nor I will achieve any of these.

              Total pipe dreams

              My point ?

My point is there are people I personally know who actually think they have a competitive advantage in winning the Lotto.

              It's absurd.

These people do not have a pot to pee in but they spend $20 to $50 a week on the lotto. ( week in and week out)

These same people refuse to look into putting this $100 mo. in a very conservative fund and compounding their interest over time.

They refuse to take the time to educate themselves on money management and building something for the future.

Rather, they are in it for this (absolutely ridiculous) "dopamine Drip" they get from playing this stupid Lotto.

As I said it's just pure pipe dreams.

There is nothing wrong with spending a couple of bucks to play the Lotto every now and then. I did this past Saturday but when you spend $100 a month for 15 years in a row it's a true sickness

Yes, barring dumb luck, that person may have bought a ticket a week for 20 years, I suppose that is why it is causing such hysteria, why buy one a week, when you could put 10 years worth into one ticket?

Lose a ton of cash all at once, makes sence to me, (not).

                Yes, exactly!

They could have learned about programming or graphics, and employed someone part time from the Phillipines to do most of the work, (some are very happy to do so) and created an empire in no time at all?

$100 a month for 10 years, they could have replaced their income in 5?

                F***ers!

Yeah, people are programmed for get rich quick. Whether it be the Lotto or a push button MMO product.

People love it. They love to ruminate about it. If I hear one more person around me talking about how they are going to take the $900 million and divide it up and give a million to each of their cousins, then buy a house in Colorado, a beach house in florida keys, a winter getaway in Maine, and then a flat in London ..I think I will scream. LOL

Like I said people are really into the 'dopamine injection' a/k/a getting skin in the game by buying a ton of tickets and then dreaming about it when they go to bed and telling people at work they that will buy everyone homes when they win lol

                  Just so sad

And then when they do win, they tend to p*** it all away?

I read about a couple who won 21 million in AU, and poured most of it into a local soccer club, over 10 years, they of course ended up broke and unemployed.

Well, they also spent it on lavish holidays overseas, so they do have fond memories!

I think that they should have locked away one million, for emergencies. I mean couldn't they have thought gee, we are down to our last million and the soccer club has a new everything, eventhough it needs 50k for maintenance for the club?

But we have given them 17 million, and probably given a free holiday for everyone, etc. Some people are way to thick to govern this much money?

That is the trouble with get rich, if it does happen, then the people involved will most likely see the money as limitless, but even 30 million in a vault will go down if spent.

Maybe they should force them to watch Brewsters Millions? Some of it might sink in?

You have replaced the logic of the simple with the logic of the semi simple.

What they should have done is locked away the whole thing, not for emergencies but for eternity. Put it all in an investment trust and spent only what the trust produced (or projected) in income each year. Say 5%.

What, living on only 5% of my 21 million? Why, that's crazy. That's only.... what? $1.05 million a year? Who can live on that?

And if taxes took half the $21 off the top, then yeah they should have done that with the $10.5 million, and they should have lived on $502,500 a year.

Just buy 292 million tickets covering each possible combination and you're a guaranteed winner. Granted, more than one person could win, but on the other hand, some of the 292 million tickets will be non-jackpot winners.

So there are several hundred billionaires in the US, (which is a staggering thought in itself). Why wouldn't one of them simply play every combination? It almost seems like a slam dunk to roughly double one's money. (Of course, if you have to split the jackpot, then you're kinda screwed....)

I think it's more a matter of logistics and how could a single person select then purchase 292 million tickets?

Also, some of the tickets should be non-jackpot winners, so that should offset some of the risk. I'm not sure how much of the money goes to the jackpot or what the payoff percentage is, but some lotteries would payback 50% with about 1% going to the jackpot. If accurate, there would be about $288 million (or so) in non-jackpot winnings from 292 million tickets.

It was done once. A company bought 80% of the possible numbers, and won more than they paid for tickets. Somehow, that is now not allowed.

Here's my plan, buy a $1 scratch off ticket, If the scratch off ticket wins anything I'll invest all of it except the dollar back into Powerball tickets. If I lose on the scratch off ticket I'll through the ticket in the trash & say: F#@% this, I'm out of here.

I'm actually going to buy some tickets tomorrow - not something I usually do. However, thought the chances of winning are slim to almost none...if you don't buy a ticket, the chances ARE none.

The number is so staggering I can't imagine it. No one needs that much money - but I'd take it

I bought some for the last drawing and will buy some for the next. Someone will win eventually and if you don't buy, you have zero chance. There's also a lot of smaller ways to win with prizes ranging from $4 to $1 Million ($2 Million if you buy the booster).

I'd actually like to win the smaller amounts rather than the whole thing. I have no need for that much money, seriously. I'd donate most of it to my favorite charities if I did win the whole thing.

Anyway, I texted hubby to buy me some tickets on his way home from work, lol!

So far I've made a contribution of $40. I've been involved for the last two drawings.

      Bingo!

Your odds of winning something are not so bad as trying to be the one winner.

I hadn't realized where it was until last night while visiting a friend.

Odds are there will be more than one big winner - and even split it's not so bad.

But if it did come down to ONE or even NONE that would be really exciting.

I think I'd rather win than be POTUS.

I've already contacted my lawyers to set up a trust that will keep
    it anonymous when I win.

    Define "do it again".

The buying of several thoudand tickets? My money says "probably".
The doubling of the money? My money says "probably not".

And guess what... I'm "guaranteed" to be right, at least on the second part.

I'm glad to see that the jackpot will be split between 3 winners. Hate to see it all go to just one person.
