Hi,

I'm trying to get a demographic on what systems are more popular with internet marketers.

I know many writers gravitate towards mac but curious what the ration is here of Windows to Mac.

And do windows users have office or open office?

Thanks

To figure out what to focus on. It takes a lot of effort to get all of the compatibilities for desktop software.

OK that's fair enough. It's just there are a ton of threads started by people here who ask questions like that for no apparent reason. You have a decent reason though. Carry on. as you were.

True, just another excuse for an Apple/PC catfight, (Apple are glued together and hideously expensive, and PC have spyware, 1984, OS).

I agree. Macs are far superior. :-)

I don't have an issue with the question in the OP and think it's a legit marketing concern. My problem is with the methodology and doubt the responses posted here will give a good idea of the ratio with any reasonable accuracy.

    Hi jessegilbert,

This is a legit marketing question, regardless of your motives for asking it.

It might surprise some people to learn that Windows is no longer the dominant OS for web browsers on a Worldwide basis.

And if you thought Mac is the new king, you'd be way way off.

The new king of OS's is neither Mac, nor Windows. It is Android.

The Android platform has recently eclipse Windows users, iOS is a distant 3rd place with Mac OS-X in decline at barely 5% market share. The iOS has been growing, but not nearly at the pace of Android, which recently eclipsed Windows users in worldwide use.

While Windows is still The dominant OS platform for the U.S. market, it is in decline and looks like it will eventually be eclipsed by iOS within the next few years and Android users close behind. Mac OS-X use seems to be remaining relatively flat at about 11% market share in the U.S.

    [

It's not surprising to see a lot of writers and graphic artists using Mac because that has been their perennial primary target market for all of Mac's existence. While business markets have been the primary target market for Windows. The current market shares reflect those marketing priorities.

Thanks for the charts and info.

Actually Don I think there could be some strong new contenders coming up in the next 3 to 4 yrs.

The android statistic is very telling...

What most people don't know is that there is a new system on the horizon that involves projected screens.

It may not happen overnight but there will be more factors to consider...

I think the trend is clearly towards more portable, more mobile and the new systems will have the combo of being tiny while projecting large interactive style screens.

The absolute truth. More IM software that comes out is for Windows and will not work on the Mac natively, you need a Windows emulator and then Windows.

Once installed though, it's operation and performance will be no different.

There is a more diverse range of software for the PC too.

So, if you like the look of the Mac and it's own software then buy one, but be prepared to get a windows emulator and copy of Windows to be able to use all IM software.

I have never encountered anything that I wanted or needed to do on my Mac where employing an emulator was required. I'd sooner drink Drano that run Windoze on my machine.

I must not be much of an IM'er. :-)

      Thank you.

My numbers are old, but there was a time when Mac made up 5% of the PC market. However, Mac owners were twice as likely to purchase software than WIN owners.

You would also need to factor in the competition, where it's likely WIN has a lot more competitors.

This is what I've heard - That MAC users are more swipe-happy with the card...I will hopefully find that to be true in a few weeks if and when I get my Mac version ready.

If people are willing to pay $10k for a workstation, you'd be better off buying $10k worth of Apple shares.

Did that, long ago. My Apple shares having been paying for almost everything I have purchased in the past 10 years. They support my lifestyle en toto.

My last purchase of stock in December has guaranteed that I'm going to run out of 'me' - long before I run out of money. It is on fire and headed for $190 per share before the year is out. I don't follow it that closely, but that should be close to a 100% appreciation in just over a year. And I certainly do appreciate it. :-)

It's still the only stock I ever have or ever would own. Normally I would say that stocks are a huge gamble, but if this went to zero, tomorrow - I'd still come out ahead of the game. Way ahead. I'm actually thinking about buying a boat and I hated owning my last boat. lol

Probably the only really smart thing I have ever done in my entire life.

              Thank you.

I find it hard to get emotional about computers - I use Window because that's what I started with and several computers later I still use it.

I have friends who swear by macs and friends who are loyal to windows...I just have a drink and listen to them argue the details.

Yeah I usually have favorite computers and browsers but give it 7 days on a new system and it is easy to switch.

But it is a Smart phone OS!

I am not going to do graphic work on one of those silly things!

From what l have heard, (for Laptops) is that Linux is getting a foothold, since people are getting sick of Windows, 1984, ugly stick type OS.

I would rather stay with w7Pro, until it is uninstallable.
