Here is a website of a girl that went through cherynobyl and the buildings surrounding the nuclear plant there. Just her on a motorcycle out in what essentially a wasteland. She took a geiger (sp?) meter and a camera for pictures. very eery

One of the girls I went to high school with grew up over there, and she glowed a faint blue in the dark, it was really strange.

    Those pictures are really sad.

There was a TV documentary about this last week on the History Channel I think. It was shocking and very sad indeed.

How the hell has nuclear war not happened ? I don't get it - how can you have 20,000 nukes and not end up somebody using them ?

    Thank heavens not.

Luckily, I think most places realize they would be TOAST, LITERALLY, if they use them. even the US only momentarily really had sole access to the bomb. Of course, according to history, they only made two, and used them in a matter of days.

It's called MAD, mutually assured destruction.

There's people from some Islands somewhere out by the Philippines or close that have been receiving medical support from the US because of the way the nuclear testing effected their health. The gov has recently decided they don't want to support their medical bills and the people are now fighting in court against the US just being able to screw them up and walk off on them.
The US did a lot of testing at and near Bimini in the south Pacific in the 40s and 50s.

I worked as an instrument technician in a nuclear power station for about 11 years. We
had a great deal of training in many areas, and there was a video about Chernobyl that
      we watched.

I cannot describe it. There was footage and pics of the disaster showing emergency crews
trying to put out the fire. People just trying to do something. I saw pics of these guys in
the hospital just waiting to die. Their skin was completely black from being literally cooked
and dying. Some of these guys died within a day or so. It's pretty awful because that kind
of radiation just passes right through you. There are different kinds of radiation, and some
is of a low enough energy that even paper will stop it. But these guys were bathed in
gamma and neutron radiation. It's much like being in a microwave. They died of massive
organ failure because they were literally cooked from the inside out.

I saw pics and videos of guys, firemen, standing on the roof above the open reactor, and
they were looking down into it. It was a death sentence. Of course they all died.

I saw footage of firemen/soldiers receiving medals prior to going to work there. Crazy and
stupid. They were like the Japanese kamikaze pilots embarking on suicide missions.

I won't bother to rant about anything. You're all smart enough to know and understand. The
thing that gets me time and again is the deception involved. I'm old enough, seen enough,
but it is something that can really bother me if I allow it. I don't because I don't think about
      it.

When I say deception, I'm talking about its practice in many areas by many entities. I guess
that's about all I'll say about that.

      Peace to all of you.

Its very sad about Chernobyl .

@ gareth , Because if you use nuclear nukes against other country , you will be annihilated too , thats why ussr and usa didnt destroy it each other but they were close .

They lied about it on the news to the people; and the people had to find out about it from other country sources. So what makes it even worse, was that they allowed whoever was in the region to remain around the accident, instead of evacuating people sooner...

Sure makes it hard to trust your government or anyone... and imagine being the people in the government... not taking action for this?

Do they not have any conscience!?

Yes, 2 very fake butt cracks. She's been dubbed "Miss Chernobyl" all over the web for more years than I can remember. At least as far back as 2003, possibly longer.

Might this be a little peak at our future? Hot zones, habitable zones, no-man-dare-to-go-there zones? A nuke war won't kill everyone and I pity those left to live in such a place after that.

There's been a lot of illness caused by radiation from test sites drifting, too. Milk from certain areas of the US after 54 was (possibly still is) contaminated with radiation and has gotten to more milk drinkers than the perpetrators of those tests will allow to be willing to discuss openly. There are a few hot spots around the earth already - and the testing continues. There's people from some Islands somewhere out by the Philippines or close that have been receiving medical support from the US because of the way the nuclear testing effected their health. The gov has recently decided they don't want to support their medical bills and the people are now fighting in court against the US just being able to screw them up and walk off on them.

Maybe worth reading up on the ongoing consequences for folks
    in Nagasaki and Hiroshima!

Also none too sure whether Scottish sheepdogs have stopped

It was never really a secret that Russia at least DID make some of the WORST nuclear plants. Chernobyl was HORRIBLE! The world probably first found out about it through SWEDEN, IIRC! WHY? How did SWEDEN find out? They had some kind of radiation monitor, and they detected a HIGH amount of radiation!

And russia really couldn't handle chernobyl well. Look at how much trouble Japan had with a FAR better reactor.

I mean if you have MINOR cracks, it is an easy and quick repair, and may result in NO injuries! If it is a coolant shutdown, it is far worse. If the sheiding goes, it is even worse. After a meltdown, it is far worse still. Not only are the situations worse, but you have more trouble gettng to the site, more trouble repairing, and less time to do it.

And the worlds first REAL, 100% isolated, examples of radiation poisoning on a large scale happened in Japan after the bombs were dropped. Those that were INCINERATED were relatively lucky. On the periphery of the bomb site, there was radation sickness EVERYWHERE. And it got better as you moved farther away.

I'm a Cherynobyl baby. My mommy (when she was preggers with me) was hit by a blast of radiation from Cherynobyl and at that stage, all the doctors were aborting babies. My dad, who is a Priest, told the doctor that no matter how I came out - he'd love me. AT that time 90% of people were aborting.

When I was born, I couldn't digest my food, at one month the Doctors in South Africa told my parents that I would die. They didn't know what the problem is. My parents went around SA looking for a Russian Doctor who had experience dealing with the babies who had problems from Chernobyl. They found him just in time. The doctor said if I hadn't gotten operated on that day, I would have died. At one and a half month's, I weighed the same as a loaf of bread. >.<

I still have a scar on my stomach but I'm proud of it! I'm glad my dad had the faith - because besides that weird anomaly when I was little - I'm healthy as a horse.

I guess I'm lucky.... though, those pictures are extremely depressing =(
