Would you ever just go live deep in the woods?

Living off the land.
Living in harmony with nature
Living without the need for money, technology, business, sales.
Instead just living by way of: gardening, trapping, fishing, and hunting
Living the adventure of a life in the wild.

Do you think you'd ever just do this? Instead of wasting your life endlessly glued to your computer getting a sore azz.

???

No, but l am endlessly glued to my computer screen getting a sore hand, (l do a lot of graphics, with the mouse).

And would go to a secluded beach for a while, well, as long as, it has Wi Fi, videos on demand, and 5 star service.

If you liked the movie - you should read the book. It's even better.

    ---

    OP -

I could live off the grid. I'm not a hunter so it would not be buried in the wilderness with no contact with civilization...but solar power, raising my own fruits and vegetables, etc.

If you are unhappy with what you do - and feel you are working too hard to maintain a lifestyle....maybe you are living the wrong lifestyle.

The more stuff you own - the more stuff you have to take care of. This means everything from dusting too many "objects" to insuring too many vehicles to spending too much time shopping for things you don't really need.

For so long, the measure of success has been big house, expensive car, lots of material goods. That view is changing as more people opt for a simpler existence in exchange for more free time.

yeah good idea, i try to get it. It's not only a good story, also the dialogues of the movie are so witty, one punch line after the other. The author obviously is a smart person. True old school story telling, great sense of humor and most of all: Great alternative life style philosophy - so contrary to the senseless modern big city life

i remember one line from the movie:

Katz: "...how do you know all these things Bryson?"

Bryson: "these things are called books, its like TV for smart people"

besides, i could imagine that 'my deep woods' are in the mountains
and i could do a bit of veggie & fruits farming - yet it would only be
about 30 minutes away from the ocean, so i would go fishing.

This guy (Richard Proenneke) lived alone in the woods. I watched the full documentary on PBS.

While I would like to be in nature, I respect it too much and feel there's already enough human encroachment and the best thing to do is just leave it alone.

Today, in 2016 it would be impossible to live in any US woods without other people bothering you, assuming you built a shelter (cabin) and burned firewood (smoke). You would be on either Gov land or private land (trespassing).

Yes, you would be on private land - your own land. Most people who live off the grid buy a piece of property and build on it. Land is cheaper when the standard utilities and paved roads, etc - aren't available to it.

Actually, I do live deep in the woods. Nearest town is 47 miles, mail drop is 10 miles in a turn around carved into the woods. Fire, police and medical help are non-existant. Traffic on nearest gravel road, maybe one vehicle a day, sometimes.

I have power but it can be limited or unavailable for days on end. Lots of falling trees or storms cause trouble. I have some solar and 2 generators. I heat with wood and winter storms or flooding can strand you for days or weeks. I have sat internet and sat tv which work pretty well.

I hunt and fish but I also have a very well stocked pantry and 2 freezers. I could probably go a year without seeing town but I usually go in once a month.

Bonuses, property tax - aprox $100 a year, mortgage - $0, traffic, obnoxious neighbors and people knocking on your door - 0. I have great neighbors about a mile away and another couple within 5 miles. I really get to see all that nature has to offer. Bears, wolves, coyotes, foxes, deer and moose and occasionally a wild buffalo will wander through.

It isn't an easy lifestyle but it is very rewarding. The air is fresh, the water is clean and I can do whatever I want.

"Nearest town is 47 miles" dang, you're doing it mate.

"traffic, obnoxious neighbors and people knocking on your door - 0" - aaahhh! looking forward
to that. i'm sick of the traffic, getting more deadly by the day - even in the tropics, they are all
racing to get to their offices.

"The air is fresh, the water is clean and I can do whatever I want." good, same here,
