Hey guys,
I've asked around, and the general consensus is this: People subscribe to anywhere between tens and hundreds of internet marketing email lists When asked how many they felt are "worthwhile", the answer was always under 10...often under 5. lol My question is... why on Earth do you not unsubscribe? Is it because... 1.You are fooled by the way they bump down the “unsubscribe link” with spaces and dashes? Lol 2.You are willing to be bombarded with lackluster info so you can pick up on copywriting tips? 3.You feel like you might miss that ONE time that these jokers actually offer something of value? 4.You are used to hitting the bulk delete option daily which you feel saves you time because it's faster than it would be to go through every email and the unsubscribe process? Number 4 is what it was for me, but recently, I have unsubscribed to every single one...and I feel so liberated! And guess what!? I don't think I missed out on anything ground breaking yet. Even if you love a few particular marketers, you probably subscribe to their blog, follow them on Twitter and Facebook, and follow every launch they do, so why let 'em have your email too if they're not giving you anything of value? Warriors! Unsubscribe. Take your email back, Trust me...it feeeels goooood! I'm seriously asking though. Maybe there's a good reason that I'm missing. But personally, I get nothing of value from 99% of the IM email lists...especially compared to what I do get from forums, articles and conversations with marketers directly. And the inconvenience really started to get to me. Lol I still subscribe to people who provide PLR, themes, and other tools I use to make money, but the others are gone. </end rant> So, how many do you subscribe to? How many are worthwhile? Maybe I missed some valuable ones, let me know who you think are worth following and why! Cheers Jay |

I subscribe to one or two on my main email. On my other email, created specifically for this, I've subscribed to any and all I found semi-appealing. If they ever do come out with something interesting, I'll probably hear about it out-of-email, so I can use the search function in the email I toss around but not have to deal with all of it daily when checking my main email.

I never gave up my email.
ALL lists I subscribe to go to one email address. I check it once in a while. Most of them I subscribed to for something they were offering - either free or paid. I do look at subject lines for ideas. But I think BECAUSE I send them all to a different email than my main one I forget I am even subscribed... LOL. So, it's no issue for me to keep getting them. Oh, and I would argue that the jokers are... US! Not them. They created the list, but it's US who subscribe and then don't unsubscribe...

This is why I have FOUR e-mail accounts: Two with Yahoo (one of which I use as my "spam-catcher" and also use to communicate with family), one with Hotmail, and one with Gmail.
Also, I wonder if they don't sell their "unsubscribed" lists to other Spammers. |

"Laziness", in my case, I think.
I'm on 4 or 5 at the moment, and don't open or read any of them regularly. What tends to happen is that I wait until they irritate me (for whatever unreliable reason usually having little to do with them) and then have a quick look through and unsubscribe from all or almost all of them. They're normally things I've originally subscribed to in order to be sent some sort of freebie. I've never had a problem unsubscribing, I must say. (I think every list I join seems to be either Aweber or GetResponse.) Meanwhile, I've managed somehow to unsubscribe from Steven Wagenheim's, which I really must contrive to rejoin, if he'll have me back ...

I'm just genuinely curious why so many people think they're crap but stay subscribed. I used a separate email for mine as well (I think that's common practice), but still found it too much of a hassle to bother with anymore. I've recently condensed everything in my business, and the little things are making a big difference for me...so I started to wonder what other people thought about their IM "subscriptions". I guess if you only skim through the dedicated email once a week or something it's not so bad...but if you're actually reading though a couple hundred emails every week and get nothing of value, it doesn't make sense. You could be using that time to rant on WF! lol Cheers Jay | |

It sure isn't the dashes....you're not fooling me guru!
I think it's a bit of #4 where it "seems" quicker to mass delete, but we all know it' snot true cause the poo keeps a flowin' and not unsubscribing just means we agree to swim against the current! Ewwww.... |

I subscribe to several email lists for competitive intelligence. I like to see how often they send emails, what they say in their emails, how often they pitch products vs. giving valuable information, what are they pitching, do they really know their stuff, what other people do they JV with, etc. etc.
It also helps me separate myself from them because I take the best practices of these lists and employ them with my own list (and leave all the crap out). My biggest pet peeve, however, is when these jokers use the, "Oops, I screwed up the link in my last email," trick. That makes me so angry that I almost immediately delete myself from their list. Seriously...do IMer's really think that trick works??? Travis |
