What Junk Content has to do with IM?
Content is the king, but something is rotten in the kingdom of Denmark.
Now, I'm pretty much sure that Shakespear's Hamlet isn't going to mind this slight adjustment for the purpose of this thread. So, we all know who's the king, but have we had time to check what's happening in the content's kingdom? There's a problem and its name is junk content.
A content that has been written in 20 minutes,
consumed and processed in 2 minutes,
and then forgotten in 2 seconds,
can be described as the junk content.
Yet, even as such it has its specific purpose. Usually, to fill in the digital space, so that web pages don't stay empty. A client gets what a client wants. As simple as that.
Now, marketers may ask, what junk content got to do with us? We are safe from harm. We have out copywriter knights to protect us. When a client wants to get some content with no particular concerns about sales or conversion, he or she will order the junk content. Right? However, when a piece of content needs to sell something or convince someone, then a copywriter jumps in and the price becomes one of the least concerns. This is something no junk content can match. This is absolutely true.
Yet, there's a catch. A marketer who doesn't care about the junk content epidemic is just like Nero who was fiddling while Rome was burning. I'm fully aware that copywriters can create "pockets of resistance" with their work. Their results are just like the isolated islands in the endless sea of junk content. This strategy can work for some time, that's for sure. However, in the long run, the audience will begin to treat the quality content as an anomaly rather than a rule. The clients will refuse to pay more for quality pieces of writing. The whole system will collapse. Now, there will some minority reports here and there, but I'm talking about the whole industry.
This was my answer to the question: What junk content has to do with IM? It has anything and everything to do with IM. Marketers will eventually lose their content king. They will have to bow to a new junk content queen.
