If you could go back in time and change one thing what would it be?

Let's say that you are given one opportunity to go back in time. You only get one trip. However, you are able to go back and change one event that happened to you in your life, what would it be? Why?

    Wow - fun question Jason.

I can think of 3 things that I could have made better judgements about but if I have to choose one (since I wouldn't tell the other two anyway) it would be about college.

When I was in school I talked to an advisor about computer classes. I was told not to bother - I'd never need them, they were just another office machine my secretaries would use. If I could go back, I'd have taken those courses. And if I knew about my future without those courses when I went back - I'd have smacked that advisor in the face with a pie to boot. I think he should be one mistake University of Michigan should hope to go back and fix.

Computers are one thing the media and reporters NEVER seemed to get right! SOME made it out to be a magical box that can do ANYTHING, and some made it out to be a one hit wonder.

I wouldn't change anything. It would create a paradox.

Exactly. Change one thing and you would never have existed, which means you couldn't make the change.

However if I could, I would have convinced Henry Ford to make his new fangled Model T's run on something other than oil.

No propping up of evil regimes in oil rich lands, no (or less at least) terrorists, less pollution, no need to worry about Peak Oil, etc., etc..

      A better world all round.

Why WWII? Why not WWI? And WWI MAY have played a part in WWII! Then again, have you seen "The Mark of Gideon"?

Mmmm... if you never asked the question, where would I have got the idea to go back and shoot you?

Another thought: if you invented a time machine, would you go back and show your younger self how to build one?

You couldn't go back to shoot him because you DID go back to shoot him. Having done that, he never gave you the idea, so you never shot him. OH WELL!

Maybe if you back to shoot him, you go to another dimenson where you WOULD have shot him ANYWAY! Having shot him, he is still alive where you were!

I would go back and change my mind

    ***

No, that didn't help a thing.

Maybe if I change my mind before going back?

Gee, I seem to be going around in circles. Am I just another peripatetic time traveler?

How about if I leave myself a list of what I'm going to change my mind about?

    No. That didn't help either.
