This guy was caught last night by a trail cam, just miles from my house.

Looks hungry to me. :-(

Thank you.

beautiful creature - if he's on 'a trail' he must in 'in the wood' - which is where he should be living. Part of the food chain - but I'd keep my cats inside at all times and my dogs in unless I was out with them.

Must be really hard for some wild creatures to find food when we've taken over so much of the land and civilized it with parking lots and housing developments...and garbage dumps....

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Yes - he is in the Jersey Pine Barrens, Being in the heart of that is like going back 200 years in time.

Uh, they'd just as readily eat a small child. I'm sure our local hunters will use that as reason to hunt it down and kill it. Proudly and gleefully, I might add. Living here is like living in southern Alabama. Last year some local hunters cut down a tree that had a Bald Eagle nest with chicks because U.S. Fish and Wildlife declared the are out of bounds for hunting. That did NOT make them happy, so in the middle of the night they cut the tree down. No eagles - no hunting restrictions. Fixed that problem, easy-peasy!

Every spring I stop along the local road to help turtles get across. I'm good for twenty or so over a couple of months time span. This year, one very large Eastern Painted which, until I picked it up, I did not know that it had already been hit. Had a large chunk of its shell caved in, but it was still trying to get across the road. I didn't think of it until later, but I should have taken it to an animal hospital.

Around here, running over turtles is considered 'sport.'

I hate humans. Always have and always will. Most have no respect for the world around them, or worse, they are completely apathetic and don't understand what the 'big deal' with preserving nature is all about.

      Sad!!!

      Thank you.

I grew up on the side of a mountain in Northern Wyoming. We had big cats like this all over the place.

The 1st time I went to a big city I asked where all the trees were. And, how do you people stand this smell?

I understand your points big time.

I'm a vegan now and have been for some time. I don't preach it to others, but I can't stand what we've done to our world.

I agree about the hating of humans - and the cruelty is so stupid. Can't imagine what the 'payoff' is when you are inflicting pain or taking a life.

We have bald eagles in a nearby state park. Everyone is excited when we spot them - they are like "community pets". If someone harmed them I think people here would hunt them down.

Being in the heart of that is like going back 200 years in time.
I love places like that - now if we could just prohibit humans from entering those places with a weapon...

I don't see many 'travelin' turtles' here. On the MS coast there were turtle crossings frequently in the spring - and almost everyone would stop the car to wait, carefully drive around them or get out and put the turtle on the other side of the road. It was common down there to see a police car stopping traffic while the officer helped a turtle navigate across the road.

Probably. You can always hit the ignore button. Or you can ask us all to live by your personal moral precepts. Guess which one will suit your needs better?

        Thank you.

He? I thought all cougars were female. At least they are in those mail order videos I get sent from Wooster.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

I read a news story of a cyclist getting attacked by cougar in California. Went right for the throat.

People want to get close to nature but nature bites.

Like most things in life, if you're going to do it, do it right the first time. We can learn a great deal from the eating habits of many animals.

Hell, whenever I attack someone I immediately go for the jugular.

      Thank you.

One of my all time favorite chuckle worthy news stories was:

People north of Atlanta bought high priced homes in a new 'lake development' - very expensive homes built in the middle of dense woods that bordered a popular lake.

Then they complained there were red foxes and "other wild animals" in the woods that posed a danger to their children and pets....and they wanted the wildlife service to 'get rid of' the wild animals.

The official answer was 'deal with it'.... They were also warned of what would happen should they decide to indiscriminately kill wildlife in the woods....

Yes, we get the same crap here, people are forced, due to real estate going through the roof, to move further away from the city or rural, country areas.

Then after purchasing their tini, two story apartment looking over the neighbours paddock, they complain about the mooing, and manure smell, and other farming practices.

I have checked out these places, and lived on a farm for most of my life, and find it ironic that some move into the country, and quickly put up with city peak hour, since the roads typically cannot handle that, or there are limited other options.

And have a family next door, pretty much killing any serinity that a country lifestyle entails.

Maybe I'm weird, but I think a vegetable field, covered in manure is one of the best aromas on the planet. I've had it bring tears to my eyes - and it wasn't because of the manure. I think I missed my calling in life. :-(

    Thank you.
