Hi all,

I have a .jpg file that is a combination of text and graphics.

Does anyone know of a technique that can be used to extract and then copy and paste text from this .jpg file - the text inside the .jpg needs to be editable, I assume.

If you know of a technique then do you know of any software (preferably free) that can be utilized to perform this operation.

Cheers for now.

Garry.

    Garry,

You can do this in GIMP if the background isn't too complicated. GIMP is free to download and is a very powerful program.

If you want you can PM me the image and I'll take a look at it and tell you if it will be easy or hard.

(You can look at the link in my sig if you want to see things you can do in GIMP. That site is just my playground so you can't buy anything or opt-in. It's just for looking )

It would also depend on what you are pasting that text to - another image or do you want the text to go into another text document? I'm not sure that you can do that but can check it out if Garry says Gimp won't work for you. I know you can cut it and paste it into another image - two steps if the backgrounds match - three and some serious cussing if they don't.

I mostly use Paint.net - it's fast and simple to learn. The GIMP is
more powerful but the learning curve is significant.

I'm not quite sure what you want to do - and I cannot guarantee
you won't lose some hair learning how to do it, no matter what
software you use - but Paint.net will do most anything until you
    get real sophisticated.

    So, I second RussDave's recommendation.

You can't take a picture of words as a flat .JPG file and
edit the text. What you CAN do is add a layer on top
of the text area and put your own text in there.

If you want to extract the actual words from a .JPG
to use in some document, you're better off copying them
by typing them into your notepad than trying to learn
how to do it with software, imo.

Yes,...we can read,... no problems at all in that department.

Given the recent date of the post (i.e. its only a couple of days old...not weeks or months) and the absence of the post being declared closed or seeing a confirmation such as the one you've now offered, how would we have any clear idea as to when or whether it was solved or not?

Just being good fellow Warriors making a contribution that who knows who could find to be of benefit down the track!

Ok... amended entry required,.. I thought that this was a November posting but its October. Coming from Australia we write our dates a DD/MM not MM/DD so that's what threw me.

Having said that, somebody still may find the paint.net reference handy.

          Cheers Killer Joe

No offence but the post is 32 days old not a couple.
With that said I'm glad you found it and replied.
Your post reminded me of paint and also a small project I have that I forgot about, so thank you.
