I'm a fussy person when choosing technology but the Iphone seems to be winning everyones hearts so I need reasons why I shouldn't buy it so I will actually take the time to look at other options.

I'm a technology geek. I love new toys.

The reason I did NOT get it is because I have 5 phones on my current plan with a different carrier, and AT&T reception where I live is dicey at best.

I just got the Palm Pre. I like it a lot. While it's NOT the Iphone, it has some nice features - and a Qwerty keypad (which I personally like).

Not NEAR as many apps - and will NEVER have that kind of App library - but over time I am sure it will have a very nice selection.

My big reason: the iPhone drops calls. Frequently.

It may be different overseas, but here in the Pacific Northwest, it dumps calls all the time. I've had a lot of people say that's not the phone, it's the network, but come on... I've got an HTC Fuze on AT&T, and it's rock-solid over the G3 network. The iPhone? Not so much.

When I tell iPhone owners about this concern, they invariably say "oh yeah?!" and show me the koi pond application.

Wow. you can poke fake 3-D fish on your phone. That's nice, but still, IT'S A PHONE! I want to make reliable calls!

If your anything like me, you have already done tons of research...I just got a new Blackberry Bold 9000, I thought I wanted an Iphone...I had a BB pearl before I upgraded. Several pros to the Iphone..its cool cool and did I mention its cool? BUT several irriatating things, requires a contract with apple as well as AT&T and no insurance available, $499 to replace it, tons of apps, few for free that are worth anything, so add 100 apps a $4.00 or more and now you have a $600.00 phone...really cool? NOT. Novelty of the touch screen wears off pretty fast too. The BB Bold 900 is $199.99 after rebate and offers many feature and many free apps and some you can buy as well. There is a downside to BB..you have to buy a memory card, the memory is small so more expense. But insurance is available for $5.95 a month with a $125.00 deductible.

So, I asked one of the guys at the att office who had a Iphone if he liked his choice...no was the answer, $50 a month instead of $30 for rhe Iphone internet service, he had to replace his once already for $499 and now he still has a year left on his Apple contract...It is cool...no doubt I wanted it in the worst way, but I just could not bring myself to go that route and have 2 contracts no ins. and pay for all the cool apps I wanted....

    Hope this helped...Go BB

MAN, a LOT of people beat me too it! To buy a cell phone, or a plan, you have to FORGET about the phone and the plan!!!!!!!! FORGET the sales pitch!

Use the specs ONLY to narrow down the choice, and ASK, ASK, ASK!!!!!!! NOT the company! NOT the salesperson! Ask FRIENDS and strangers that have NO interest!
AGAIN, you DON'T care about the PHONE! DON'T CARE about the PLAN! Those are ONLY to narrow choices. You need info about the phone AND the plan TOGETHER!

I BELIEVE iphone is a special case in that you can ONLY use it with the AT&T plan.

I asked people how THEY liked the iPhone, and they loved it, BUT...... I got my first cell phone with PACBELL, now part of AT&T. I DROPPED it because THEY LIED about coverage! I got my SECOND cell phone with AT&T, now part of AT&T. I DROPPED it because THEY LIED! They claimed to not know that a person did NOT care about the plan OR the phone, but the ability to COMMUNICATE! In TWO STATES they apparently DROPPED COVERAGE, so I dropped THEM! They CLAIMED it was the type of phone(advertised, sold, and "supported" by THEM). The phone WORKED in california, and a couple other sttaes though, and the NEW phone they sent had the SAME problems.

BTW ODDLY, people that I KNOW that have the iphone have ANOTHER phone as well! SUSPICIOUS!

So is the iphone good? YEP! Is the PLAN good? Probably NOT! Would I get the iPhone!?!? NOPE!

BTW! PALM makes NICE phones, but they are somewhat stagnent, and LOSING MARKET SHARE! BB is apparently the biggest and likely most viable major player.

I love my HTC G1 Google phone for it's keyboard. Not as slick as iphone but I can't stand using a touch screen as a keyboard.

Same here, I love this phone. I tried the iPhone for a while and it just wasn't for me, I can do everything on the G1 probably 10 times faster which is good for me because I bring it with me to auctions and need the value of an item before I make a bid so the speed and effeciency is good. Not to mention, everything is cheaper. I wasn't too impressed with AT&T in my area.

My brother's iphone stopped working within a month. He had to send it off for a week. Now they're saying it's water damaged even though my brother has never had it near water. However o2 suggest it may of got wet via condensation from my brothers pocket and want £150 ($250) to fix it! My brother is speaking to his local trading standards office.

Some condensation is BOUND to happen if it is not sealed properly. Although his pocket may have more humidity, the temperature is such that it is LESS likely to create condensation. In any effect, such condensation shouldn't create such a problem, and it is a manufacturing defect or design flaw! THEY are responsible. "Fixing" it may be no good, since the same thing may happen all over again!

If they don't settle, tell them to settle or you will contact the Public Utilities Commission(They have control of towers, phone resources, and phone companies, etc...), the FTC(They have control of bad trade practices like this), and the Attorneys General(They may file a case if enough people complain.) If they STILL don't comply, contact those people, maybe the fcc(licensing of things like cell phones), and maybe IF YOU REALLY WANT THE MONEY BACK, your bank! If you do that last one, it MIGHT hurt your credit though.

Hated them until I used one for a few weeks. They take adjustment, but honestly, they're just a little different - not inferior. I now frequently use the on-screen keyboard on my HTC, even though it's got the slide-out physical keyboard.

So I know where you're coming from on that, but I don't think it's an accurate criticism. Apple is very good at usability, and I'm pretty sure they've got one of the best onscreen keyboards in the industry.
