hi all,

I wanted to know if there is a limit on how much you can contribute to the forum in a given day... for example, if i post 50 posts today (none of which being spam but honestly conversing with people on the forum)... will i get banned?

please advise

HEY, *I* may have done that before, and for the SAME reason! My average over several years was only 6-7 posts a day though! NOPE, you won't be banned by quickly adding content. THAT isn't spamming.

    Hi Justin,

You may get eyed a bit suspiciously if you suddenly make an influx of posts (just ask Steven Wagenheim about his first day here ). So, proceed cautiously.

Secondly -- I bet you can make better use of your bored/hotel time than just flooding a forum with posts. Maybe build a blog? Start an affiliate site? Create your own product? Seek out JV partners and build relationships with them? Write and submit articles? Build networks on social media sites?

    You get my drift.

    Cheers,
    Becky

You might. That depends on how you're perceived by any mods who notice it. The fact that you've been banned once already for actual spamming will make them look at anything like that with a skeptical eye.

Note that posts in this section of the forum don't count, and are usually (if they're not spam or really, really abusive) okay no matter what the number.

You're better off looking through the forum for something you can do to learn and develop new skills, rather than just making this the substitute for a life while you're stuck somewhere.

Let me offer my advice from hard experience.

My first day here, I made 80 posts.

I was almost run out of town on a rail and sentenced to life in front of a
      firing squad.

Don't do it, no matter how altruistic your intentions are.

It will lead to absolutely no good.

I now maybe make about 7 or 8 posts a day on a good day. Some days
I am hardly around at all. I've learned to have a life outside of this forum
and it has helped me immensely.

Take this bit of advice for what it's worth to you.

If you are posting one liners of "thanks, that was great" or "I agree" or similar tripe, and were banned before - walk carefully.

Don't bump old threads - don't make useless comments. If you have a lot of time spend some of it reading and learning!

Yea but I like it when someone stirs things up, and you where stirring with a boat oar that day
One of the more exciting days on the forum here IMO.

You know what I feel bad about though?

One person, I don't remember the screen name, PM'd me and asked me
what I was doing. I guess they'd never seen anybody come in here like
a bull in a China shop before.

Anyway, she then started a thread welcoming me and pointing out that
the posts I had made were actually informative and helpful to those
              whose questions I was answering.

That's what REALLY started the ruckus as everybody and their grandmother
essentially came to the thread to either welcome me or call me the
worst con man since Al Capone.

But I've lost track of who this person was. I don't know if they changed
their screen name (there was that period of time when everybody was
doing it including me [original name swagen]) or if they just stopped
              coming to the forum.

But I never forgot the support that this person gave me.

I don't think I ever really got the chance to thank her.

If anybody remembers who she was, that would be great.

I was wondering the exact same things when I first joined a short while back. I got slightly criticized my first day when I started a pretty good thread and it kind of got a lot of attention. Ever since that first day I have been on and off of the forum posting just a few posts per day. I guess what I am saying here is that there does seem to be a little bit of criticism for posting too many times in the same day.

Daniel, you have to understand the history (which I now do) to understand
why the senior members of this forum are skeptical when somebody comes
in here and starts posting a lot.

I won't go into much detail but let's just say that there have been a few
people who have come here and have ended up causing some real harm.

      I'll leave it at that.

No need to go into any details, but I can understand that when people worry more about their own agendas instead of helping people that things can get out of hand. Most people just don't understand that when you go into things trying to help people, and if you can help people get what they want, then most of the time you end up getting what you want.

Yeah the mods here like to play the role of kings. Anything ticks there buttons,

just yesterday I had all my post erased for no apparent reason I emailed the

help desk and nothing all Thomas said was read the forum rules which I had

read my first week after joining and I had not violated any of the rules but

when I asked them to explain exactly what it was

i did I received no response............Its ok though, ppl tend to go power crazy

when given authority I forgive the mods for
    erasing my progress for no

apparent reason, and I have yet to receive a response.

They say respect the rules and they take advantage of the authority they have.

good going mods way to set the example.

There are 147,000 registered user accounts. At any one time there are from 1500 to 6000 people on this forum. Over the course of a week, there will be 20,000 or more people visit this board.

There are... what? Maybe 30 mods? Most of them having a role in only a single section of the place?

Make the leash too long, and it all goes to hell, real fast.

I understand that Paul, but like I mentioned earlier they have not given me a reason as to why they took all my post away, I'm here setting up a good rep for my self and then the mods try to break me forget that, as you can see I've offered value to some ppl I've been thanked by a few and I have only been here for a little over 2months. Im not here to spam If I was I would not be using my real pic as my avatar like I had it when I joined or put up a profile pic, but its cool though I'm here to stay whether they have a personal issue with me or not. I understand they have to be careful about spamming idiots but I never showed an ounce of spam in me

as for the movie 300 its the best man....I had to put up that avatar.

      They don't have to.

Look at those numbers, and look at the number of people complaining about how the mods are this or that kind of power hungry or whatever. Then assume, correctly, that at least 10 times as many people have threads deleted and think they were wronged.

How much moderating would get done if the small group who handle the forum as a whole tried to explain every decision. It's functionally impossible to do both, so the explanations go over the cliff.

Not to mention that the majority of the people asking for explanations would continue to argue, as you are right now, about their positions. It's a losing game, and it would be stupid for the mods to play it.

Yeah I know man, I have to suck it up, I'm just really pissed at the fact that all the posting I did is all gone. Time is money, time is very valuable.
Im not giving up though. Mods should be more careful about what they delete. Were imperfect So im sure a few posts or threads will be deleted by mistake.

I think 80 posts per day is fine if you articulate your posts, add something useful each time and give an added value to each discussion you enter in to.

If you leave one line, "hit and run" posts like "thanks for the info" and "great post" then you ought to be given a barbwire enema and a naga jolokia chili pepper in your eyeball.

    It's a fine line...

I think it is more a matter of quality. If the quality of each individual post has merit on it's on then I do not see the harm in posting 50 times. If every post is just rubbish though it might be a concern.
