The operative word there is "trying." If you're honestly angry, well, you should be. If the world around you doesn't piss you off, you cannot possibly be paying attention.
Funny - I was just explaining to someone why I love punk. I said because it is really ANGRY and I am ANGRY.

She said, well that is the problem, I am a positive person; is that too 'pollyanna'.

I said - that is the point - we need to get ANGRY and we need to EXPRESS THAT ANGER AND GET IT OVER WITH.

People bury their head in the sand in denial. They read their morning paper "child raped", "family murdered", "30 GI's killed in Iraq', '200000 jobs eliminated', please pass the cornflakes. WTF!???

That is sick - I have FEELINGS - I am feeling very angry yet I can't go around 'kicking out the jams' - listening to some good head banging punk rock let's me FEEL the A-N-G-E-R.

The bottom line - nothing changed but I can get past my emotions ONLY BY EXPRESSING THEM - maybe vicariously - but I do feel better after I hear a demonstration of ANGER and DISCORD.

Used to be an expression - "Get it Off"!

... yes, get it off!

I say punk started in the late 1800's, when blues was first begining...Here's the 30's version of the song by Leadbelly. I posted both versions together before, but check them out...Kurt Cobain made few changes. This song was way before its time, and one of the most chilling songs ever written.

I remember my grandmother telling me in the early 60's (I was 6 or 7 and discovering "stuff" in one of my Uncles old bedroom and had found an old 78 record and wanted to hear it) "Give me that and let me put that in the trash where it belongs...those kids are nothing but PUNKS and I don't want you to get all caught up in that garbage!

Found out later it was THIS...

Frank - I saw on the Eddie and the Hot rods - that there was a song, "96 tears" is that the same one as Question Mark and the Mysterians did? Not sure how obscure they are, but I only remember that one hit from them. It was a good one.

Sal, yeah; it's the same song. It's been covered by several artists, but the original's still got it, IMO.

However, this version by a band already mentioned upthread, comes pretty close:
