FYI

Google has been fined €2.4billion for abusing it's position and giving prominence to it's own shopping site in SERPS results.

Read all about it here:

    . . . and?

(Just wondering why you are posting a news story that's all over the Internet here in the discussion forum - is there something you want to say about it that we should discuss?)

The Commission said that Google acted illegally by giving priority placement in search results to its own shopping service, while relegating results from rivals to areas where potential buyers were much less likely to click.
Apparently the EU 'investigated' for 7 years....wonder how much was spent on that...

Google gives priority placement on the GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE to GOOGLE'S shopping service....rather than featuring results from rivals on prominent areas of GOOGLE'S SEARCH ENGINE.

The EU is "also investigating" Android restrictions, mobile network operators and Adsense placement.

Google will fight this for years - has the money to pay it from cash reserves. Question: Will Google outlast the EU?

I have a lot more use for Microsoft and Google and their products than I do for the EU.

Can you imagine the outrage if Google and Microsoft decided to be available only to those in non-EU countries? j/k

There is possibility that google will give a tough fight to EU. It would be interesting to see how google tackles this situation.

    Cruze.

    This is so goofy.

Show me a single business that doesn't try and promote their business on their own website.

Google should tell EU to STFU and spend $2 billion burying them in paperwork for the next 30 years.

The way things are going in Europe these days, Google could probably buy the whole EU for $2 billion.

It's not good at all. Why shouldn't they be allowed to feature their own service on their own domain if they want to?

It's like Ebay complaining because Amazon won't feature their listings on Amazon.com.

About time this happened Google is as corrupt as any corporation.

A new search engine is needed.

Google domination needs to be stopped. I mean it's only a search engine with an algorithm that spiders websites. Python coders step up!!

So the Paqe #1 rank in your sig is not google?

Reminds me of the lawsuit against Microsoft when they were being sued for not putting their competitor's software in Windows 98 I think it was. The Microsoft lawyers replied something like... "What you are asking us to do is like asking Coke to put 2 Pepsi's in every six pack."

There are many smart fantastic people that live in the EU but this governing body is not living in the real world.

I am not a great fan of Google but they can show whatever they want in their search engine. Whenever I have an important purchase to make I never go to Google first. I go to Consumer Reports, Consumer Search, varioius retailers, consumer reviews, legit review sites, etc., etc....

I try to rank on Google but I always get better search results on Bing. When I do go to Google and Bing I know there will be some bias and manipulation and I take that into consideration. I can also always go to page 2 and on...

I think most people understand that Google search is just a small part of doing your due dilligence and it can sometimes be wildly inaccurate and even misleading.

The EU has done the right thing. The fact is there are rules and regulations businesses have to abide by. Google are breaking them and so a fine is correct. And not just a fine but they'll have to change what they're doing.

For anybody that actually wants to inform themselves to why G have been given the fine and what they've been doing then you might want to read this.
