Indian man could be first recorded human fatality due to a meteorite | Ars Technica

So it finally happened. Somebody has probably (unconfirmed) died from a meteor. So if you ever wanted to know what your odds of getting hit by a meteor are, something like 1 in 7,300,000,000. Odds of winning powerball are about 292,201,338 per ticket, and a self funded business startup has about a 1 in 5 chance of being successful.

What's really insanely crazy is, that in the bad news day thread, I actually responded after the earthquake happened with "Whats next? A meteor strike and some volcanoes?" Which both actually happened. I think a moderator can confirm I posted that and then edited my post (removed the comment because I felt it was in bad taste.)

Your psychic powers are strong my son. It all started in the Asteroid belt when a chunk of rock said to his mates: "Back Soon, I'm Just Going For An Indian"

Maybe the heaven's couldn't handle the tidal wave of spam comments any longer.

I know I certainly can't. One site of mine had 2k pending when I looked today. I feel bad if there's people leaving actual comments in there, I can't really deal with that any other way then just deleting it all.

We are in OT. Anything goes....(well, until a mod moves it and then it goes somewhere else)

Kevin Bacon claims Claude is separated from the meteorite strike by six degrees.

    Wow!
    Be careful with your comments.
I've read about this accident. But it turned out that the meteor of such size couldn't be a reason of explosion which killed this indian. It could explode only in case it got to a gasoline tank and it could kill the indian only it case it got right into him.
So the only accident of death from a meteor remains the case with a cow.

I don't know why I need to be careful but it does seem you are correct.

So the odds of you being hit by a meteorite and dying are even worse then I previously though!

Not according to the site referenced in the article linked to by the OP which records that horses and dogs have also been fatally struck. There's also an entry of a meteor strike wiping out a family in China in 1907, although, mysteriously, it adds that no evidence has been found (one for Shane to investigate, perhaps).

In fact, the site (Interesting Meteorite Falls, compiled by the International Comet Quarterly) is worth a look if you're waiting for the coffee to brew. One example from the records:
1954 11 30 Sylacauga, AL, USA - Woman in home hit by meteorite after breaking through roof
Silly woman. If you're going to break through a roof, you probably deserve all you get.

No, the gull chip, eating frenzy, is over, and the cleaners have mopped it all up, so, enough said!

But l read that the guy was near it, when it landed and left a 1.4 metre crater. The meteor was about the same size as a AAA battery.

So I saw this streak of light in the sky getting brighter and brighter. I was wondering what it was, then it hit me.
