What is your internet speed and what is the fastest available internet connections in the world?

I would like to know what kind of internet speed people get from their service provider.
I am based in South Africa and have a 4mbit DSL line.
This is the fastest DSL connection we have here.
I have heard of 1Gbit connections a couple of years back in Hong Kong.
Can anyone confirm that connection speeds like this or faster actually exists and what it is like to use it and the costs involved for having a line like this.
