    Steven,

Great song. Here's another one I found. Old school:

This song is a great example of why I prefer blues to pop rock. BB is not only a better guitar player than the Edge, he's a better singer than Bono. BB's voice is so much stronger than Bono's, it makes it sound like Bono is singing with one lung, and that one has a hole in it.

    Trivia:

    What does B.B. stand for?

And (I asked this on another thread, but didn't get an answer, so I'll post it here)...Why did BB name his guitar Lucille?

Kurt, there's a reason BB King sounds like he does.

Take a look at the man.

My mother, God rest her soul, who was an opera singer and a vocal
coach explained to me that with a body that size, you're going to get
a big sound out of it. All you need to do is train the voice properly and
it can be an amazing sound. BB still doesn't have the pipes of an opera
singer only because he's never been properly trained. If he was, he'd
probably shatter the plaster in your home.

Bono, on the other hand, is a stick. Even with proper training, you're only
going to get so much out of it, though WITH proper training, he would
sing a hell of a lot better than he does now.

Bottom line...some people are born with big voices.

BB King is one of those people.

        Steven,

Which is exactly why I prefer to listen to BB King....He was born with a big voice. Bono was born with a wimpy voice.

But it isn't just "bigger", he also has much more inflection.

(Not to mention, BB also plays the guitar)

Shoot Kurt I just thought the Lucille question was to easy
It's the name of the girl the two guys where fighting over when the knocked the kero drum over and burned the club down.
He's named every one of his guitars Lucille to remind him not to fight over women or run into burning buildings.

Rileys stage name of B.B. is the short version of Beale street blues boy.

Out of the hundreds of concerts I've been to all of Kings shows are at the top of my list of the best.

I originally posted this in Killer Joe's blues thread. I'm reposting it here because this is how I remember Mr. King. The song is Sweet Sixteen and he is performing it in Africa in October 1974 at the time of the Ali/Foreman fight. At the end you will see Ali jump out of his seat.

I remember him this way because, on the other side of the world, just a couple of months later, I saw him in Victoria, B.C. The opening act was Journey, they had just released Kahoutek and didn't use a singer at that time. After their set Mr. King came on stage and said "Man they really swing" and proceeded to blow us all away.

Nice Touch Steven Wags - We are celebrating somebody famous' birthday instead of, well, the other one - the one after the fact...

My computer is eating all my birthday cake pictures. I must have had 5 of them and I save them to favorites/bookmarks both FF and Chrome - and every time I try to find one they are never there - the only one he left me was the youtube beatles happy bday song.

I had a beautiful white red and blue cake, a couple chocolate cakes - i do not always have time to go and search all over the place for birthday cakes -

as i can smell chocolate just by thinking/telling you about these - i guess i love those cake pictures more than anybody else.

sorry bb no cake 4 u or me 2day.
    happy bday anyway.

Lahr, I really enjoyed listening to that one... even posted it on my
website with your little blurb and proper credid of course!

      Hope that's OK with you...

Patricia, I wonder what's happening to your pictures?

You're right, it's great to be celebrating BB' birthday when he's
      still around...

Thank you Steve Wagg for starting this thread it was kind of
nostalgic but fun listening to all that great music!
