Circus Maximus versus Dream Theater

Anyone of you here guys heard about these bands? They both have similarities but then again, fanatics will always support the one they believed in.

Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band which started in 1985 while Circus Maximus is a band from Oslo, Norway of the same genre consisting of 5 members.
When I first heard songs of Circus Maximus almost 2 years ago, it immediately reminded me of Dream Theater (band/songs). I opened up this topic since I bumped into a forum earlier which shows an image of an album cover of both bands.

Here is the link Dream Theater copy Circus Maximus in Art Work! | Ultimate Metal - Heavy Metal Forum and Community.

What do you say guys?

I have listened to Dream Theater occasionally over the years...not nearly as much with regards to Circus Maximus. Gotta love Mike Portnoy's giant drum kit!

I have not payed any attention to the referenced artwork beef between the two bands.

    Cheers

This guy ain't human. Sadly, the band has to go on without him due to some conflict with beliefs. Mike Portnoy just asked for a break to get some fresh ideas outside the walls of DT but unfortunately, it ended in a decision which broke all DT fans' hearts way back in 2010.

I saw him playing with Adrenaline Mob in Illinois back in 2011...Portnoy eventually bailed on the Mob in 2013. Mike did play one guest show in 2015 as a tribute to A.J. Pero, whom replaced Portnoy in 2013 and died from a massive heart attack on the band's tour bus just two years later. Portnoy also filled in for the fallen drummer playing a tribute show with Twitsed Sister in 2015. It's been announced that he is going to be the full time drummer on Twisted Sister's 2016 Tour, Forty and F**k It.

Below are a couple of snaps I grabbed from that 2011 Godsmack/Mob show...almost no light on the stage for the Mob (basically spot only), so most of those snaps ain't so great.

Portnoy on the sticks for Adrenaline Mob...

...warming up the crowd for Sully Erna, Shannon Larkin and the rest of Godsmack.

If you have seen Godsmack play live in the past few years then you know Shannon and Sully bang out a sweet little drum battle during their live shows...it may be getting a little stale after several years, but it's still good. The double drums are always a crowd favorite for first timers and old timers alike, myself included.

        Cheers

Hi Don! Thanks for sharing this photos, I love it. I have not seen any of them live however. I have only watched one band live way back 2011 and that was Mr. Big.

By the way, have you heard the newest Dream Theater album?

Sounds like the bands both used the same stock photo.

Ok, it's not copying, it's called stock photography. There are probably another 1000 uses of the picture, with the author getting some good money for it. Nothing wrong to see here.
As the creator of the CM artwork... I think this is fun. But I have had a different experience where I happened to use a stock image that someone else had used before me.. and then it was no fun

The truth... unfortunately... is that as an artwork designer you don't get much money for creating a design. The bands don't do much money on their music so I understand them. If I would hire a model, dress him up like that and take the photo myself, well then I would probably have to pay the model more than I would get for the whole job. And that's just one detail of the cover.

This is not the first and not the last time you will see this happen.

Yeah. I also read it through to understand the thread. At first, I thought that DT did copy something from CM, more on the contents of the song context. Glad it was just the album cover which happens to be the artist's knowledge and control.
