The other day, I posted one of my music videos here. This one was "Welcome
To The Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance.

One of the members here posted that this kind of music "emo" was a bane on
the musical world, which is fine. He's entitled to his opinion of the music. I
certainly don't like all kinds of music. But then he goes on to say that he is
"disappointed" in me for liking this, like this makes me less of a person.

For fricking crying out loud, it's music.

So because I like this song it makes me less of a person?

Go get a fricking life!

I mean am I wrong? It's not like I support terrorism.

Sheesh!

    I agree with ya Steve.
I didn't watch that video, but who cares.
Some of the stuff I listen to makes me wonder sometimes
The only type of music I haven't been able to listen to is opera.
Take the words away and I love it.
So because I like this song it makes me less of a person?
Nope I'd say it makes you a more well rounded person.

I am a head banger from way back - I have worked places where they let everyone listen to THEIR music, but I was told mine was Inappropriate. There are also people who think I am continually stoned and lazy because I listen to it. I have also wondered what the hell is wrong with those people. I like hard driving drums and guitars - but, it seems that I can't go to heaven for that. Apparently if you like hard rock, you are a satanist.
It gets extremely disgusting when you can't listen to your own music yet you can be slammed continually with country, which I hate, and no one seems to think that is wrong. I asked an employer once if we could compromise and listen to classical and he called me unAmerican. Go figure.

I can hang with just about anything. It's lyrics that get to me, though. I can do head-banging drums/guitars....but when it gets into promoting drugs, gangsta, or violence I turn off. I used to be very closed about music, until I started to LISTEN to what was being said. That opened me up quite a bit.

    Hi Steve,

I agree with your comments it's a free world . Just for the record I love Opera & classical music, cannot abide folk, not much country music here (UK), I do enjoy some rock when in the mood. Who says you have to stick to one kind! Any kind of music is good if it makes you feel alive and your soul singing.

Though I don't like opera like I said I agree with your last line 100%.
If you love opera I'm certainly not going to say anything bad about you loving it, I just don't get it is all.

I saw the post... I doubt he seriously thinks anything less of you. I think it was just a matter of him trying to be sarcastic.

People give me sh*t about disco all the time. The hell with 'em. I find my CDs in the dollar bins because of it. Couldn't be happier!

      Hey Michael...Disco sucks

Actually, I loved Ralph Carter's stuff "When You're Young & In Love" and "Extra Extra Read All About It."

I also liked the Trammps and Sons Of Robin Stone.

Maybe I can find that at YouTube.

But the Hustle? How was that freakin the #1 song of the year?

Don't worry about the haters Steven, maybe that person was raised not to enjoy music but to analyze people who love different genres. In my opinion, that person is just lame and myopic. Who in his or her right frame of mind would make sweeping generalizations about other people listening to a particular music? It's like saying everyone who listens to Bob Marley is a stoner? Or when you listen to Paul Van Dyk, you do the group hugs and drop E? Or maybe Amy Winehouse songs make you wanna grab a needle. Now that's a drag and it's pathetic! That somebody needs a hug.

Yea, the Hustle never did it for me, either...

I'm more of a fan of the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, KISS (yes, they did have a disco album), KC and the Sundshine Band, etc. It's just great music.

        Alright, I know you're laughing.

AS much as I don't really like disco I ain't laffin.
I saw the Bee Gees in concert and this was the first tune I heard by them.
When I lived in FL. in the early and mid 70's the Bee Gees where well know for paying their musicians scale and treating them like crap
          I liked Donna Summers myself.
I remember the Kiss disco album
KC was played way to much on the radio which after awhile made them tough to listen to especially this song.
I used to cringe when I would walk into my favorite bar and it was playing.
One night a buddy and I walked in and it was playing so he shot the jukebox
It wasn't so much that disco sucked, more a case of a lot of it being over played and played in the wrong places.
You don't do disco in a redneck country bar

          Alright, I know you're laughing.
I actually liked quite a lot of the Bee Gees post "mellow" era of "New York Mining Disaster", "Holiday", "First Of May" and so on.

I loved "Nights On Broadway" and "More Than A Woman" among others.

See, I'm more rounded than you knew.

As for Donna Summer, loved "Last Dance". Probably one of my favorite
disco songs ever. KC was okay but not my favorite.

Thom, I have an open enough mind that I can listen to just about anything.
You should hear some of the stuff that my daughter plays for me.

I try to listen to most music as a musician and get something out of

            I've played drums since I was 10.
I started listening to rap (Cyprus Hill) before my kids did which really annoyed my oldest one.
No matter what music video you post I always end up at YouTube to see if I can top it and end up going on another musical journey.
In fact I was just listening to your Turtle vid and went to YT where I started with Flo and Eddie and ended up listening to the Blues Magoos.
Listened to some Nashville Teens, We Five , and a bunch more in the middle.
Now I really have to get some work done so I can go for a ride.

I never heard that Bee Gees tune... and I'm a little surprised to hear about them treating their musicians poorly. They all seemed like a good bunch of fellas, at least in interviews.

Heck, even I'm bored to tears over that KC song. It's a classic, but it needs to be buried.

I know this has turned into a music discussion thread, but your title, Steven, is about self-righteous people cracking you up. Yes, their actions and attitudes can be humorous, but also very harming to you! My husband and I seem to attract these kind of people, or maybe it's that self righteousness is becoming the norm these days.

Self righteous attitudes, it appears, seem to give people the permission to invade your life in the attempt to change you into how they feel you should live your life. It is very frightening.

If you have never personally encountered someone like this, count your blessings! They can make your life a nightmare!

I love MCR's Welcome To The Black Parade. I found it on my son's iPod a few years ago when it first came out. And I must have listened to it a dozen times that day. He was really annoyed that I liked it so much - lol.

But that Bee Gees song you posted above - - actually reminded me of it. They sound similar in my mind.

Do you guys have ANY idea how popular opera is? Like "ride of the valkyries"?

Gee, ride of the valkyries was written by wagner in the 19th century, and is still VERY popular for almost anything considering a group getting revenge or attacking en masse.

    or how about Les Toréadors?

gee, would theater be the same without such songs?
