Please don't make too much fun of me, but yes I like Downton Abby. It's great period drama.

It's British. It's fiction. It's got love, greed, drama, even comedy.
It starts a bit light, almost giving the impression that it's not serious at all, but give it time as it develops, and you won't be disappointed. And since it's short, don't expect the character develop and subplots like Downtown. There's just not time. And it's a bit predictable. Still, if you like Downton, it's Julian Fellowes and it's free on Amazon.
Albeit not the sweeping work that is Downton, it's still quite enjoyable, and I nice holdover until someone throws enough money at Julian to do a full series.
