Nothing wrong with that. (Your video at least.- I haven't watched the others.) Why?

Sometimes we mess up and need to start again. Anyone who speaks and/or sings to thousands and thousands of people (live) have my respect.

Adele is the only reason I recorded that awards show - fast forwarded through pretty much all of it except her, Bruno Mars and one other act (forget what it was). She was honest enough to admit she was off on the wrong key - and stole the show.

I watched enough of the talk to shake my head at the arrogance of "stars" who think their entertainment stage is the place for political rants. Beyonce's performance was so theatrical and pretentious - including the speech she gave - I was bored in 30 seconds so fast forwarded. It's a shame as she has a great voice and she's gorgeous but the preggers drama was a bit much.

I don't usually watch award shows but the 15 minutes or so I watched felt overly staged. Maybe that's normal.

When actors and singers give political speeches on awards shows, I have to ask myself why they do it.

Are they thinking that people will see them as more socially aware? Are they afraid to disappoint their fans? Are they really that politically involved?

Then I think about their audience. Movie goers/music fans aren't all liberals. It would seem that these speeches would hurt ticket sales. But maybe the actors/singers know their core audiences more than we do, and are pandering to them, solidifying their base.

And maybe it's to get more air time (on cable news shows, reporting on the awards show).

I didn't watch the show, I assume the political speeches were all with a liberal bent.

I wonder if they are conservative or liberal speeches on a country western music awards show?

Has to be an inflated sense of their own importance, and these hyped-up award ceremonies can only serve to reinforce that.

In mitigation, when you have millions of raving followers and a media that hangs on your every utterance however banal, it must be difficult to keep a sense of proportion.

Nothing inflated about it. Millions of people place that importance on them. Literally hundreds of millions with Adele.

They are just there to accept it.

The fact is they have a HUGE platform that neither me nor you has. And we will never have !! So someone like her takes advantage of it.

          Nothing wrong with that.

Not always but many time it becomes "inflated importance" when regular people do not agree or on the other side of the celebrity's view point or political stance

No. That's called an appeal to authority. When someone is celebrated or has expertise in one field, there is a tendency to attach undue significance to their opinions concerning other, non related matters in which they probably have no more credibility or authority than the rest of the population.

Celebrities who use their stardom to broadcast views on matters entirely unrelated to their profession or occupation are taking advantage of this logical fallacy. If they further presume that the public wish to hear these views even on occasions when nobody has invited their opinions - e.g. at an awards ceremony - they are displaying an inflated sense of their own importance.

That's why The Whattys are the only awards show with any credibility. Speeches, whether political or not, are banned. Collect your award, siddown, shaddup.

The only thing that can't be controlled is lunatic dwarves who start wandering around with their helmet in their hands chanting incomprehensible gibberish about Amazons.

For next year's Whattys the organisers are adopting a zero tolerance approach to uppity dwarves. There will be a team of elven warriors as security guards in case another dwarf, or even the same one, goes loco and disturbs proceedings.

Yeah, it was bad. Even when she restarted, she was off-key for parts of it.
I guess that's what they consider to be a "professional performance" today.

Don't think a rehearsal would help much, as she's pretty limited talent-wise.

Maybe she could partner with Mariah Carey and together they could complete a song.

I doubt even auto-tune, could save that "performance".

I just watched it for the first time too. Yes, it was a train wreck - but to be fair, after she restarted the result was pretty impressive. There's no doubting she has a great voice.

I was going to offer my opinion on this...and then it hit me that I know nothing about music or musicians. So, I would be 'appealing to authority".

And then I realized that my ego is bigger than any lack of knowledge I possess...so I'm going to assume everyone wants to hear what I think on the subject.

Adele is an Angel, and when she was crying...I knew it was because of me.

The most emotional song I've seen performed for a long time was by Kelly Clarkson who broke down near the end of the song...I was crying with her because the song was so "connected".

I admire both Clarkson and Adele - great talents who aren't trying to look like or be like anyone else. Both of them are all about the music.

To be clear - Adele did not make a political statement - the ones who did aren't up to her level of talent. The cameras showed the audience and a few eye rolls at the comments....
