Lamb Of God - Overlord

Hello, Warrior Forum basement dwellers! It's a pretty nice day here in my neck of the woods, and for me, that quite often means cranking the rock and roll up a bit loud for a few hours to get my day started.

On this beautiful spring morning I started my day with one from Lamb of God's latest album - VII: Sturm und Drang. This one is called Overlord and it's quite a departure from the band's usual stuff, but it really hits the spot for me. In 2015, VII: Sturm und Drang reached #3 on the US Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, #2 on the Australian Albums chart (ARIA), and #1 on the Canadian Albums chart (Billboard).

I saw Lamb of God play live last year and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen, maybe the very best metal show. They literally blew Slipknot about 17 miles off of the stage at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater just a few miles outside of Chicago with just good, old fashioned, bone and soul penetrating sound with matching light banks --> no costumes, masks, wild elaborate stagecraft or pyro necessary.

My wife and I are looking forward to seeing LoG play at an massive upcoming festival we are attending in just a few weeks to kick off our 2016 summer concert season. The event is part of AEG Live's World's Loudest Month concert series --> it's gonna be a weekend to remember for a very long time.

"Overlord"

You never proved me anything but right
You're all surprises, consistency, defied
An overwhelming sense of predictability
I don't say we slide into mediocrity

(Another day spent) buried in the shadow of your doubt
(Always the same) but still you refuse to figure out

You will destroy you
Distorted, tore yourself in two
Your will absorbed you
You can't ignore you anymore

A new time of declaration of distress
Strife, misery, and the pursuit of unhappiness
Endless complaining, no accountability
No reek of privilege and weightless tragedy

(Another day) spent buried in the shadow of your doubt
(Always the same) but still you refuse to figure out

You will destroy you
Distorted, tore yourself in two
Your will absorbed you
You can't ignore you anymore

Cry over the silken pillow
Clipped wings beneath a crooked halo
A perfect child who never looks at the mirror
Right in your face, but not any clearer

A problem hidden in plain view
Is staring right back at
You

All the world's a stage
But you are the only player
A black hole in the center of the universe, a dark cloud of despair

Caught in an endless rut
A crisis without solution
Someone should stitch your mouth shut
And solve your ******* problem

Strife
Another day in misery
Always the same
Strife
Another day in misery
Always the same

You will destroy you
Distorted, tore yourself in two
Your will absorbed you
You can't ignore you anymore

Anymore

Get out and support your favorite artists, people!! Enjoy the music, the atmosphere, and the comradery! If you are a music lover and have not yet attended a great live show...you are missing out on some great experiences, you really are.

Cheers

LOL ---> Not a lot of metal fans left in here, evidently!!

Overload was written by LoG's lead singer and frontman, Randy Blythe, and the accompanying music video portrays a guy and a girl so caught up in their own lives --> they miss the important social issues and violence going on around them.

The song was written about the dangers of self-obsession in the me-now/now-me culture. Quoting Randy from a Loudwire interview...

“I wrote the song about the dangers of self-obsession in our distressingly myopic and increasingly entitled ‘me-now/now-me’ culture; just like the couple in the video, many people can’t seem to look past their own relatively small problems to see the bigger picture: the world is in serious trouble. Having a bad day at work, or a fight with your significant other, or getting a crappy haircut or table service does not in any way shape or form constitute an emergency. Sometimes things just don’t work out the way we want them to — deal with it. People who only see their own problems eventually wind up alone because no one wants to hear their crap anymore — we all know someone like that, always whining and complaining about some inconsequential setback as if it were the apocalypse. This song is for those people.”
The name of the album is interesting as well --> VII: Sturm und Drang.

    From Brittanica:

Sturm und Drang, (German: “Storm and Stress”), German literary movement of the late 18th century that exalted nature, feeling, and human individualism and sought to overthrow the Enlightenment cult of Rationalism.

I listen to LOG on Pandora when I'm working out, though I've been listening to a lot of Hatebreed and older Metallica. Great workout music or when I'm driving fast!

Just getting started looking through my pics from the shows on Sat, Sun, and Tuesday night. Here is a long telephoto shot from the back of the Sommerset Amphitheater (2nd stage).

I'm estimating about 15,000+ showed on Saturday (40 degrees and 15 mph wind gusts), and 25,000+ showed on Sunday when the temps were near 70. My numbers could be low as it's difficult to estimate attendance with the venue layout. No official numbers have been released yet, but last year Northern Invasion produced the 3rd or 4th largest summer festival gate on a one day show.

Lamb played on Saturday in the cold...they closed the second stage.

I must say....this 160 acre venue up near Minneapolis - St. Paul is one of the best I have ever been in. Probably one of the very best outdoor venues in the U.S., certainly in the Midwest. The venue includes one very large "natural" amphitheater, a second large "natural" amphitheater, and a third stage at the top of the hill. This is one hell of a great layout for everything involved with a music festival, and the best food I have tasted at a concert too!

    2017 Northen Invasion - I'm there bigtime!!!

    Cheers
