Paypal debit card issue.

mistake on title of previous post. NOt able to edit that so starting over. Sorry.

Since we all rely on our paypal card at one time or another i have a very peculiar issue that hopefully is affecting SOMEONE out there because the more i get deeper into the issue, the madder i become.

for years i have been using my paypal card at the atm and the pos at the grocery store.

Three weeks ago, the local Bank of America stopped recognizing the card. It says cannot recognize this account. Then the contagion spread and it is now every ATM. Some say bad account number, some say cannot read this transaction and yes I replaced the card with a brand new one and i put it in the machine right after i activated it and still no.

I have called paypal and they tell me this has never happened to anyone before. I checked with Bank of America. They still accept Mastercard and all the networks paypal is associated with.

i cannot change the number on the card because it would close the card and i need it at the POS (grocery store) where it is still working for me, and transfering directly to bank is not an option as it is 3 days to transfer, nor is running to Walmart and asking for cash back three or four times a day as paypal suggested an option.

If anyone has had this happen please let me know and I can either fix it or alert paypal.

Thank you for your assistance

The OP states he already called PayPal.

I have had their debit card for 4 years now and never experienced an issue like this.

It doesn't seem to be on PayPal's end.

Something that comes to mind is whether or not you have to maintain a minimum balance in your PP account in order for the card to work. PP often requires this of relatively new debit card holders and people who have new PP accounts in general. Also, if you have let your PP account go into a negative balance in the past, they may decide to impose a minimum balance hold on your account.

If this is the case and your account balance is under that amount the card would not work. As for the different "declined" messages that you get, I have found that different ATMs and companies give different messages that all usually mean the same thing -- the transaction has been denied due to lack of funds, or in this case, maybe not having enough funds in the account.

If it continues, I'm afraid you would have no choice but to have them issue a brand new card with different numbers. I don't mean another card with the same account numbers as the one you already have, I mean a whole new debit card number. Something in there is not jiving very well with ATMs and POS computers, and in the long run it makes a whole lot more sense to get a brand new card than to have to deal with all of that.

If you can transfer funds from PayPal to your bank, just transfer enough money so that you can live on that while you wait for your new card to be processed and sent to you. I believe it takes 2-3 weeks from the time you request it until it arrives.

At any rate, it sounds like a huge inconvenience and I hope you can get it resolved soon.

    Thank you niche blogger

First yes, I had enough in my account as I said i can buy groceries with it, i cant even do a balance inquiry so that is not the issue. I had 400 in my paypal and the ATMS couldnt even tell me that.

i will see if i can open a new paypal account with the same bank account, rather than simply changing the number. The work that pays me often pays me on the date that bills are due like rent, so transfering in advance is not an option.

I will have to have them send me a WU money order instead and just hope the supermarkets have enough money to pay it.

You can only have a bank account associated with one paypal account. And, I do not think you can have 2 paypal accounts, but I am not exactly sure on that.

Paypal allows 2 accounts, just not 2 of the same accounts.

    @blueonblue

Not sure what's up. My Paypal debit card has been working the same way for well over a decade. They did just shut off my wife's debit/smart connect card and replaced it with with a Paypal Extra's Mastercard. For a short while, both of her cards were inactive, but I believe that was due to a delay in activating the new card.

    Good luck.

The problem was on my end and theirs.
They removed the function to check balance on ATM. only have a computer no smart phone so could not check.
if i dont know how much i have not going to try to remove money.

They dont even have info on their TOS or on website that they know longer support balance functions on atm only on apps.

And when i mentioned that to customer service that I didnt think it right, they were nasty in their reply. Use an app. Goodbye!
