Hey guys,

I recently picked up a business card and it had a QR code on it. I got to thinking...

Does anyone ever scan QR codes?

I mean, they've been around for quite a few years now, and I've got an app on my phone... SOMEWHERE... but, it's kind of a hassle to find the app and scan the code.

For me, rather than search for the QR app and figure it out, it's easier to just open up my phone's browser and type in the web address.

So, I'm curious... do you scan QR codes?

Oh, I've done it before... I'm just wondering if businesses that go through the trouble of adding a QR code to their business cards are actually seeing much benefit.

I think most people are like me and never utilize the QR codes on business cards, signs, etc.

We were having this discussion on another forum a month or two ago. I remember when they came out. They were supposed to be the next big thing. Plenty of crappy WSO's here back then telling people they needed to get on board with them.

I still think they have potential, but the big smartphone manufacturers need to make QR code recognition an auto feature with smartphone cameras instead of people needing a separate app. If they did that, they could be a lot more useful.

Myself, about the only time I have ever used them has been in Best Buy. They put them on price tags. You can scan them and it takes you straight to customer reviews for that product on their website. Kind of handy sometimes.

i think a big factor about this is marketing. if you wanna appear as the super-modern web 2-3.0 IT-guy, you could add a QR-code just for the sake of presenting yourself - no matter if it's used or not.

however, if you add a QR-code please make sure it's in the correct format so the mobile device recognizes the information to be a contact (and not just plain text), so the user could add your contact information to his/her address book with 1 click.

i never scanned a contact qr code, but i also never input contact information either my address book has very few contacts (like: only the important ones).
i do scan qr codes for various other things though.

i totally agree that qr-code scanners should be standard apps.

Not sure the answer, but, QR codes are becoming very popular. They are showing up everywhere. So, if you have a business card, it would be useful to have it as well as an email address, because on a business card you have to keep looking at the url and type it in to your device. You can't copy and paste off a business card. Anything that makes it easier for a prospective purchaser must be a good idea. Give people as many options as you can.
