Thoughts on Interconnected, Autonomous Vehicles: Part 6 - "There's an App for that!"

So I got to thinking some more about the Skynet-O-Vehicles...

Let's say we are a bit further down the road, as it were.

Maybe we don't have a bunch of self-driving cars yet but more and more vehicles are coming with e-gadget stuff. And... a lot of the vehicles activities can be managed and monitored by an app you have on your smartphone.

Things like:

#Recall notices.
Your app pops up a notice that your vehicle has a recall on a particular part. Your app might even help schedule a trip to the dealer or shop to take care of this notice.

#Service notifications.
Similar to recall notices but could be tailored specifically to your vehicles environment, mileage, your driving habits, etc.

#Manage vehicles movements.
Setup the app so your car can not be started before a certain time, of course with app override. Nobody would be able to steal you car from your driveway overnight unless they towed it.

Or send you an alert if the vehicle is moved (towed?).

#Gas pump.
Your app and vehicle could "talk" to the gas pump as you are fueling to give very accurate numbers of mileage, "miles left", gas prices, etc.

#Cost of operating the vehicle.
Again, VERY accurate numbers regarding fuel, maintenance, and other cost of owning the vehicle. You could have the option of including car payments, insurance payments, etc.

#Weather
Maybe your vehicle and app have communicated with the weather service and let you know that there is not enough anti-freeze to handle the upcoming freeze expected in the next few days.

#Weather - part 2.
Your app and/or vehicle would know (learned from YOUR previous driving conditions) that gas mileage (battery life for electric vehicles) improves in certain conditions.

#Very detailed vehicle history.

Let's say it's time to sell your e-car and you want to post an ad on Craigslist;

"
Car gets 26.3 miles per gallon.
New 60,000 mile tires put on [exact date].
All oil changes have been with synthetic oil.
Recall notice has been serviced by dealer.
Etc.
"

Most of this could be backed up by a CarFax type of service.

Anyhow, just thinking.

If I were you I'd start patenting some of those ideas.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

Thanks Steve. I have thought about getting into app development.

I am glad you are feeling (seeing) better.
