First of all, there's no such thing as 'free' traffic.

    Time, after all, is money.

    Second, marketing requires complete focus.

    You can't half-step it.

Third, expect to fail many times before you finally take off.

Fourth, early success (along with peaking too early) can spoil you and, in many cases, could be the worst thing to happen to your marketing career.

One of the things that grate on me is the "Shiny Object Disorder" people get when first starting out. So many products in the marketing game that promise amazing results but fail on the training side of things.

There isn't enough teachings on FOCUS and MINDSET which is key to anything in life but the problem with marketing is that it sell's it self as a "Get Rich" niche and not as a tool to help create wealth.

My best advice is not to assume that only the latest marketing methods have validity today. There is so much wisdom in classical marketing approaches from 50-100 years ago that remains true today.

Most people I know who have a well-rounded marketing career abide by this principle.

All of the above, and I'd only add that copywriting is a very under-rated skill that can only really be learned by doing, but it'll make everything else you do make more money.

I think it was Jon Morrow who said it, but he claimed that if he had to choose just one technique for getting more traffic, it would be by crafting better headlines. If you google Headline Hacks, he has a pretty good primer for headlines, and anything by John Carlton will stand you in good stead.

    Best of luck!

You only get one shot at life - make it awesome.

Everyone else also gets just one crack at it - help make theirs awesome too... or, politely step out of their way.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

There are no short cuts. There are cuts that will take you longer and waste your money because you thought it would be shorter or easier. Never give up. If it isn't working adjust your method, but don't quit. Slow and steady wins the race. I know I sound like a fortune cookie, but these are hard leaned lessons

I dunno, the one with the guy talking from his mansion, and two attractive, tanned women with breast implants, throwing midgets, (sorry, my apologies, short people) claiming that his Russian, hacker, turned saint, developed this software to help humanity, that claims to make a zillion by lunchtime, might be worth a look?

But to be more serious, someone going into marketing,....that it will take time, money and a lot of effort.

The best advice is focus, focus and focus. Don't be spoiled by early success and remember to differentiate yourself from the competition it's easy to find yourself in the same shoes as your extinct competitors but it's important to remember you provide a valuable service and if you don't you will be out of business! Success comes shortly after failure and it's easy to give up but hard to thrive. I believe if you believe that you can turn a keyboard, monitor and computer into a vast opportunity that very few people get to experience so don't ever take it for granted and remember automation = extermination there is no short cuts do it right and continue to keep things right!
