Yes folks, thanks to our outpouring of CO2, the next ice age has been postponed for at least 50,000 years.

And when are we supposed to burn in eternal hellfire from global warming? Is it greater than 50,000 years? I just wanna know if I should clap myself on the back for owning an SUV or going back to sheepishly shrugging when some hippie points it out.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

I ignore food fads and warnings because I've learned if you give it time - the advice changes. Once you know that, you don't have to change your habits - just go on as you were and eventually the 'science' will catch up with you.

Apparently it works for larger issues too...seems global warming has a silver lining after all. Who would have thunk it?

Is this one of those bad news/good news thingies? "If we don't kill ourselves by warming too much...at least we won't freeze for a long time".

Please do not 'release balloons' for celebrations. The balloons and trailing ribbons entangle birds and kill wildlife and livestock that think the balloons are food.

I think we should pat ourselves on the back. We saved ourselves from the freezer, by jumping into a pot of boiling water.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

So now you're just taking the essence of what I've already said and rephrasing it as your own? Typical Whitacre.

No. But I did say "pat ourselves on the back"..and you said, "clap myself on the back ".

And since you said it first, and the phrase is similar, I concede to your literary inspiration.

But the essence of what I said has no relationship to what you said.

By the way, I was watching Startalk with Neil DeGrasse Tyson. And he said an interesting thing. He said that if all the CO2 and methane are released back into the atmosphere, the planet would still support life.

It would be like the planet when the dinosaurs were here; much higher sea levels, much warmer...

But the planet won't turn into Venus. And that was my main fear. Of course, this doesn't mean he was right, or that his source was right...or that I'm right...or that anyone was right. It was just interesting to me.

A scientist friend (with a wicked sense of humor) told me he used to worry about global warming. Then he learned more and realized the predictions of "end of life" were overblown.

Said he realized the only "life" that was truly endangered were those people living along the coasts.

He said (he's in Atlanta) - "I decided I could live with that so I don't worry about it any more."

I thought that was a practical approach.

Put your thinking cap on and read both posts again. Really try. It might be a struggle and you might even smell a slight burning smell, but if you concentrate enough, I think you'll see the similarity. (Don't concentrate too hard, though, as you might require a change of pants.)

My one true eternal regret, based on the new information (assuming it's true) about the limits of global warming.........

is that you will not die screaming, in hideous agony, from the stifling heat... "Claude was right! I was a fool! Claude was right all along!"

And I would hear you too. I would probably be dead by then...but I will haunt you, Dan Riffle...until the end of time.

I thought that we were supposed to be 95% deep fried by 2100?

All growing corn, and keeping an eye out for wormholes around Saturn?

Or waiting for the heat conveniently trapped in the deep oceans to do something?

Or at least see a palm tree in Antarctica?

I watched a documentary a while back (Making North America) where they said they found palm leaf fossils in Alaska.

That would be true. They've also found Mastondons quick-frozen with tropical plants still in their stomachs - suggesting a rapid shift of the earth axis. Fringe theory that some paleontologists, paleogeologists, etc are working on at the present time. WIth the discovery of a possible ancient settlement in Antarctica, we might get more answers - depending what is found if they decide to go dig it up. It's 2k under snow so not sure if that's going to happen any time soon.

MATHEMATICIAN SAYS NO TO MAN RELATED GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE

There is this mathematician who used to visit a local radio talk show. (He may still, I just have
not listened to that show for years.) By his calculations, gasses and pollution dissipate so low
in the atmosphere that they have hardly any impact on the atmosphere and climate. Something
like less than a 1/4 of a mile and then gone for all intensive purposes. He had an interesting
take on a lot of things.

Careful, Bisgrower, you are making too much sense, next you will be telling us that world temp, haven't moved for almost 20 years, and G20 summits are a big binge fest?
