I'll start off by saying my favorite charity is St Jude's Research Hospital for children. I give twenty dollars a month out of my S.S. and when the income starts to roll in from my IM . I will be donating 10%.

My favorites are the local pet organizations (especially dog organizations).

I've had this idea rattling around my head for a few years about starting my own "medical fund" dog organization (to help people who's dogs need expensive surgeries, medications, etc). I got the idea after one of my shelter-rescue puppies got parvo -- it was about $600 for the hospitalization. And prior to that my sister's dog had cancer -- they rang up a four figure bill just to find out what was wrong with the dog.

I know there are a few national charities that do this for pets, but I was thinking of starting locally.

    Cheers,
    Becky

I'm fond of Texas Children's Hospital. I've known several children that had cancer, and were able to get free health care from Texas Children's Hospital. They're famous for taking in children that can't afford health care.

      Becky,
That sounds great! In the UK the RSPCA will pay for treatment if you prove you can't afford to pay for major vet care when needed. In fact they may prosecute anyone that lets there pet suffer and haven't contacted them for help (rightly so in my view!).

    Interesting subject.

I give to animal and reforestation efforts. It's about half past time to start putting back into what we have destroyed - and that is about everything on the planet. If we don't start reforestation of the desertificating areas soon, we will have not just been irresponsible, we will have been self exterminating. I'd like to think that we have more intelligence than that. Many areas are stripped now to the point they won't hold wildlife, won't grow vegetation, and those areas are growing at millions of hectacres a year even while the population grows and takes more area to support.

Reforest and save the eco-diversification or all other charities will be a moot point before too long.
