Lol. Robert, I thought he would stay with OKC for another year at least up until the last few days. Once I read this week about some Warrior players recruiting Durant all year and then thinking about how the owners have been very persuasive when going after people they want ( Kerr, Iguodala ) I thought they had a much better chance. Then I read that the Logo talked to him by phone and spelled out exactly why he should pick the Warriors I almost would have been shocked if he didn't sign with them. It really does make sense. Their defense is going to be awesome and their offense.... damn!

The based God took his curse off of Durant also. lol

    Tim,
you're Misery that you experienced two weeks ago was a blessing in disguise. No way KD goes to Dubs if they win this past year.
His ego is too big to join a team who is on their way building a dynasty with two in a row. He would feel like he would be just riding Curry's and Thompson's coat tails. It would really seem cheesy lol

With the Warriors loss he feels like he can come and round out the team to get back on track to Dynasty mode.

My oh my how things in Life can change so quickly. Warrior nation down and out just week before last. now turns to celebration and a lot of Hope and the potential for an incredible scenario i.e. Curry, Thompson, Green, Durant in the starting rotation.

    Not Fair

    I'm protesting lol

Not fair perhaps but the right decision for Durant. He really fits in great with the way he plays and will make for a huge improvement over Barnes, who I think is a terrific talent. I just wish the Warriors could find a way to keep Bogut.

You are right about losing the finals helped make the decision easier for Durant but I wonder if he would have done the same thing anyways. Hell, he is already getting criticized big time for this decision.

I think his injuries the past few years make it a good decision also and the fact that Westbrook was likely leaving after next year anyways.

Hey, the Spurs added a superstar also last year. Not quite on Durant's level but one of the best for sure. Now the Spurs might get Gasol which would be very interesting.

I'll be the dissenter here...I'm not sold on "all star" teams. Personally, I don't think you mess with a team that won 73 games. I would do everything to keep them together.

About a year after my Nuggets entered the NBA, they had a starting lineup of:
    Dan Issel
    George McGinnis
    Charley Scott
    David Thompson

It doesn't get much more talented than that. However, that team only won 48 games that year, quite a few games less than in the previous few seasons.

How many titles did Houston win with Akeem, Drexler and Barkley?

I'm not saying the Dubs won't win it all next year, they may. However, I would have made them the favorites without Durant. Again, I just don't think you mess with the chemistry of a 73 win team. But that's probably why Jerry West is "The Logo" and I'm not.

The positive from this is more addition by subtraction in that signing Durant severely weakened OKC, which took the Dubs to the wire last season. There's now one less team in the West to contend with.

I hear ya, Kurt. The chemistry of a team is super important. That was the big reason I was against trading Klay for Love two years ago. I really hate to lose Bogut and Barnes but it's worth the risk for Durant. He seems to be a perfect fit for them offensively, defensively and also personality wise.

Durant says he wants to improve as a player. Well, he will be in the perfect environment for that. It's a scary thought to think he. Curry, Green and Thompson can all get better.

"2016-2017 NBA Thread Starts NOW"? Or should it be "2016-2017 NBA Thread Ends NOW?

As a Cavs fan, I'm very, very, very afraid. Heck, I already was very, very, very afraid -- now I'm just ready to hide under my covers.

That said, Kurt is right, chemistry is huge. And having watched Kevin Love struggle to find his place in Cleveland amongst two other stars, I have no doubt that Durant (and the rest of the Warriors) will have a period of adjustment. Still, even if Durant doesn't score a point, he's an asset on defense in a way that Love is only starting to become. And regardless... he's just soooooooo goooooood.

I guess the good news is that now that OKC is toast and now that other teams in the East looking to make some big improvements over the offseason (I'm looking at you Boston and Toronto!), maybe we'll start getting some love and attention on this side of the Mississippi. Of course, it also helps that the defending champs play in the East.

Still... I don't remember ever seeing a defending champion that's as good as the Cavs have the odds stacked so much against them before the season even started. And that's 100% due to the already amazing talent of the Golden State Warriors and this monster signing. That said, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and GM David Griffen have shown they're willing to get creative (and spend the money!) to stay competititve, so I wouldn't be surprised to see headlines about a blockbuster trade for the Cavs when the trade deadline rolls around in 2017. Mo Williams for Stephen Curry? Yeah, that seems fair to me!

    Chemistry blemistry

First of all the splash brothers are your core offensively. Bet you they are grinning ear to ear. They have a player that the defense has to collapse in on and even double team INSIDE the arc. All Durant has to do is kick out and your chemistry is alive and well. Outside game is complemented by inside game. Without needing to chuck within a millisecond they can take open threes with time.

2nd Durant is not going to GS to be THE man.. Hes going to pick up a ring while he is still in his prime on a team that won it all last year without him, took Durant out this year and came within one game of winning it all again this year.

the only one really affected is green who will have less to do with offense.

this is a NO BRAINER and no doubt Lebron is working the phones trying to see who he can get to come over to Cleveland because one thing is skippy. Put Durant on the GS team that just had spurts where the threes were not falling and there is NO WAY you come back to beat them when they are up 3-1. This compliments more than people think. Outside shooting opens up lanes and driving lanes pulls the defense off the perimeter.

this isn't even like Miami with the big three. this is a team that won it all before the defection. If you want to do a comparison see how badly Birds Celtics would have done if they added Jordan or the show time lakers if they did the same and thats even with Jordan's lousy personality

    They'll be just fine.

It's interesting, Mike, that a 6'11" guy will be the Dubs best driver to the rim offensively. However, Curry has improved dramatically in that department the last few years and Green and Klay have also. The Warriors struggled in the playoffs because Curry wasn't 100%. I think Durant realized this also.

The Warriors could just start F'ing with people and put Durant at point guard for large periods of the game. The thing is, how do you guard against such a versatile offense? Green led the Warriors in assists with Curry right behind. Now you got another big who can drive and dish.

One interesting statistic I saw the past day or so was that the Thunder were last in the league is passes per game last year. The Warriors were last in the league in Mark Jackson's last year as coach. Now they lead the league in assists. I'm sure this was pointed out to Durant also. Passing the ball between unselfish players will only make his job easier and make him even more efficient. I wouldn't be surprised if Durant has his best season ever next year.

Let it go my man. Give credit where its due. I know that was a bitter pill to swallow after being up 3-1 and almost scheduling the parade but Curry moved around the court just fine and at that point in the season there are always players on a team with a sore this or sore that. Theres no asterisk besides Cleveland's win although again I get why every one in Dubs world wants there to be.Durant joined the GS to put them waaay over the top to get a ring not because he figured he wouldn't be needed.

The thing is, how do you guard against such a versatile offense?
You can't. You've now got the ultimate inside outside game which is why all the chemistry talk is off. By mid season it will all work out as there really is no question the dubs will win enough to reach the playoffs. This is better than the oldish center post up and dish at the double team. Durant can break an offense down take it to the hoop and then dish. You could see the old Shaq posting up and dishing out coming from a mile away. You don't know when durant will take it all the way because a drive takes less time that the old school post up back to the basket

Freaking fantastic pickup and even better is that at this point theres no one in free agency left that can truly counter the move. Wade to Cleveland would have been an interesting counter but only a few years ago before Wade had a history of injuries.

If theres any bad news this might be a one time deal. Basically it a one year contract with a player option for the second.

I'm just saying that it may have had something to do with Durant's decision to leave. I think he realizes that the Warriors are going to be a very tough team to beat for many years and perhaps he thought this last year was the best shot the Thunder were going to have.

The decision to leave also makes you wonder if there was some problems within the Thunder team that haven't really come out yet. Did he and Westbrook really get along as well as they said they did? Was there a resentment for the Thunder not keeping Harden? Was he still upset about the team firing Scott Brooks? Did he not like the offensive scheme the Thunder played?

I've seen the speculation but thats all it is - Curry has faded in playoffs past as well from time to time so its just too convenient to put it all down to injury because he faded again. After Cleveland coming back from 3-1 and OKC themselves taking them to 7 no one was really afraid of GS anymore as unbeatable even with a totally healthy Curry. If Curry was out or limping or something dramatic perhaps - but Curry was up and down that court and even had some cuts thats shows at best the injury was slight. thats why this move was great - Now the fear of GS is back.

What Kurt said has more credibility to me - Who knows what Westbrook does and whats being forgotten is the team was already changing - Ibaka had been traded.

Honestly if Cleveland had the cash he probably would have considered going there. Lebron is probably the one that inspired him with his move to Miami to get a ring and coming back later. Agreeing to one year and having an option totally your own to pick up or leave for the 2nd says -just want a ring anywhere I have thebest shot and can afford me - pretty clear.

Actually would not be surprised to see Durant in OKC jersey in two or three years.

I'm blown away by Durant going to Tim's Warriors. Now, no one has any chance of stopping them from coming out of the west for the 3rd year in a row - unless they get decimated by injuries.

The Nuggets are making a strong push for Dwyane Wade. Rumors are we're offering him more money than anyone else.

I have mixed feelings about this. We already have 5 young 6'4"-6'5" players with potential. They really need minutes to develop.

On the other hand, the Nuggets were last in attendance last year. Wade will bring local and national interest. He could also possibly attract another veteran free agent or two and show the other players that it's OK to come to Denver.

Because of all the young players we already have at that position, I probably wouldn't do it myself, but I can see why the front office wants to...

Wade said two days ago when discussing the Durant left OKC, "relationships are important, people". Pat Riley looks bad here imo and that not good for their future.

Wade was partly referring to the friendship Durant has had with Curry and Iguodala since 2010 but also, perhaps, he was eluding to the problems with Riley.

What are you talking about?? He's washed up, injured etc..etc..

He is delusional if he thinks he is worth anything close to what he is asking.

Lol.....how can he be delusional when he signed for just about 25 million dollars. You got to keep up......scrubs are signing for 10 mil. Cap money is blowing up the next few years. His stats last year were anything but washed up but I grant any team signing him is taking a risk he gets injured again (he is not injured now but has a history)

It's ashame "dead horses" do not respectfully just bow out and go to the pasture where they belong.
Nah Wade's case is different. Riley likes to talk loyalty and on the basis of that Wade took cuts to what he could have commanded over the years - its claimed somewhere around 25 million dollars with the understanding later they would take care of him. If you don't have some roots in South Florida you wouldn't know why he is upset.

and yeah I know what I am talking about - Wade is without a doubt the most beloved athlete in South Florida. Many people thought he would never leave and he would not have if not for the pay cuts he took earlier.

Heat are going to take a hit that will probably cost them more than the third year Wade wanted. They've pulled off a lot of free gent signings based on that loyalty we will always make it back up to you speech.

still a lot of money? yeah but Arison wasn't going to miss it. his net worth is about 7 Billion.

Now the Spurs? yeah those bums should go out to pasture on some farm in the middle of nowhere with Pop. Pack up the rest of the orgnanization send them up to Seattle and bring back the Sonics.

I have to look at the bright side of things with Wade signing with Chicago. The good news is, Jimmer Fredette is playing on the Nuggets summer league team. /sarcasm

I have a feeling it's going to be another long season.

The good news is, we should have close to $60 million in cap space next year, when there's supposed to be a number of quality free agents. In defense of the Nuggets front office, this has been their game plan for a while. The unexpected possibility of getting Wade kind of threw a wrench into these plans.

BTW, did I ever mention the Broncos won the Super Bowl?

More info coming in on Durant's decision. One source says Durant felt the Thunder had plateaued and that there was a concern about the offense relying on hero ball, isolation plays and contested shots. Kind of goes along with what I was thinking earlier about how the team was last in the league in passing.

Publicly, Durant has always insisted that he loves playing with Russ and that there's nothing to the whispers about their on-court chemistry issues, but the Thunder's collapse in the Western Conference Finals last month after taking a 3-1 series lead may have been the breaking point. It seemed to be characterized by a reversion to hero-ball and all-around sloppy play, two of the main criticisms often levied at Westbrook.

Little bit different from Kobe's retirement tour. lol Yep, typical Duncan. It will be weird seeing the Spurs play without Duncan. What a great player. One of three players to win over 1000 games in the regular season.

Anyone watching the summer league? I caught parts of a few games. That Simmons kid does look special. He's one hell of a passer and seems to have a very high bb iq. Kriss Dunn looks like a point guard ready to start for the Timberwolves. He would have to take the job from Rubio but that just may happen. The Timberwolves are going to be tough. The Suns' Devin Booker looked great in the second half of last year and he is continuing to look that way in this summer league. He is going to be an all star. I'm looking forward to the Warriors playing the Lakers tonight and seeing Ingram. The Warriors second round pick Patrick McCaw looked impressive in his first game.

Nate the Great died yesterday. He was one of my favorites growing up. He also was very visable working for the Warriors for decades after his playing days.

Yeah, Commissioner Adam Silver is not too excited about it. A lot of people outside GS including Silver thinks it really takes away from the Game ( with the building of Superteams).

I guess it reminds people too much of Steinbrenner and the Yankees.

OK, season starts tonight with three games including my Warriors against Robert's Duncanless Spurs. How will Pops do without Duncan? I hear the Spurs may be looking to trade Aldridge already after just one year! Very surprising if true. The Warriors defense in the pre-season looked like it missed Bogut, but I expect it will come together in the regular season. Durant and Klay looked awesome in the pre-season. :p They also have a second round rookie McCaw who looks like one of the steals in the draft. He should be in the rotation which is rare for a 2nd rounder playing on a finals team.

The Cavs play the Knicks first. Rose thinks the Knicks are a super team also but I think they are going to struggle through a tough season again, just slightly better than last year.

Right now, my Nuggets are in first place, tied for the best record in the NBA.

Actually, we'll probably have a slow start playing 6 of our first 7 on the road, then game 8 is against the Golden State Tims. I wish we had more home games early to help us get off to a good start. I think this is especially important for young teams.

It looks like we'll begin with a big lineup with both Nurkic and Jovic starting. Jovic came in 3rd in the rookie of the year last season and some of the metrics people say he should have won. Nurkic was hurt most of the last year, but the year before in his rookie season he was the only Nugget with a positive +/-.

Now we just need to figure out how to tie Curry's shoestrings together and slip Durant a roofie without them knowing it.

I guess nobody told my Spurs that they were going up against an unstoppable
    Super Team LOL

Really impressive and who would have thought the results of tonight. Spurs defense is second to none

Of course it is the first game and I think the Warriors in a couple of months will be gelling much much better and still the team to beat. No question

But I think the Spurs made a HUGE statement in that even though the odds are hugely in favor for the Dubs to win it all... they are going to have a thorn in their side to contend with called San Antonio

Well, according to Kenny the Jet they will win 77 games this year with 5 losses. So they can only lose
      4 more games

Seriously though. Once they get the cogs in line I they they are going to be hard to beat.

      Really

The only thing I see is the Defense is far behind their offense power. Not that their defense is bad but it might be their Achilles heals in trying to attain ultimate Greatness. Losing a few of those guys including Bogut probably hurt in that regard.

But they still have Green who is right there with Leonard. And they will continue only to get better

I'd but good money on loss number 6. Westbrook bought a very expensive Voodoo doll which he has already covered in needles. He plans to remove all of them come playoffs to take even more air out of D's shot.

On the bright side Tim - might be a good thing. An early loss tends to dampen the regular season record chasing.

Last night, for the first time this year, I felt the Warriors played up to their level of last years regular season team and that was just for one quarter. In the second quarter their defense played great and that part of their game has been lacking this year. They held Toronto to 15 points. Now, if they can just build on that and be more consistent.

There's been some surprises so far this year: Derozen is leading the league in scoring. Atlanta is playing really well with the addition of Dwight Howard. The Lakers are playing well. I thought Walton would do well with them but 7 wins already?!

Manhandled? lol. What do you call what the Dubs did to the Lakers Wednesday then?

The Warriors have had 30 or more assists in 9 straight games, the longest streak since the record of 13 games by Charlotte in 1989. They have had 30 or more in 11 of their 15 games so far, with no other team having more than 3 30 assist games. 15 teams haven't done it once so far this year. The warriors had a team record of 47 assists against the Lakers. The way they are going now, they have a shot of beating the showtime Lakers record for assists in a season.

Wednesday was also a day when Cleveland scored 137 points, with Kevin Love scoring 34 in the first quarter.

Spurs playing in Boston tonight, which may be the game of the day. I'm predicting a Boston win.

Some upsets last night as the Spurs ( at home again. What's up with dat Robert? ), Cavs and Clippers all lose. The Lakers too. JR Smith is still an oddball. During the game he went over to the sidelines to greet Jason Terry and his man dunked. lol

Westbrook is averaging a triple double so far. His rebounding is what really amazes me. He's the only guard in the top 30 in rebounds.

I'm more of a glass half full kind of guy...JR didn't let Jason Terry score, did he?

I may be more frustrated with this Nuggets team than any other I've ever watched. We've blown 3-4 games with big late leads, like 8 points with 1 minute left and 12 with something like 3 minutes left.

I'd like to blame it on youth, but we had the vets in when the leads were blown. I'm really struggling to stay interested this year. (I'm typing this while I watch the start of the Nuggets v. Miami game)

That was a close game until the end.

Westbrook had another big game with a triple double last night: 35 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. However, he shot just 12 of 35 ( just over 33% ) and was only 1 for 6 from three. It's not like he has to shoot that much, either. He had 7 team mates who shot 50% or better last night, going 31 for 48! I didn't watch that game but it seems from the stats that Westbrook maybe made the game closer than it should have been. It took OKC an over time to beat the Wizards.

Clippers at Cleveland tonight. That will be a good game because I don't like either team and one of them will lose.

The Warriors still haven't jelled, losing last night for the second time this year to Memphis, blowing a 24 point lead. They are not playing well at all at the end of games. Seems to be a continuation of the Finals. Last night Durant went iso at the end of the game and missed a 3 pointer. Draymond was pissed and let Durant know it.

One team I have liked ever since last year, when the ended the Warriors longest end streak, is Milwalkee. Their defense is one of the best in the league and their offense is improving. Young talented team. They play the good teams well, including the Cavs. I want to see someone really challenge the Cavs this year in the playoffs. Who knows, maybe it will be the Bucks. Jalen Rose last night actually said they might be the 4th best team in the league. I don't know about that, but they are getting up their.

Another surprise team is Houston. Who would have thought D'Antoni could make the Rockets such a better team? I was frankly shocked he got another coaching job after his last couple of stints.

"Hopefully they can get Grayson Allen and Draymond Green to have a kick boxing match too." haha Grayson must be working out with Draymond in the off season. He's got his kicking moves down except he doesn't go after the bolas.

My only satisfaction this year is Melo and the Knicks.

BTW, I thought we should have hired D'Antoni instead of Malone. D'Antoni's style would have been perfect in Denver's Mile High air.

Kover is a great addition to the Cavs. He's a great 3 point shooter and isn't the bonehead JR is and is just the type of player they need. Not good news for Spurs/Ws fans.

Barkley is a dummy. Durant is a very underrated defensive player, something nobody ever said about Barkley.

The Spurs could beat the Warriors. So could the Cavs, although not right now. If the playoffs happened now, the warriors would sweep the Cavs and probably go seven games with the Spurs. Whoever ends up with home court should win that series. If the Spurs make it to the Conference finals that is. :0

By the way, here's the top 10 in defensive rating this year:

        1. Rudy Gobert • UTA 97.8

        3. Draymond Green • GSW 99.1

        5. Kevin Durant • GSW 100.5
        6. Anthony Davis • NOP 100.6

        8. DeAndre Jordan • LAC 100.8

Nuggets still tied for best record in the NBA by beating the Pels. Anthony Davis had a great stat line:
    50 pts
    16 rebs
    7 steals
    5 assists
    4 blocks (I think)

...but was still -3 in the +/-.

Yeah, that's the most over rated stat there is imo.

I watched the Sixers and OKC game last night and was impressed with Joel Embiid. That guy is a very talented big man, maybe up there with Towns. When they get Simmons back and perhaps Noel ( he may be traded ) that team will be tough. By the way, I read one rumor that says the Warriors are looking to get either Noel or Okafor from the Sixers.

Nuggets 1st round pick Jamal Murray is yet to hit a FG. He's 0 for 16 in his first 4 pro games, which has to be close to a record for most shots missed to start a career. I think he'll be OK, but it has to be frustrating for him.

I don't mean to brag, but I can miss 16 straight shots too and I'll do it for a lot less money.

He is a funny dude. A few games ago the Warriors had a fast break and Curry was wide open at the three point line. Durant passed it and McGee thought it was for him, reached back and deflected it out of bounds. Ooops. I'm glad the Warriors picked him up though because he does have talent and is playing well. He's also a good guy like you said, Kurt. He's already involved in the community.

By the way, Klay had 60 last night in just three quarters! When he's hot, he's really hard to stop.

Michael Malone is a good guy, but I'm at the point where I'm wondering if he's a good coach...At least I can look forward to the Kenyon Martin/Tim Thomas boxing match. Hopefully they can get Grayson Allen and Draymond Green to have a kick boxing match too.

The bright spot for the Nuggets is Nikola Jokic. This kid is going to be an all star. He started off the season slowly, mostly due to being moved to the 4. Then he was on the bench behind Nurkic.

Finally, he was moved to starting Center...here's his stats since:

For all of the things Jokic can do passing, he has also been a prolific scorer. He scored a career-high 30 points against Orlando, and over the last 19 games he has recorded 12 double-doubles — six of them 20/10 games — and is averaging 18.1 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists. He’s shooting 64 percent from the field, 46 percent from the 3-point line and 82 percent from the free-throw line.

Plus he's the best passer on the team and Isaiah Thomas (the original) jokingly called him "Magic". He was actually a point guard when he was younger until he had a growth spurt. He's a 7 footer with point guard skills.

He's had foul trouble, which has cut down on his minutes or his stats would probably be even better.

Jokic looks great. I've seen him play a few really good games. An all around player. Last year you mentioned a big rookie you said looked promising. Was that nurkic or Jokic?

Jokic was last year...I liked Nurkic the year before.

I still like Nurkic, but he also plays center and Jokic is the better player. Jokic has a chance of being the star player we need. We're starting to run our O through Jokic and it's making us a lot better. Other players cut and move a lot more know, knowing Jokic will get them the ball.

Westbrook did a Shaq ting a fool sure winner last night. After a Warriors bucket his teammate in bounded the ball to him and he just started walking while holding it. He took about 5 steps before the ref called traveling. Lol I'll look for a video of it.

For the first time this year I feel the Warriors are playing at last year's level. Defensively they are really coming together. #1 in opponents field goal %, 3 point %, blocks, steals, and up there in rebounds...

The Warriors d doesn't get talked about much, but it's as impressive as the offense. Maybe more. They lost some when Bogut left, but Durant is a major addition to the team defense. He really should make all defense team this year.

The offense is jelling also. I think a good sized win streak is coming.

I read something recently about how the current crop of nba stars is at such a high level. I agree. The top 20 or so players, collectively, may be the highest quality in history. Especially with some of the newest players. Great talent. The Greek freak is a perfect example. Embiid is another.

It's so hard to compare players of different eras. Centers don't really exist today. How do you compare Embiid with Kareem?

Also, players in the 70-80s had more rounded games, the mid-range game also doesn't exist today. And with the rules banning hand-checking makes it even harder to compare. How would today's guards do against Walt Frazier hand checking them all over the court?

Other rule changes include traveling and palming the ball. When we played we couldn't get away with 1/10th of what they do today. If our hand was slightly on the side of the ball when we dribbled, we'd get called for "turning the ball over".

I think the players may be more talented today, but they are less skilled. I see very few players today that even know how to "roll" correctly on the pick and roll. They turn away from the ball instead of pivoting on their foot closest to the hoop, pinning the defender on their hip while keeping their eye on the ball at all times.

I still think Wilt was the most talented player ever. He was a 7 footer that may well have become a world class high-hurdler. He once blocked something like 6-7 of Kareem's skyhooks in a single game. I can't see anyone today being able to do that.

Funny you asked how Embiid compares to Kareem. I saw this stat the other day:

I agree it's hard to compare different eras. Wilt and Kareem would dominate today I believe. Heck, Nate Thurmond would still be great in today's game. I'm just saying there's a lot of talent now.

By the way, I think if the 76ers can get into the playoffs and Simmons is healthy, they could do some damage in the East. I have a feeling this might be the year Lebron doesn't make it to the finals. Maybe just wishful thinking.

The center position has really changed...In the 70s in addition to Wilt, Kareem, Nate, you also had Lanier, Issle, Cowans, Walton, Gilmore, Moses Malone, Unseld, Willis Reed, Jack Sikma, Bob MacAdoo. I don't think today's centers compare to that group.

Again, it's so hard to compare generations. I see a few different "eras" for guards.

                        1. Had no 3 pointer. Players like Jerry West didn't have the 3 point line.

                        2. First generation 3 pointers. These would be the ABA guys and the NBA right after the merger. These guys had the 3, but didn't grow up with it. And it was really a desperation shot when trailing at the end of the game, rather than a major strategy.

                        3. Second generation. These guys had the 3 in the pros, and also had it in their high school and college careers.

                        4. Third generation. They had the 3 all through out their careers, including in high school, but also watched players shoot the 3 throughout their careers. This includes players like Curry, who not only grew up with the 3, but also grew up watching players like his dad shoot the 3.

I wonder what players like Jerry West, Pete Maravich and even someone like Down Town Freddie Brown would have been if not only they had the 3, but grew up with it in their high school days?

The game has changed so much...Would Maurice Lucas be a stretch 4 today? LOL

Lol. I love seeing the cavs struggle. Lebron likes to throw his teammates under the bus when they lose it seems. I wish one eastern team can step up this year and beat them in the playoffs. I just don't see Toronto being that team though.

I hope it's not too bad. He's number one in the league in offensive rating:

      1. Nikola Jokic DEN 128.5
      2. Otto Porter WAS 128.2
      3. Rudy Gobert UTA 127.2

Actually, it was 29 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. I hope his injury isn't serious, he's really the only bright spot we've had in the last 3-4 years and he plays the right way. Plus, he's kind of goofy off the court, in a good way.

Lot of similarities between Tim Duncan and Tom Brady

      Duncan
      Seasons - 19
      Championships- 5
      Wining PCT.- .791
      Reg. Season MVP- 2
      1st & last Championship
      Span - 15

      Brady
      Seasons- 17
      Championships -5
      Winning PCT.- .776
      Reg. Season MVP- 2
      1st & last Championship
      Span- 15

Only difference is Duncan is obviously not the greatest NBA player of All time. Whereas Brady is , imo, the greatest NFL player of all time

The Cavs vs Bullets game was terrific tonight. Probably the best eastern game I've seen since last year's playoffs at least. The Bullets are playing really well lately. Lebron looked finals intense ( maybe inspired by Brady? ). I remember thinking about a year ago that Lebron looked like he had slowed down some, but after last year's finals and games like tonight, I don't think so.

There's still talk of Carmelo being traded to the Cavs for Love. I'm all for that really, because I think it would hurt the Cavs.

Jackson is the ultimate front runner. It's a lot easier to coach a team to championships when you always have the best player in the NBA...Jordan with the Bulls and Shaq (and Kobe) with the Lakers. I think we're now seeing how good he really is at building a team of his own.

Yeah...we have some good young players, and two 1st rounders next year.

I would have put Gary Harris above both Nurkic and Mudiay. Harris plays great perimeter D and actually plays Steph really well.

The other Nugget to watch is Jamal Murray. He has the potential to be an all star. Reminds me of a bigger, more athletic Steph. He's had issues with consistency shooting this year, but he's still very young and can get his shot off whenever he wants. And he's got some point guard skills too.

And Jokic better be listed above Porzingas.

So Love had knee surgery and will be out at least six weeks which will be about two weeks before the playoffs. Maybe the Cavs should have traded him for Melo after all. Love is injury prone.

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle thinks the Celtics have a good chance to make it to the finals this year. Currently, they trail the Cavs by just 2 games. "The Celtics have got a legitimate chance to get to the Finals with that team out of the East," Carlisle said. "It's a very, very good basketball team. ... Their ability to score is elite and they have great depth. They have a lot of guys that have gained experience. I just see them as a real threat."

I think Washington could give the Cavs a good run for their money also. Maybe even Toronto since they just added Ibaka via trade.

Watched the second half of the Cleveland vs Indiana game. The best part is they had Bill Walton and Dick Vitale as commentators and Bill out talked Dick by a wide margin. Bill is the best. A national treasure!

Kurt, Walton was asked about trading for Carmelo and he said that he hopes any of the teams that he likes, and he names 5 or 6, don't trade to get Anthony. Asked why, he said because he likes winning. Boom. Lol

LOL...What team would Carmelo help that he's waive his no-trade clause to go to?

Watching Nuggets...Plumlee started and looked OK, made a couple of plays.

I think he's a good fit for the Nuggets team, to go along with their young stars.

The Knicks should have traded Anthony already. They waited too long. What a train wreck.

Or...Put Melo on the Dubs to balance out the team.

If I were the Knicks I'd trade Melo for anything I could get back, just to get rid of his salary. I just can't think of a team that should pick him up at his salary.

That was one of the teams Walton didnt want to see Anthony traded to. I dont think Carmelo would like coming off the bench and playing 15 minutes a game either.

Why the change? I wasn't feeling very confident about the Warriors winning it all after KD got hurt and both Curry and Thompson went into a slump, but now they are gelling again. Actually, I think they are now playing as well as they have all year, even without Durant. In fact, that injury may have helped them by forcing other players to step up. Iguodala is playing terrific ball and some of the bench is picking it up.

Because my Nuggets beat both your Ws and the Cavs and we can't hang with the Spurs. Isn't it obvious? LOL

BTW, I only lowered the odds for the Ws from 30 to 28%...It's tougher for both the Spurs and Ws because they probably have to play each other before reaching the finals, while the Cavs don't have as much competition as I'm not really sold on Boston (and we beat them too).

Now I'm REALLY not sold on Boston.

If this keeps up, they may be the worst #1 seed in history.

Appreciate the shout out but I agree with Tim, Warriors are gelling just at the right time.

You guys are more than welcome to add your own odds. I've done pretty well in the past on this forum with my predictions...

The Ws have won 5 straight, other than OKC none of the teams they beat recently were very good. We should get a better feel for them after their next 5.

BTW, my Nuggets are the only team in the NBA this year to beat both the Cavs and the Ws by 10 or more points...we're gellin' too! LOL

6 games now after a kind of lackluster win last night. Yes, not the toughest schedule but the Bucks are playing pretty well now and had won 8 of 9 when the Dubs played them. ( I know, the Nuggets beat them easily also. ). The Warriors next 6 games are tough: Memphis, Houston, Spurs, Houston, Washington and Minnesota ( They beat the Warriors the last game ).

                    we're gellin' too! LOL
You guys really are looking good.

Hey, have you guys been listening to this Lavar Ball dude, the dad of Lonzo Ball of UCLA? The guy says Lonzo is better than Curry now and is Magic with a jump shot. Lol. I hadn't seen Lonzo play so I watched last night's game against Kentucky: 10 points, 1 for 6 on threes, 8 assists, 3 rebounds, four turnovers. He's a good young player but Dad is really going overboard on him.

LaVar Ball gets on my nerves and the media needs to ignore this guy. He's nothing but a blowhard. A couple of days ago he said he could beat MJ one on one.

From what I understand, Lonzo is a good kid, it's too bad his dad's mouth has a lot of folks rooting against Lonzo. Lonzo's expected to be the first or second player taken in this year's draft, but Monk and Fox from Kentucky both really outplayed Lonzo last night.

The worst part may be that there's two more Balls (get it? two balls?) in high school that are supposed to be really good, so we'll have to put up with even more of LaVar's mouth in the future.

I really want to make the playoffs, but I don't think we will. We end the season with too many road games and Portland plays many of their remaining games at home. Using the "Doug Moe system", where you subtract road wins from home losses, we're -3 and Portland is 0, even though we're a game up in the standings.

Yeah I was reading an article about Alex English the other day. He was a M-fer of a player. And his Gamecocks are looking pretty good this year.

Nuggets have really had some storied players who were phenomenal. I don't think some people really realize that

                      A little bit of trivia...

George Mikan scored more points than any other player in the decade of the 1950s.

Wilt Chamberlain scored more points than any other player in the decade of the 1960s.

Kareem scored more points than any other player in the decade of the 1970s.

Alex English scored more points than any other player in the decade of the 1980s.

Alex is in pretty good company...

BTW, I "think" David Robinson scored more points than any other in the 1990s...not sure about this but Jordan took off for a bit in the 90s.

Durant hyper extends his left knee and it was bad enough that they decide to sign Matt Barnes instead of Jose Calderone. We'll know more later but it doesn't seem like it will be good news. Meanwhile the Cavs sign Derron Williams after adding Kyle Korver and Derrick Williams, plus they may be signing Bogut.

Too bad. Hope it's not serious.
As for Matt Barnes, uhmm always seemed inconsistent to me. At times shows signs of a really solid player but then seems to disappoint, imo

Kurt, good win last night over the Cavs. Of course, I think any time a team beats the Cavs it is a good win, but I like the Nuggets also. Looked like just about the whole team played well.

Yeah, the team played really well...they were moving and cutting and hitting the open man. Jokic has had a big impact on the team, they know if they move and cut he'll get them the ball and the unselfishness has been contagious.

Jokic is really a unique player, he's become a "point center" and he brings the ball up the court quite a bit...it's interesting watching our point guards give him the ball in the backcourt for him to bring it up and getting the offense started.

Here's the best play of the game...Jokic taking LeBron one on one:

Here's his highlights for the game...he has a wide variety of shots and he makes them at a high percentage:

The Clippers still seem to have the choke mystique after losing last night. They blew a 19 point lead with 5 minutes left. How rare is that?

Teams Leading by 18+ Points in Final 5 Minutes - This Season
        Wins 359
        Losses 1 (Clippers)

Entering Sunday, teams were 6,746-1 over the last 20 seasons when leading by at least 18 points in the final 5 minutes.

        Lol

Looking forward to tonight's Cavs/Spurs game in SA. The odds have the Spurs by just 5. If I was a betting man I would take the Spurs to beat that one. I should be pulling for the Cavs in this one but I just can't.

Spurs up 27 last I checked, I can't watch this. I wonder who LeBron will blame this time?

I will need to update my championship odds, Cavs have looked pretty bad for an extended period of time.

The Cavs really are playing bad for a Champion. They have lost 10 out of their last 17 games. Boston is the first seed now. Again, if I was a betting man I would bet against the Cavs winning the Championship or maybe even making the finals this year. I'm not sure what those odds are.

It got so bad last night Lebron did the fake injury shtick and went to the locker room early. lol I must say though, Lebron is playing great ball. His team's defense is terrible though.

Now, tonight's game against Houston should a good match up. Houston is playing well, winning 4 in a row and 7 out of 10. The Warriors just need to make their threes at their normal pace and avoid making dumb turnovers. Tough game tomorrow also, against the Spurs.

Kurt, good win last night by the Nuggets. They are still in it, just a half game behind Portland who has lost two in a row now.

Big games tonight, the Cavs vs the Celtics in Boston and the Nuggets against the Rockets in Houston.

Last night there was a big controversy because Lance Stevenson made a wide open layup with a couple seconds left against Toronto. Toronto players were super pissed off and got right into Stevenson's face almost causing a brawl. Today a video surfaced of a Toronto win against the Sixers where a Toronto player steals the ball with a couple seconds left, ahead by 22 points and does a windmill dunk. Lol Hypocrites!

The Warriors faced the same thing a few nights ago against the Wizards when Mcgee had the ball outside the three point line with 1 second left on the shot clock and 4 or 5 seconds left in the game, ahead by over 20 points. He shot it and was then shoved to the ground by a Wizard player drawing a flagrant foul.

This is ridiculous I think and makes these players look petty and soft. Kind of like the oh so terrible bat flip after a home run that pisses off people so much in baseball. Good grief!

          Yes, that makes more sense.

Hey, the Cavs blew a 26 point lead in the fourth quarter today!! Incredible. That's two late loses to the Hawks in the past week and the Hawks win the season series 3-1. Maybe it will be the Hawks who can beat them this year in the playoffs. They seem to match up with the Cavs pretty well now.

We blew a 10 pt lead with 3 minutes left for the SECOND time to OKC to end our playoff hopes today. This has been maybe the most frustrating season for me ever. We easily lost 5-6 games we should have won.

One of my favorite players ever, Fat Lever is #6 ahead of MJ. Fat is on my all time "hard worker" team. Doug Moe was famous for yelling at players. A reporter asked him why he never yelled at Fat and Moe replied because he never had to.

BTW, a couple of laughs. First, the Nets are "resting" their starters tonight. Resting for what? The off season?

Next, TL's Lakers can't even tank correctly, winning 5 straight meaningless games, although I give the players credit for wanting to win.

You are right. I actually feel sorry for Melo for having to deal with that Ahole. What Jackson doesn't seem to be concerned about is free agents are going to be less likely to sign with the Knicks because of the Knicks owner and also because of Jackson's treatment of players such as Melo. Dumb.

That video in Denver reminds me of him coming to a local school in the Bay Area, St Joseph, a couple years ago to shoot a commercial. This is the school my ex gf's kids were attending at the time and one of them is seen at the 20 second mark in the commercial.

Wade had a very good game last night along with Rondo.

Time to do something drastic with the Clippers. My choice would be to get rid of Doc Rivers first as President, GM, Coach and anything else he does. He's very overrated.

Good first game for the Celtics against the Wizards. I'm not sold on them either but I think they could beat the Cavs with a great team effort.

You should read about it...9ers had #2 overall and traded it to Chicago for the #3 overall and a bunch of extra picks. Rumors are Lynch "bluffed" Chicago that another team was trying to trade with them for a QB (Trubisky) in order to get the extra picks from Chicago.

With the #3 Lynch got the player he wanted anyway and then he used one of the extra picks to trade up to the back of the first round and got a great LB from Alabama (Foster), who fell because of possible shoulder problems and a "diluted" drug test. Basically, Lynch got 2 of the top 5 or so defensive players in the draft, assuming Foster can stay healthy.

Yeah, I agree Rivers is over-rated, as are a couple of players on the Clippers.

Personally, I don't think the Celts have a chance against the Cavs.

See if we can get off to a better start tonight.

Rockets are a terrible matchup for Spurs. They are dangerous all the time.

Harden has really grown as a player and his mentality is sharp. He wants to get people the ball and win.

So Spurs treading dangerous territory here.

The Rockets got man handled by the Spurs tough D last night. Harden was totally frustrated by Leonard and was complaining throughout the game. If there's one guy who shouldn't complain about the refs it's Harden as he gets more close calls than anyone. Great player, but I get so tired of seeing him throw up his arms to hit the other players arms and get three free throws. He's going to have to work hard to score against the Spurs.

Ginobili and Vince Carter are still playing really well for their age.

Celtics looked good last night. Being someone who mainly wants to see the Cavs lose, I am kind of torn as to who would be a better challenge to them, Boston or Wash. At first I was thinking the Celtics because they would have home court advantage, but then again they don't seem to match up well with the Cavs and Washington beat the Cavs two in a row this season. Well, I guess I will just go with the winner of the series will be the best team. lol

Robert, I think Leonard's injury is more than a slight sprain. I used to get a sprained ankle about once a year when I played in high school. Sometimes it isn't so bad, but other times I was out for weeks and the pain was tremendous. Leonard is pretty tough and he couldn't put up with it in game one. He reminded me of Curry a few years ago when he kept on spraining his ankles. It can become an ongoing problem and cause further damage to the ligaments. Leonard is their star for the next decade so it makes sense to be cautious.

I was more upset at Pop over his ridiculous accusation against Pachulia. Intent doesn't matter? Leonard got hurt by stepping on David Lee's foot also. Does that make Lee guilty of being a dirty player also? lol

Kurt, it looks like Kristaps Porziņģis missed his exit meeting with Jackson because he's not happy with the direction the Knicks are going. haha. A lot of that is Phil's fault.

Looks like both the Dubs and the Cavs will undefeated going into the finals. A first. It should be a great finals. The Cavs defense has picked up after being pretty bad most of the season. LeBron is playing great ball I must admit. Curry and Durant are also. Even Klay is showing signs of waking up offensively. McGeee had 16 points in 13 minutes yesterday! Igoudala is back and Zaza should be soon also. Green has only one technical in the playoffs and seems as focused as ever. Dubs are ready.

Them, or the 49ers. A toss up.

Hey, the Knicks owner reminds me of the Warriors last owner who was considered one of the worst in sports, along with the guy who owned the Clippers.

Nuggets beat the Knicks for the 5th straight time, this time missing 3 starters. Jokic schools Porzingas, scoring 40 on 17 for 23 shooting and adds 9 boards and 5 assists.

And speaking of Reggie Lewis...He played at Dunbar High School and was one of four NBA first round picks on that high school team. If I remember correctly, the other 3 were Reggie Williams, Muggsy Bogues and David Wingate. That's a pretty good high school team.

What do you think of the Denver/Portland trade Kurt? Hard for me to evaluate who won, if anyone did. I like Plumlee though. I've been thinking for a while that he'd be a good fit on the Warriors. He's got skills.

Well, as I said about one year ago, The Nuggets beat the Warriors, so they are now the best team in the league.

I don't know what it is about the Nuggets but they always seem to give the Warriors a bad time. Tonight, they couldn't miss a three, and even tied the nba record for most threes in a game!

I had to laugh...when we had the tie for most 3s made with 7 seconds left, needing a 3 to break the record and dribbling the clock out, the local play-by-play guy says, "This is where we need JR Smith."

Jokic gets his second triple double with 17-21-12. And our 3rd stringers beat your 3rd stringers.

After last years finals, yes. I don't think the Warriors are in the same category as the peak Michael Jordon led Bulls Championship years. Yet. If they win this year, then people can start to compare. Curry, Thompson and Durant have to be more consistent in the playoffs, and especially the finals. I think the more experience they have in the playoffs the better they will get, but they certainly are beatable.

If Love is back for the playoffs I don't think it matters much. Here's my odds of winning the championship:
      60% Ws
      25% Cavs
      10% Spurs
      5% The Field
      Seems about right.

I know the Cavaliers always have an extra gear so to speak when it's playoff time but I can't see them beating the Warriors in a BO7. I'd love to be proven wrong of course, Curry, although I have so much respect for his game, has an heir of arrogance that really rubs me the wrong way.

Would be awesome to see CP3 and Griffin go far...just for a change of scenery.

Yes, the slam dunk I haven't watched in years. The 3 point contest I watched last year but not this year. The game itself is not interesting anymore. I think they used to try to play some defense, but maybe I'm wrong about that. Now, it's just wide open dunks and 3 point shots.

The Demarcus Cousins trade was surprising because everyone was denying it would happen. The Pelicans should make the playoffs now because they have imo the two best bigs in the league, a good point guard, plus a good coach. We'll see if Cousins can control his temper.

Vlade Divac, the Kings GM, said he had a better deal for Cousins two days earlier. Why say something like that? SMH. That isn't going to make Kings fans too happy.

Dummy Steven A Smith says the Celtics would be better off getting Carmelo than Jimmy Butler!? That guy is clueless sometimes.

It's all pretty much unwatchable for me.

Remember in the 70s when they had the HORSE competition and Maravich made everyone else look silly?

Hey!!! If NO makes the playoffs it probably means we miss them! I think/hope it will take them a number of games to figure out how to play together. It could be tough since they both play the same position. Let's see how Boogie reacts to not being the sole focus of the team.

Vlade Divac, the Kings GM, said he had a better deal for Cousins two days earlier. Why say something like that? SMH. That isn't going to make Kings fans too happy.
The only reason I can think of why Vlade would say that is frustration with ownership, but I agree that there isn't much of an upside by saying it publicly.

Last night Jokic got his 3rd triple double in February, becoming the first center to get 3 triple/doubles in the same month since David Robinson.

Jokic followed It up with another triple double tonight with 13, 14 and 10.

Jokic is different from practically all the other centers in that he gets his triple with assists and not blocks.

I'm mostly impressed by their defense the past few weeks. They have really stepped it up and Matt Barnes has been a great addition. He's really playing under control, aggressive and smart ball. That first period last night had me worried though, I won't lie.

Well, if I bet against the Warriors winning it all, that would just about guarantee them winning it all. lol.

The MVP race seemingly is down to Westbrook and Harden. It's amazing to think that both of them, along with Durant, were on the same OKC team.
I remember OKC facing Miami in the 2012 finals and losing. Harden completely choked in that series. Just turrable.

But yeah, there was a lot of talent on that team. They should have done whatever they could to keep those three together.

Even for a woman's game , I have to say it was one of the most incredible games I have ever seen. And I have never before yelled and screamed for a women's basketball game like I did last night lol

Probably the top 5 biggest upsets of all time in any sports anytime, anywhere.
UConn beat teams during regular season on avg. by over 40 points. And beat Miss. State last year by 60 pts.

However, If the Dub lose the NBA championship it might knock this game last night out of that Top 5 biggest
          upsets

P.S. Btw, Spurs come back from 21 down to beat OKC at OKC last night in final seconds

The MVP race seemingly is down to Westbrook and Harden. It's amazing to think that both of them, along with Durant, were on the same OKC team.

Trivia: It's kind of hard to believe, but I heard this on the local Nuggets broadcast a few days ago...Nicola Jokic has had more triple doubles than any other non-American born player in NBA history with 6.

That is surprising and impressive for Jokic. I would have thought somebody like Ginobili, Dirk, Nash, Tony Parker, Olajuwon, Kyrie Erving, Detlef Schrempf, Kukoc etc... would have over 6. I was also a bit surprised to find out Draymond Green needs one more triple double to tie the Warriors all time record of 20.

Boston sure layed an egg the other night against the Cavs. Geesh. And they lost again last night to Atlanta. Is any team in the East ever going to play a Lebron team tough?

That's it for me...we finished 40-42. I thought we'd have around 43 wins, so I wasn't too far off. The best thing for the season is Jokic showing he may be able to become a superstar. Last game of the year he had 29-16-8 and added 5 blocks.

I sure hope Toronto can at least win a couple games. I was disappointed in Indiana, who were ahead of the Cavs by 26 in game three and blew it. No wonder Larry Bird retired.

A deal that seems to make sense is Carmelo to LAC for Blake Griffin, although if I were LAC I wouldn't want Melo.
I wouldn't want either of those guys. Griffin mostly because he can't seem to play a whole season without getting injured and would be too expensive for an injury prone star. Plus, he's not the inside player he used to be.

I'm glad to see the Celtics turn it around and beat the Bulls. They will still have home court advantage against the Cavs if they meet.

Big game seven tomorrow. It's strange because I have felt myself pulling for the Clippers the last couple of games and that never happens.

The Spurs vs Houston series should be real interesting. I think the Rockets just might pull an upset.

I'm still not sold on the Celtics...Rondo going out changed the entire complexion of that series.

It seems Utah always flies under the radar. I've enjoyed watching that series and watching Balmer go emo.

BTW, John Lynch seems to have done a great job with the draft for the 49ers. Since he and Kyle Shanahan have such strong ties to the Broncos, they're now my second favorite team.

^ A Clippers victory will finally answer , can GSW beat LAC in the playoffs? but then again Griffin is not healthy so there's Doc Rivers excuse . A Jazz-Warriors match-up will no doubt make the Warriors sweat and barring any major injury, GSW in 5 or 6.

Hmm, I'm not sure if he is overrated anymore. He used to be considered the best point guard for years and now he is maybe in the top 5. Maybe. I don't think he is the problem with the Clippers. Their lack of depth, coaching and constant injuries hurt them.

Good win for the Spurs last night! And the Cavs seem to be back in playoff mode, or is it that Toronto just sucks?

Yeah, maybe he is not like he was once was. But still good. I know in the past I saw things from CP3 no one else could do. No one.

Kind of like Parker. Parker will never be considered one of the top guards of all time but some of his moves to the basket and the way he would pivot and then reverse direction on the pivot ...well one else could do it quite like him. And I think at his peak 4 or 5 years ago his short range jumper was about as good as anyone in history

He will be sorely missed but Patty should do fine. Huge game tomorrow. Can't wait

If CP3 is so good, why have all his teams failed so miserably in the playoffs consistently over many years? He's been a good point guard, but not great IMO. I'd take Tony Parker over CP3 any day.

I agree about taking Tony Parker over Paul. Parker is clutch in the playoffs. I was never one of those who considered Paul the best point guard but he's probably going to the hall of fame.

Yeah, the Warriors are just too much for the Spurs. If Leonard had played it probably would have been a different story. But Dubs are operating on all cylinders

I don't really get Pop. I have ALWAYS had mixed feelings about him. Don't get me wrong he is one of the best coaches ever.

But Leonard had 6 days rest and by his own omission he was ready to play.
But Pop says no, he probably is not 100 percent.

Iam thinking these are the Western Conference f-ing Finals

Damn, this is when the real soldiers of the game go out and play.
And play no matter what. These times are when legends are born.

MJ had 103 degree temp with the flu and he did it. Kirk Gibson did it with the Dodgers back in 1980s and was limping around the bases after hitting home run in World Series

I get the fact Pop says he is looking out for his players future...blah, blah blah

But here is where I have mixed feelings about Pop : I have NEVER felt like he and people like Tim Duncan and actually probably most of the NBA players and coaches ..they just don't seem to get the fact that their Success is totally dependent on the FANS of the game.

Don't get me wrong they do appreciate them to a certain extent.

But here is the fact : Without people like me, Tim, Kurt and millions of other NBA fans around the Globe who pay for seats at the arena, watch TV broadcasts, buy the merchandise etc..etc. well Pop, Kawhi Leonard, Michael Jordan, Lebron James. Curry etc.. they would be NOTHING.

NOTHING at all. There whole Success is predicated upon us the fans.

        PERIOD !! End of Story.

I think they get overcome with egos when they get those millions of dollars and live the lifestyle they do. And they become delusional in convincing themselves that they alone made their own Success. Hell, we are the ones paying for those damn mansions and Bentleys lol

I think Pop has never truly gotten this. Or it hasn't resonated to a degree where I see him comment on that fact. I just never have heard him say anything close to that about the fans.

Instead he sits players out against the Heat a few years ago when you had fans paying thousands of dollars to see an awesome matchup.

And now he is sitting out a franchise player who could literally lead his team to at least a close game against another great team just because that franchise player's ankle might still be a little tender. Poor little baby.

It's like damn, man up !! Or go home.

I know the fans want to see the match up especially when the actual player says he feels good enough to go out and play.

The only player I think that comes close to understanding the fans and what they mean is probably Curry.

Anyway, enough of my rant. I hear Pop is going to sit Leonard out for Mondays game. Even if he is healthy.

What a f-ing balless and cowardly move

Even with Leonard though , KD is looking incredible and Dubs defense is peaking so not sure it would make a huge difference. Of course we will never know
        .

  • While I am not a fan of Golden State or Cleveland (I do not root against either of them), I was surprised at the start of the NBA season fans and writers complaining how few teams could win the title.

If you go back in NBA history it isn't as if the Warriors/Cavs invented dominance. The Boston Celtics won 8 titles in a row.

Sports have often had a team tower over the others and did not suffer in terms of attendance or revenue. Hockey in the past had dominance by the Montreal Canadians. The Yankees had several periods in time where they were on top of the mountain by far.

Enjoy the good about the NBA and if we get Warriors/Cav's 3 it is not a bad thing.

Boston looked like they might tie the series last night but then Erving had a great third quarter. Erving had a slight sprain on his ankle and we'll see if he can avoid stepping on anyone else feet.

Round 2 : LeBron James versus Kevin Durant
Since this is a rematch , which the victor of previous finals won the championship with a bit of luck in full 7 Games
Will this repeat what happened in 1989..Pistons trounce the Lakers after losing a heartbreak Game 7 the year before to LA?
Or like 2014 when the Spurs smashed the Heat in 5 games after losing the 2013 Finals to Miami ....

What gives the Cavs hope is all their 3 point shooters. I believe this year the Cavs actually shot more 3s than the Dubs and made a higher percentage, which gives them a "punchers chance".

I expect the Cavs to fight hard tonight with some of their role players playing better now that they are home.
Lebron needs some help. He's looking frustrated already and tired in the second halves, although playing great.

Durant's defense has been exceptional. I was as excited to have him added to the Warriors because of his defense as I was because of his offense and he has meshed in well with their defensive scheme.

Good to see Kerr on the bench although it's obvious he is still in pain.

Draymond has kept his leg kicking in check and has only one technical I believe. Curry is playing at his top form or at least very close to it. Nice to see that in the finals for a change. Even Klay is coming around offensively.

Yeah, not much of a series. I know Silverman and the NBA executives can't stand this at all.
Most everyone around me is bored by it not really watching it and have better things to do.

I just wish the Warriors had the same team last year. It really seems so much more authentic to many.

Tim, I know you are excited and seriously congrats but it all seems contrived to many people outside the Warrior fan base.

I know you don't like hearing that but it's just the truth and it's
not just me its many, many people..

People keep saying look at the Heat with the BIG 3. They did it too.. I think that is like comparing Apples to oranges. This Warrior team with Durant is much, much better. Not even close

You took a Super team and added a super player who will be in the top 5 to ever play the game when all is said and done and the two best sharp shooters to ever stand on a basketball court, imo. All on the same team

Just really bizarre that whole trade and like I said it seems contrived.

It would be like Kareem being traded and wanting to go to the 86' Celtics.

Anyway, I know it may sound like sour grapes ( maybe a little ) but really I have truly thought that from day 1 of the trade.
If Durant or Lebron came to the Spurs after 2014 it would really be weird to me. Would I mind it ??
Probably not !! lol. But honestly it would still always leave a weird aftertaste in my mouth

Silverman says he is making it his goal to make sure it does not ever happen again.

Robert, it's ok. I know a lot of people feel like it is hurting the league, but what will happen is other teams will try to get better to challenge the Warriors. Who? Well, your Spurs team for one. If they sign Chris Paul and maybe get one or two new role players, they could be right there with the Dubs. Also, the Cavs can improve by trading Love for a better defender who can still score some and add a few other defense first type players. That last game was close and really, so was the game before. They are going to compete for the next few years even if they don't do anything. Boston could get better and there are some other up and coming teams.

The Dubs are playing great though, I must admit. If they sweep the Cavs they can be in the discussion as best team ever.

Well I guess maybe I posted too soon LOL. Still incredible for the Dubs to reel off that many playoff wins in a row before tonight. One of the greatest accomplishments ever in
      NBA, imo.

Now back to Oakland. It's weird but I actually think pressure is back on the Dubs.

Too 'scary' close to being like last year

Yep. Hey, this series could easily be tied now. If they lose the next game there will definitely be mounting pressure on them.

When Erving gets going he is a great offensive player.

Draymond at the parade today. I was wondering what the t-shirt was for, then it became clear. Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland! Quickie as in a quick series. This is payback for Lebron wearing the Ultimate Warrior t-shirt at last years parade. Lol

By the way, Jerry West apparently is going to sign with the Clips. This is a great move by the Clippers. I am surprised because of West's age but he says he feels young and is still competitive. There's also rumors flowing that Lebron might leave Cleveland again and two teams that are mentioned are the Lakers and the Clippers. To me it makes more sense for him to go to the Clippers and hiring West will only help them convince LeBron to go there. LeBron is an admirer of West.

Congrats to Tim and the Warriors

I'll conceded and let the KD thing slide and just chalk it up as making the league that much better and upping the standards for all the teams....especially if they want to compete.

But I still say that next year will not be a shoe in for with the Warriors. Leonard is going to be a beast to handle. I won't say he is as dynamic as KD is as far as an offensive machine. But he is not too far behind. And his defense will just keep getting better

So the draft is coming up in a couple of days. Boston traded their #1 to Philly for the #3 and another #1. The Sixers will likely take Markelle Fultz. Man, the Sixers are going to be a hell of a team next year if they can stay healthy. Fultz, Simmons, Embiid and Covington just may create the team to challenge the Cavs in the next couple of years, assuming the Cavs keep LeBron.

Should be interesting to see who Boston and the Lakers take.

The Cavs will have a new GM and are looking to improve their team again, with Paul George and Jimmy Butler the two big names coming up.

It has been fun to watch. They seem to be calling fouls consistently with the regular season. If they quit calling fouls and let the players get away with more brute force, like they have done for most previous finals, the Cavs still have a chance. If they make them stick to playing real basketball as it should be played the Cavs at 3% may be too generous.

Dubs/Cavs were in this same situation last year, with Dubs leading 3-1. Difference is, this year Dubs have KD and will have Draymond, plus they have the history of last year as motivation, and this is a big difference.

Like I said - if they are allowed to play 'brawl ball' the Cavs can win. So many fouls going on the refs can't call them all. Sure GS was committing them too but it is impossible not to get dragged into it when the other team is trying to physically intimidate you.

Where credit is due... in the first 1/2 the Cavs were making every shot even with some great defense in their face.

I still think GS would have won if it weren't for all the delays to watch replays and sort out other issues involving techs. You could see it start to happen that the Cavs were starting to run out of gas on both defense and offense just before all the game stoppages. Key players were getting a lot of rest. There is no way they keep up that same intensity and have the legs or rhythm for shooting if they go 4 quarters without the bonus rest. I don't think it was on purpose or some conspiracy but it would have been a different game without a second half time.

Yes, and that's very important for the Cavs to have a chance to win. I read a good article about how the Cavs defense was terrible this year in transition. They were dead last. However, after made shots their defense was much better, ranked #10. So, after made shots their defense has a chance to setup and can play pretty tough. On the other side, the Warriors transition offense ranked #1.

Let's see if Dubs could end this tonight...Curry and Durant both losers to LeBron Teams in the NBA Finals should go for the kill considering both their teams has lost consecutive games against this same man in a Finals series :
2012- OKC dropped 4 straight games, Heat wins championship
2016- GSW dropped 3 straight games, Cavaliers wins championship
Another disturbing trend that seems to build up between this two teams since 2015 is a tendency to have a streak, either team is able to dealt a 3 or 4 successive wins.

champion ya'll!!!!!!!!!!!!! After how OKC handled the situation with harden, I couldn't see how they can commit to their players. Durant probably knows it and he's seen better being part of that franchise. It's not like what he did with golden state is catch and shoot. He transferred there and basically is the best player there along with the others. But, it's not like he did not work for it. I don't care about you haters, he did what was best for him. Like what the analysts have said, it shouldn't have happened if bron stayed in cleveland in 2011.

Congrats to stef who is a class act and will probably be a golden state lifer. However feel free to call me a hater where Durant is concerned. I and many others will put an asterisk besides his ring.

It's not that I am against super teams - It's that fighting in the trenches one year against a team then switching to the opposition in the next is just a bandwggoner move.

I think that's what stung the great fans of okc the most not Durant leaving or even forming a super team but playing your last game in OKC against a team and taking the easy way out by joining that Same team in your very next game.

Say what you will about Lebron but Miami was not a championship level team without him. Without KD GS is still in the finals and still very likely to win it all.

    Hey Mike Anthony... haha...
OKC could not even commit to their players. Look at what they did to James Harden? If they were committed to winning, they should have done their part and kept him. Now, if you are KD what does that tell you? KD knows the management way more than anyone of us. Do you expect him to wait for the management to do their work and they would not even pay great talent (harden). He wants to win and he didn't see that happening in OKC. Period.

Why would I not compare Lebron going to miami the same with KD's move? Did that 8th seed miami team have Chris bosh in his prime? They literally formed a big 3 there. First time KD met lebron in the finals, he and his team were too young and inexperienced to go up against bron, wade, and bosh in their prime. And all praises for lebron and that team. Why can't KD have that? Talk about double standards.

That point doesn't hold up when you see how well they played GS last year but anyway the point is not that he didn't stay with OKC but that he merely bandwaggoned on a team likely to win it all without him

Why would I not compare Lebron going to miami the same with KD's move? Did that 8th seed miami team have Chris bosh in his prime? They literally formed a big 3 there.
That's pretty easy to answer on Lebron's side. No one can make a rational argument Miami wins any of the rings without him. The end.

As for answering Shaq...he still can't. The Shaqs, the Jordan's, the Lebron's, the Kobe's, the Curry's shucks even the Wade's all elevated their teams to contention not merely hooked up with a team that could and would win without them.

Now if he returns to OKC or another team and does what those players did he can join the first tier but any good player can join a championship level team and get a ring.

As for OKC and harden... They made a mistake but for a young city in a small market I wouldn't say they have no commitment to winning.

So to clarify and let it die from my end. The asterisk for many is NOT anti super team or even pro never leaving a team - it's someone of KD's skill set just going with an already formed super team.

^ You can't really blame KD for leaving a team whos management wants to win a championship with a budget meal lineup. Seeing LeBron get his third ring last year probably was one of the last strings. They are supposed to be rivals you know and here he is stuck with zero rings at that point. Now he can retire and talk back to players like Shaq( Ilike the dude) but O'neal is like a broken record when he cant handle a good conversation anymore or its not going his way, he always brag and hides behind his rings specially against Charles Barkley. This makes me appreciate and understand LeBron and KD.

Oh another thing, theres this "But Magic,Larry and MJ never joined the opposition or switch teams to get rings"
Guess what? Magic and Larry are already NBA champions by the time their rookie contract was up.
MJ? He hates the Pistons to the bone, really, you expect him to join that team?
The stigma of winning ringless probably made this to LeBron and KD to jump ship. The blame is not really on them. They smartly just avoided one of the potential stains of their HoF careers.

Interesting rumor in the local Denver media has the Nuggets interested in Chris Paul and it seems Paul has some interest in the Nuggets. From my point of view though, it would seem that the Spurs would be a better fit for Paul at this stage in his career. Part of the rumor though is that players (including Paul) want to play with Jokic because of his play-making and unselfishness..

Durant is doing the same thing to help keep Igoudala and Livingston.

I'm not sold on Ball either. It seems like the Lakers are though as they just traded Russell to Brooklyn. Ball didn't play well in the only game I saw him play last year. I think he's going to struggle once NBA defenses focus on him. If you watch a highlight film of his though, he looks pretty impressive.

Our buddy Phil Jackson must be an admirer of the President because the Knicks seem to be in chaos. Supposedly they are thinking of trading Porzingis, who is a hell of a young talent.

The Dubs, Cavs, Spurs and maybe the Rockets and Celtics are the only teams that should maneuver to try to win it all next season. Every other team should be looking at building a team that comes together 3 years from now. There's nothing any of the other teams can do to overcome the Dubs in a season or two.

I'm starting to question Lonzo Ball as a prospect. Saw a scouting report on him that said he only made 7 mid-range shots all last season. He either shoots the 3 or drives all the way to the hoop. Also, because of his shooting motion he can only shoot jumpers going to his left.

I have doubts about a player without any mid-range game and limited to shooting only going to his left.

Celts have 7 #1 picks over the next 3 years. Maybe trade four of them for Anthony Davis?

That Lydon seems like a good pick.

I'm happy with what the Warriors got as they bought an athletic defensive big who can probably start playing right away in their small ball lineups.

Looks like the Knicks actually made another good pick with that point guard from France.

Sacramento had a good day also, so maybe they will start turning things around.

The consensus seems to be that Chicago was the biggest loser.

The Nuggets front office was down because they had a trade that fell through at the last minute. Rumors are it was for Jimmy Butler.

I don't like that we traded down and picked up two players in the process. We had too many young players that need playing time to develop already.

Seems the trade that fell through was a 3 way deal with the Nuggets, Cavs and Pacers. Nuggets would have gotten Kevin Love and the Cavs Paul George. I'm not sure what the Nugs would have sent to the Pacers, but it sounds like the Pacers wanted Jamal Murray and/or Jokic. I would guess that in a trade for Kevin Love that Kenneth Faried would have been involved too.

I'm really excited about Jokic, as excited as I've been about any young Nugget since David Thompson. Jokic plays basketball the right way and the whole team plays better because of him and know if they cut and are even a little bit open he'll get them the ball.

He also makes the "hockey assist" where he gets the ball to another player who'll get the assist.

Looks like Doc Rivers is being exposed as someone who favors his son and many of his players, including Paul, resented and even despised him for it. I just never understood why the Clips gave him so much power and leeway to run the organization. It was pretty clear he was making dumb decisions and as a coach, I think he is way overrated. Or was way overrated.

Well I always thought that Doc Rivers seems really like an overrated coach.
Blew a 3-1 lead twice (With Orlando and Clippers) probably the only coach to have this twice.
Blew 3-2 lead twice (In NBA Finals versus Lakers , East Finals versus Heat)
        Blew a 2-0 lead
        Blew a 2-1 lead

Jimmy Butler traded to Minn and Paul George to OKC...not only did the East lose two more stars, both these guys were traded to the Nuggets' division. Ouch.

Yeah, it's only going to get easier for Lebron to make the finals again.

Minnesota is also replacing Rubio with Teague, which is probably an improvement although Rubio is a good player. Plus, they are thinking of adding Milsap or Reddick. Minnesota is going to be tough.

Meanwhile the Rockets are also being very aggressive. They want Igoudala and also are talking to the Knicks about getting Melo. Melo has a no trade contract but maybe he would agree to go to Houston.

Igoudala would be a good match for the Rockets, but I think Melo would be a disaster. I just don't see how Melo and Harden can coexist in the same offense, they both need the ball all the time.

Yeah, Melo just is slow to give up the ball. I'm not sure how that would work either.

I really hope the Dubs can keep Igoudala. I wonder if he is thinking of leaving because of the rookie Jordan Bell, who may have been chosen with the intention of replacing Igoudala eventually.

I think Igoudala is a bit of a mercenary in that he doesn't have a lot of loyalty and will go to the team that he feels is giving him the most "respect".

Looks like we may get Paul Milsap. He's a good player but too old. And if it means losing Galinari I don't think it's much of an overall improvement. Our FO has been trying for a few years, but just not getting any results. It's frustrating. Go Broncos!

Yahoo News is reporting we signed Millsap 3 years $30 million a year. That's too much IMO. He has made 4 straight all star games with the Hawks but I doubt he can do it in the West.

He may help us make the playoffs but we still won't compete with the top teams in the West and if we don't resign Gallo I'm not sure we'll be all that much improved without our young players taking a big step.

But I do understand why the FO signed him...we've been last in attendance and they needed to show fans some results, so while I disagree with the signing I understand why they did it.

It's 8:20 am here and I was flipping through the channels and I see the same game being played and it's on Fox Sports 1.

BTW, the announcer just called Rauf "Steph Curry before Curry". They are very similar.

I watched quite a bit of the summer league this year. Lonzo Ball does look like he will be a good player at least. Not sure still if he will be the star the Lakers have been waiting for but he sure can pass the ball. Plus, the Lakers look like they have another very good rookie in Kuzma who was a late first round pick.

The Blazers got a late first round pick who also had a very good summer league in Caleb Swanigan. He's going to fit in real well with that team. He has an interesting story in that he not only grew up in a tough situation, being homeless with a drug addicted father, but also was very obese as a kid, weighing 350 pounds in the 8th grade. He was adopted by Roosevelt Barnes, the retired Detroit Lions linebacker who changed his life. Great story!

I'm a little worried that Ball will be like Phil Ford. Ford tore up the NBA his first season or two with assists. But then the league figured out he couldn't shoot and backed off him, effectively ending his career.

Ball can only shoot going to his left or driving to the hoop and has no middle game at all. I wonder if this will limit him once the NBA players catch on? Plus, the Kentucky guards ate Ball alive in the NCAA tourney.

The thing is, Lonzo seems like a good kid and I find myself rooting against him only because of his idiot father. I wonder how many other fans and even players feel the same way?

Yeah, he does seem like a good guy. His father ads pressure to him that for sure, but Magic says the great ones can deal with the pressure. I'm not sure he is going to be great though. Let's see what he can do against some tough NBA defenses like the Spurs, Warriors, Utah, etc... He had some high turnover games in the summer league, so when he gets in double digits in turnovers during the regular season what happens?

I find myself rooting against him because he is a Laker. lol

I think my Bronco Von Miller in his Old Spice commercial sums up Durant the best, "But Coach...I'm delicate". I think Durant is a little too delicate.

BTW, the rumors are LeBron is 100% done in Cleveland and will be going to the Lakers next year. Just when you thought you couldn't dislike LeBron any more...huh Tim? LOL

If LeBron does end up with the Lakers, do you think TL will make a comeback?

I also saw a poll, I think it was on ESPN, that rates Jokic as the 13th best player in the NBA. Can't wait for NBA season to begin.

Yes, I didn't think I could dislike the Lakers any more either, but with the Ball family and Lebron possibly joining them next year, the feeling could go up another notch. lol

Durant just may be the most disliked player in the NBA now, surpassing ... who? Lebron? Draymond? Melo?

Jokic is getting a lot of recognition and well deserved.

TL, is gone for good I think. Even if the Lakers make it to the playoffs, which won't happen soon unless Lebron signs with them.

Haha. We'll see. He's got talent but I see the good defenses really taking advantage of his turnovers and lack of shooting range.

I didn't know you disliked Westbrook that much. He's not one of my favorites either, although he sure is an amazing athlete. Two ball hogs on that team and two guys who choke in the final minutes. Despite that Paul George commercial where he shoots, turns around and says "game", he is something like 0 for 18 in game winning or tying shots in final seconds. Not clutch at all. Westbrook is also not his best at the end of games. Not sure about Carmelo.

I guess it's time to start a new thread!

By the way, Robert, I agree with you.

Melo to OKC...the two players I dislike the most in the NBA (Melo and Westbrook) make it very convenient for me to pick a team to root against. I also think it will be very difficult for these two players to play well together, unless Melo can greatly reduce his need to be a ball hog and is willing to be the third option behind Westbrook and George.
